  • hey at 2:56 the case with the orange green corner it can be solved without a cube rotation. you prob no it by now but you can do F,R',F',R and it's solved. i just started cubing but i saw that alg in another vid

  • i'm not very good at "F2L" but i'm just happy i'm not the only one who puts there watch on there right hand :)

  • I came up with the idea of using double layer turns (d / d') as a method of bypassing having to rotate the cube.

For example, at 4:16 , you could have solved the orange-blue pair by doing [d L U' L'] instead of that finger-trick I really dislike! :P

  • hand cruncher for warm up >:D

  • you put watch on right hand :-D

  • @tomkingslayer same here!

  • He's got a TV for a computer monitor.

  • Can't we use any B or F moves?

  • I dropped from averaging 55 seconds beginner to 45 seconds using only f2l and tips i know i could start using oll and pll but i need to improve cross i need a good advanced cross tutorail

  • @badmephisto what type is your cube anyway?

  • I'm always amazed at how smooth your cubes are.

I can't really afford such cube since they can't be bought in my country, but still, amazing cubes, and not to forget, amazing videos, keep it up.

  • would it be better to rotate or do little d turns to substitute rotations?

  • i bought his app

  • You can flip the edge if u allow d turns

  • is there a way to move the back layer without rotating???

  • @tsj5ka no

  • @tsj5ka yeah there is, use your pointer or ring finger

  • @D4rkFang but its not recommended on f2l its so slow

  • @betbetsukbet ohh right yeah I rotate now

  • Whats a cube rotation?

  • @TheStreetNinja99 cube rotation means that you have to turn the cube, to look it from another angle

  • @youngstunner96 f2l stands for first to layers youtube it

  • wow .thanks a lot man, I really became much faster in solving rubiks cube than in the past!!!

  • I love you (not in a gay way)

  • Whats F2L ?

  • @youngstunner96 F2L is the second step of the "Fridrich method" solving the cube, google it up

  • I can honestly say that even though I have outgrown several of your videos, this one is the most new stuff, and right now I'm pushing against the wall of sub20.

  • at 3:30 there is an algorithm :

    U, R, U′, R′, U′, F′, U, F, U', R, U′, R′, U′, F′, U, F if your pair is on the right (You just repeat an algorithm with an U' between it.

    and :

    U′, L′, U, L, U, F, U′, F′, U, L′, U, L, U, F, U′, F′ if your pair is on the left (the same thing but this time you add an U between the algorithm).

Thumbs up so everyone can see

  • @CrystalSphear Badmephisto said, It's only left, right and up moves, not front mover

  • @jonlin1000 well you can do u moves with thumbs lol

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMonster405 Actually, that's not the case. In lower case R, there is a "hidden" cube rotation.

  • Ive only just started using f2l and 2look oll and 2 look pll and I can solve cube in around a minute or so I just want to know why are cube rotations so bad???

  • this is probably a very stupid question but if you have a corner and an edge piece that are already lined up next to eachother how do you insert them without messing everything up?

  • at 2:57, you say that you cant solve the pair without a cube rotation.that's not true. if u do r U R' U' R r' you can solve the pair only with R and U

  • Dw counts as a cuberotation

  • So for F2L, is it better to solve with the least rotations or the least number of moves?

  • You can use the Dw instead of cuberotations.

  • Well, by using M slice, you can orient edge and then insert the pair. xP

  • I meant 1 of the 2 f2l cases like that. Sorry.

  • I hope you know what I'm talking about, the 2 f2l cases where the corner is solved and the edge is oriented to either the left or right on top. It is also used in corner then second layer beginners method. Would you use d' (L' U L) d (R U' R'), or y U' (L' U L) U (F' U' F)? They are both about the same time for me, and I am wondering which is faster and better for f2l. I memorized them both already.

  • @TripleStarTy I would prefer D'L'ULDRU'R', because I don't like to use F or B. I find U,L,R and D much faster to use, if I have a choise.

  • lol 6:40

i know you said uniform speed but it sounds like "unicorn"

  • WOW dude this was so useful

  • does a (d) for example, count as a cube rotation?

  • instead of using a cube rotation, cant you use notations such as (d, d')?

  • How is 02:14 a tip?

  • Comment removed

  • What do you mean by cube rotation?

  • is it never necessary to make more than one cube rotation on a single f2l slot?

  • did u put your camera on your head?

