  • This is a wannabe Braveheart, and not a good one.

Caesar was never defeated by a Gaulish army. He only had one army of 11 Legions and if he lost it he wasn't getting help from Rome. Vergingetorix could lose as many battles as he liked as long as their were still some adrenaline fuelled Gaulish warriors to follow him.

  • What the fuck Am I watching???

  • vikings....:O

  • @khaikrul450 no, gaulics

  • I'm looking for Obelix throwing menhirs at the Romans.

Was he played by Gérard Monpardieu ?

Abraracourcix was part of the battle.

    Where was he ?

Ils sont fous ces Romains !

  • Which one is Asterix?

  • @AnarchicJ haha lol

  • why are the Romans wearing lorica segmentata? they didn't start wearing that until the Dacian wars...

  • my goodness, I think I herd the same horse noise about 70 times!

  • what a pile of crap -both Romans and Gauls inaccurate , Roman armour wrong period and badly done ,as others have pointed out . As usual the Romans seem to forget to fight as a unit -but we get the open one on one fighting so beloved by Cinema.

  • that's the ugliest roman armor ive seen.

  • Lol, I think if they tried to be a little more realistic, they should not let their actors wear any clothes for the ancient Gauls were stark naked when they go to battle. They carry huge shields though and large swords. Mighty scary sight.

  • @ConstantineJoseph no i think they're portrayal of Gualish equipment is spot on. the idea that all guals fought naked is a myth. certain groups certainly did like the gaesatae but most of them were clothed like they are depicted in gaulish artwork. sure the romans look like shit but the guals they actually didn't do a bad job on.

  • @OriginalBlace Probably the hair, the moustache the cloak and the helmets are. But where are the large shields with their ornaments? Where are some of the naked warriors lol.

It would be great if we can see them in action as the Gauls believe armor will only hinder the usage of their large swords where they have dexterity to swing it.

That would be an awesome sight.

  • @ConstantineJoseph

Imagine Christopher Lambert fighting bare clad.

  • Bravo my Keltian brothers. Greetings by Vend!

  • We bit innacurate the legions did not wear lorica segmentata in gaius julius ceasars time only after the c/a around 37ish anno.

  • Awful movie .

  • Another movie witch steals sound effects from Braveheart ..

0:52 . Hamish dad in the battle of Stirling?

  • 1:45 Helmet is a little too small isn´t it?

  • Bravo my Keltian brothers! KILL ALL LATINO-GYPSIES AND ANGLOKOZAKS ARRIVALS!

  • @XTadej foolish muslim! we control you barbarians!

  • piss off muslim pig

  • @scottgr0389 Your momma is muslim gypsie idiot!

  • yes the it must be from asterix lol

  • Got the ending to this movie?

  • les gaulois ne sont pas germains mais celtes. vraiment incultes que vous êtes!

  • Lorica segmentata at 52 bc? LOOOOOL

  • @GyorgMarine I know -really poor research and its a poor type of segmentata at that

  • THE GAULS ARE GERMANS

  • the worst film ever. Real life's Vercingetorix didn't deserve such a bad tribute.

  • So many historical inaccuracy. From the costume to the portrait of the event. Gergovia was a failure attempt on the Roman to take Gergovia rather than a Gallic vitcory in the Roman campside.

  • I love to see the Romans gettin a battering!

  • 1:36 epic helmet :)

  • 1:16 the worst yelling ever xD

  • this isnt realistic at all just saying, Romans wouldn't let this happen a shield wall or some other rank formation would have been formed and the savages would have been defeated. :)

  • Awfully bad movie.

  • @mybluecat1

what did u think of the movie Atilla, with powers boothe and gerard butler? if u hated that movie too, then I will not listen to you that vercingetorix is a bad movie. but if u liked that movie, which i really liked, then i will listen to you about this movie vercingetorix.

  • @Tomacomo I have not seen "Attila" (by the way, try to spell that name correctly).

Anyway "Vercingetorix" was an awful mess. Christophe Lambert should have quit for long.

  • @mybluecat1

first of all, you should watch it, bcause it is a great movie. second of all, dont be a filthy troll dog telling me not to spell attilla right or wrong

  • @mybluecat1

no i saw a clip of this moviem, and ur right its horrible, it has some woman warrior in it teaching christopher lambert how to fight. dumb bitch, in real life he'd slap her and tell her to get back to the kitchen. then he'd vercingetorix would buy her from her father and she would bear him many children before dying in child birth, and he wouldn't care since he had 5 other wives

  • I'm trying to find information on Ambiorix and the mysterious disappearance of him and his soldiers,

    Any video info on this?

  • @satyrjack very Gaulish way indeed, patchwork amateurish?

  • I went to Gergovia ! but this film sucks ! Gauls never had Wings or horns on their helmets ! x)

  • does everyone think this movie sucks?? because i havent seen it but it looks kinda horrible

  • @paddotk It should have come out better. They had the right idea with this movie, but it was just so poorly executed.

Christopher Lambert... I don't know if I blame him completely for this stinker, but I don't think he helps it any - at all.

    LOL

  • @TheLoyalOfficer Too bad, I really would like to see a good movie about Gauls... ;)

  • "There can be only one.....terrible wig!"

  • WHAT A SHAME ! awful music, awful costumes, awful actors, ridiculous armories...WORST MOVIE EVER !!!!!!!

  • How come every video I see includes a remark about Lorica segmentata, why not just be happy they made something on Rome at all lol. We see the pinnacle of their creation and that should matter. Hollywood usually disregards historical accuracy, this is not news.

  • An awful scene fom a terrible movie.

    Quel immonde navet!