  • @davape69 i think so XD, u can see the image is shaking!

  • @davape69 Yes, he does! He says that on his website.

  • i dont know how you can upload vids with a 15 seconds average

  • I love your keyboard

  • I agree 100%. I've searched tons of other youtube videos on cubing and I'm finding myself coming back to badmephisto. Alot of the other videos have great cubers but they can't explain anything to save their life. Badmephisto has a nice way of explaining things and teaching you WHY you do certain things a certain way. It helps to get a clear understanding of how the cube works. I think I've paused your videos over 100 times so far to make notes lol. Anyway......Thanks man!!!

  • I love the fact that the more i practise solving ( just normal timed solves ), the more my times are getting better ... my average now is ~30 secs ... when you read this, it may be 29 secs :D

  • you r making the history of youtube cubers

  • buenos videos señor....k buenos consejos aunk..a de saber k el mejor guia de rubik 3x3 esta en español..explicado por rhulius

  • Hi ,

I love all ur Cube Videos...

    I have 1 Prob , where i solved 3 pairs of f2l !!

And i can't solve the 4th , i cant move either the corner nor the middle piece ...

If i try to move any one em' any pair moves away pls help me

  • uhh... what?

god F2L is way too hard

    impossible for me .

  • @ezarlol No its not. Everyone thinks like that in the beginning. Look at his beginner F2L vids. Trust me. You'll be slow at first, but then you'll easily chop off a whole lot of time with practice.

  • @IPwnAllAndLeaveNone I've already been practicing for a week and it still takes my exactly 55 seconds just to get the cross and First Two Layers. That's horrible time

  • @ezarlol

Yep. That's what it does. The first few weeks of me using it was absolute fail, my times went up by over 40~45 seconds. And now, I chopped off a huge 17~20 seconds off my solve just by using F2L rather than normal corner then edge. That may not seem like alot, by if I hadn't learned F2L, and still at a horrible time, I would have gave up on cubing, which is a great hobby. Just practice, and don't practice if you are frustrated, wait til you are calm, then it will work better.

  • @IPwnAllAndLeaveNone ok then

i'm mad tho cuz my eastsheen 2x2 4x4 and 5x5 haven't come in the mail yet lol >=O

  • @ezarlol Lol, Eastsheens are old now o.O

But they are good enough if you havent used those cubes before

  • @ezarlol - Hahaha, dude, I just saw this and thought I'd tell you... Check out my first ever video, Cuban Party. That was back when I first learned how to solve. It was a 2:30 odd sec time. When I got to around a min, I learned full Frid, and my times went back up to around 1:30, but after a good month of memorizing F2L cases, my times went to 45, then started to go down more and more, now, I'm battling sub 20, and working on sub 15.

  • Why can't people spell it right? It's not friedrich, not fredrich, not Fridrick, it's FRIDRICH

  • @JL2996 Haha people can't decide how to pronounce it also. There's Frid-rich, Frid-rick, Freed-rich, Freed-rick, ... and some people even use a silent D (Free-rick, Free-rich, etc) haha

  • have u ever owned a transparent clear type c cube ive had mine for 2 yrs and its turned out to be a piece of shit so what kind of cube would u recommend i was thinking eastsheen but i wasnt sure so i thought i would ask u

  • I was also lubing my cube for a long time with WD-40 and so i started lubing it with silicone and now my cube falls a part easily no matter how tight i tighten it and lube it again and again should i just buy a new cube

  • @JMan7884 WD-40 destroys the plastic in the cube, yes it is recomended

  • i like to put the corner in its place but with the white facing to the right then match up the edge like in the beginners method the to see what i am talking about set it up by doing R U R' U' R U2 R' U' R U R' R U R' U' R U R' R U R' U' R U2 R' U' R U R' then do the R U R' U' R U R' to solve it the other one is the same set up but the edge matches with blue instead of red and do R U R' U' F R' F' R to solve it is this a good way to do it or not

  • you make it look so easy ....

  • my DIY rubiks cube type A is not as smooth as yours, even with a lubricant

  • I have trouble realizing when a cube rotation would be better versus no cube rotation, but at a much slower rate

  • 4:18, you can do:

    r' U' R U M'

  • Love the vids!!! But I was wondering if you might be able to write out the algorithm you use to solve the green/orange slot starting at 2:53. I'm trying to watch how you do it but you're so fast!

  • Comment removed

  • OMFG what are the chances of an OLL aand PLL SKIP

    NEW PB!!!!!! :O :P :D

  • man this is not right my friend used beginners method and got 19 sec and i scrambled it for him and i used f2l oll pll and got 28 sec. man i was pissed!!!!!!!!!!

  • my f2l is 15 secs,i don't think its enough i wanted to go to 12 secs or less...hopefully

  • Man I'm getting use to advanced F2L but I'm really slow because I need to get the logic behind so I can be faster like what drewsky684 said.

  • My average is 35 more or less.. best (non lucky) 26 secs.. any advice?

  • me too!

  • this totally makes sense to me. I will often solve the cube in slow motion just so I can see every move that I'm making and I think of the logic behind it and where I can do better

  • you say something cannot be done without a cube rotation, but what's wrong with using the F or L faces?

  • Isn't Dw technically not a cube rotatation?

  • @chetjan

Dw, you are turning the D layer and bring a center with it.

  • if u may plzzzzzzzz answer me and tell me what to do my F2l used to be 10-15 secs now its 25-40... i stopped for 2 months speedcubing on a 3x3 so now my F2l is ruining my times i sped up OLL and PLL but my F2l ruins everything plz tell me what to do

  • practice

  • @MrFamilyguy4ever ... Practice :)

  • my f2l is 40 secs. i hope my f2l time can reduce to 20 secs

  • Can I ask something Sir?

Are you gonna make a tutorial on COLL?

  • I solve the cross in 5 seconds and the whole f2l in a total of 20~25 seconds. my best time is 30.32 secs.

  • Mine's 30.31.

    Nice.

  • Just wanna ask how many weeks does it takes for all the OLLs to be memorized?? I'm still using 2 look OLL and it's slowing my cubing(i guess) my average is 39 seconds.

  • @jayrome23cobre I don't yet know full OLL, so maybe I am not the best person to answer, but whatever. Anyway, I've already learnt 15-20 OLL's not counting the ones i've already learnt from 2 look OLL. I've picked the ones that all look easy to learn first, and learning these only took about a week and a half : D

  • nice tips.. thankss

  • good tips a little confusing right now my f2l is 20 secs so i will work on that

  • thank you for this video tutorial!!

  • man you dont have a single video that did NOT help me all of your videos helped me a lot

  • hahaha, strange way to say that.

  • Me too! This guy is so awesome! This is more productive then playing Maplestory!

  • @Aiming4Harvard oh man, that game was wayyy too addictive

  • instead of cube rotations to fill the slots on the F layer, can you use { D' } and adjust the { U} layer?

  • Comment removed

  • It's part of learning it.

  • ummmm, what? if you are in a competition, id assume you know your rubiks cube, and can at least use preinspection to plan the cross. and i ve seen meph do it in like 16 seconds no preinspection

  • my best with over 200 moves is 33.85 seconds my best with f2l... 56 seconds haha but im getting better with f2l because i constructed a siamese rubiks cube which forces you to learn f2l and it does really help

  • i really dont think you can sustain a 6tps solve (200/33.65 = 5.9 turns per second)

  • agreed

  • hey, how can you solve the whole cube in 33.85 seconds if you do f2l in 56?... Paradox?

  • 33.85 was using another method than f2l the 56 was when i first started learning f2l. no pardoxes here haha

  • =P, ok, my bad

  • i am averaging 1:08 sec cus i need to DO LESS ROTATIONS! :P So i need to practice the cases for every angle then practice looking ahead :O

  • G5 mouse :D

  • like x, you rotate your cube on the x axle

  • what does it sound like? lol

  • i know this vid was about placing c-e pairs in the slots without cube rotataions but in an actually solve is it good to use F and/or B to solve F2L?

  • no, in an actual solve you never want to use F or B

  • how do you not use F or B in f2l? i can only do it with a cube rotation. plz explain...?

  • @badmephisto What about R' F R F'? you never want to use that to insert an f2l pair?

  • @badmephisto why not?

also i agree with everyone that your videos are extremely helpful. and you encourage me to go to a competition even though i suck lol.

  • haha, im using a 3 dollar one

it sucks balls but its good for learning how to do it

i can break it if i feels like it =D

  • your the best teacher for these kinds of things.

  • what notation did you use in 2.18? (the last f2l)

  • it was R' U R U' R' U R

  • he used R' U R U' R' U R

  • You know how you are explaining how you don't have to rotate the cube while putting the F2L in, but whilst you move one corner and edge piece for the colours, the other pieces will move and this will change the outcome?

  • i was wondering if you knew anything about ZBf2l?

  • Look at SOME algorithms on cubewhiz :) and then just practice solving :)

  • i take 35 seconds to f2l haha ;(

  • thanks for the vid dude! it really helped!

    5 stars!

  • Its basically the R U' R' U R U' R' insertions but from a different angle

  • What's the formula at 2:18 ??

  • R' U R U' R' U R

    Something like that.

  • Thank You. Your tutorials have tought me so much!

  • thanks for the tutorial, i improved a lot in my f2l. last solve i did the f2l in just 10 seconds! thanks man!

  • thanks man you are pro

  • my average is sub 25 seconds now :) Thanks Badmephisto :)

  • Is that a store bought cube ?

  • Mr Badmephisto...Can you send me one of your cubes!? They move so fast!!

  • hahahha....tortak,,,if you want a speed cube, you can try DIY type d...they move so fast..heheh

  • by knowing principles of bld you can tell easily is pair solveable wit R/U/L moves. You need only look for edge; can it be placed with R/L/U/D/F2/B2 moves? if yes then it is solveable with R/U/L moves.

Take a note: quarter turns of F and B are not allowed :P

  • Woah... Doing two pairs at a time with out looking is hard! I can do one easily but two is hard.

  • That sucks.

    I´m german and I don´t understand much :D

    Bud i think it´s very helpfull. :D

    5*

  • i got a booklet with 41 f2l cases and 186 algorithms in toltal some are shorter but they have more awkward turn lik b,l,d how can i try to remember the one i need?

  • Comment removed

  • its a thing i printed out its got all the diff algorithms i got it of the web :) i forgot the name of the site but if i remember ill tell you :)

  • ok. thanks.

    i hope you'll remember it.

    please!

    hahaha

    bye!

  • Do you still do intuitive F2L?

Or did you learn a lot of algorithms with Fridrich?

  • time + practice is ALWAYS the best method. Thats the base line. Everything I say is just stuff on top of that.

  • you're the best man

almost every week ill check out your new vids cause they are just what people need

    its like a habit now

  • you're too kind :) glad you like them. thanks

  • thanks man, igot an average of 34 seconds. i watched almost all of your videos and they helped me a lot. now my best time is 24 seconds.

  • i got to solve a cube without cub rotation thx

  • im averaging around 20-25 sec now, what do u think is slowing me down my lookahead?

  • why can't you do any F or F' moves, its useful but not a cube rotation.

  • you can, you just don't want to. they are slow. and cube rotations are ok, but too many of them are to be avoided.

  • i don't think they are that slow, if you can do F with your right finger, and F' with your right thumb or left finger, they can be pretty fast. Might just be me though?

  • they are slow unless u hold the cube different than anybody else you have to reposition your hands

  • i must disagree, compared to D and B moves, F moves can be done very quickly. With your right hand, you just tilt it slightly and use your pointer finger to do a F'. And its really helpful when doing algorithms with consecutive R', F or F' moves

  • That's compared to D and B. Personally, F and F' are fast for me, but any R, L or U is a hell of a lot faster (although D is still kind of fast for me). This is for people who are into speed, for most (unless you're deformed or hold the cube a strange way) it is best to stay away from B's, D's, and F's (they are also bad for school...)

  • dont you do any challenges................

like thrawst..u are a better cuber than him bt still...

  • challenges are stupid

  • oh!!!!

    k........

i had dis question may sound stupid...

is doing d or d' better dan cube rotations??

  • only if it flows with your solve. try not to do fancy moves if it makes your brain reassess the entire cube..

  • you are a genius

  • Badmephisto, What are your thoughts on doing lowercase d or d' moves to avoid cube rotations?

  • This might be a stupid question, but how do you know ahead of time when you will have to do a cube rotation? Are you only supposed to use the L, R, and U faces when solving F2L, and have to do a cube rotation if those won't work??

  • no cube rotations are ok to do. check the vid description

  • Yes, the description says "often they can be avoided, and it is important to know when this can be done." So how do I know when it can be done? I'm pretty good at inserting pairs, I just have a habit of rotating the cube so that my next slot is in the front right position.

  • NICE !!!!

    5/5!!!!