  • @Ingremance A clunker movie indeed!

là où il y a Christophe Lambert...

  • Gauls dirty Barbarians

  • @TransilvaniaROU Gauls weren't Barbarians. They were Celts.

  • This is what gets me, You have all these extremely documented events happening more than 2000 years ago, yet people still believe in religions with no proof to back them up.

  • screw you all western europe, EASTERN EUROPE RULES!!! SLAVS 4EVER!!!

  • The Western Roman Empire fell because of the German peoples, not the Celtic ones, who had been assimilated in the Empire: France especially was the brightest example of the romanized province, and today it's still considered a Latin country, besides what some people weirdly think. The Scots were defeated many times from the Romans because of their primitve culture that had a very few to share with the Gauls' one, though Celtic. Rome left Britain because she had more important things to think to

  • @Risinguptotheair lol, Rome left Britain because it had it's ass handed to it on a silver plater. It wasn't only the 9th Legion - 1st Cohort that got decimated, Many, many, many Romans were cut down, from the forts in Wales all the Way to the Scots in the North! the Celts threw the Romans out and they limped back to their emperor like a mangy dog. The mountains of Wales and Scotland were the key elements used. The Celts knew their land, the romans didn't.

  • @LolFishFail are you talking about when caesar invaded or in 410ad? if your tlaking about 410ad i would say you need a lesson in history but if your talking about when caesar invaded then i would thumbs up.

  • ce jour là, les romains vous avez pris une branlée!

  • @olbodala: no, you're wrong. Italians don't hate french. We only get upset when we hear bullshit as "Italias forced to work in France..."... I love France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, England, Spain, Greece... i think Europe is a fantastic place and i love the different cultures you can find travelling through our fantastic continent

  • @olbodala: all that you should be happy about is to see your country dominated by muslims and black people. Vercingetorix srtuggled to defend his country from Romans with great courage despite the defeat... if he could see what France has become... then, italians forced to come to france is the biggest stupidity i've ever heard

  • @olbodala Huh? I beg your pardon, but what are you talking about?

  • ....and all this time we thought he was Connor Mcleod the highlander who became immortal!..bah!!!now I owe some money!!!

  • Gergovia was a great victory for gual, and as much as you don't believe Vercingetorix was just as good as a commander as Caesar. Only 700 legionnaires didn't heed the call to retreat, Caesar lost 7,400 men at Gergovia (therefore there where other skirmishes) while Vercingetorix lost 3,000. In blunt terms Caesar got his ass handed to him, he was even planning on abondoning the entire campaign after this terrible defeat.

  • Didn't Caesar have Vercingétorix strangled in front of the Forum after his final victory at Aleisa?

  • @1138thz I believe that it was five years after Alesia, but yes according to legend, Vercingetorix was strangled in front of the forum.

  • @Gigrantula58

too bad I rather Admire a man like Vercingetorix he deserved a warriors death

  • @1138thz Yes, I agree with you. Vercingetorix was a brilliant general. Unfortunately, Julius Caesar wanted him to die as if he were an animal going to slaughter. It may have been a politcal message to Caesar's rivals.

  • @Gigrantula58

You're right. It urks me is when they tout Boadicea as a great Celtic leader and warrior...she neither. Men like Vercingetorix fought Rome for 200 years and preserved what they could of Celtic culture. Boadicea lost the only battle she ever fought against a full strength legion and rather badly too. To the tune of 80,000 killed on one day. And while the slaughter was in progress she watched from a heavy chariot while her nation died. and then took the cowards way out...poison

  • The romans Lorica segmentata are the armour of asterix comics...bad film..

  • If the Gauls were untied Ceaser would have never conquered them

  • Many romans soldiers were barbarians (celts or germanic) working into roman army. Many celtic tribes were allies of the romans against other celtic tribes. Same for germans. Many german tribes were allies of the romans against other germanic tribes enemies of the romans.

  • This is not a battle, this is just Romans who are running away from their duty.

  • is that Christopher Lambert?

  • I liked the personation of caesar in this movie btw

  • Comment removed

  • great-looks real

  • The Romans didn't use the Lorica segmentata during Caesar's time

It's also not the way Gergovia went, the Gauls never reached the Roman camps, all they did was chase the Romans away from the Gallic city walls, and it was never Caesar's intention to take them annyway, he wanted to preform a quick raid for boasting rights, but when the signal to halt and march back to camp was given some legions didn't listen and decided to storm the walls, Vercingetorix by sheer chance chased those guys off

  • @alldamnnamesaretaken

You're right about the lorica segmentata. People who don't bother getting details like that right, usually don't bother with the story. haec movens pictura onus excrementi est!

  • @alldamnnamesaretaken

Yes they were using chain mail then. I don't know who cast that fat little punk as Julius Caesar but they sure got it wrong. Caesar was a hard ass and a great leader...he wasn't an elitist in the field he ate what his men ate and was all over the battlefield kicking ass and taking names he wanted his men to see that he wasn't afraid to do what they do....that's why his boys loved him.

  • @alldamnnamesaretaken

Umm no. Gergovia was a great victory for gual, and as much as you don't believe Vercingetorix was just as good as a commander as Caesar.

  • @alldamnnamesaretaken hollywood never gets old does it :P So annoying that they use the segmented armour in all periods of roman history, these soldiers should wear chain armor.

  • @alldamnnamesaretaken Neither the scutum..

  • @alldamnnamesaretaken It`s never been proven the romans did have the lorica segmenta in Julius Cæsar`s time, but it hasnt been disproven either. It is possible that they did have but that only soldiers of high rank used it. But as you say, the romans probably didnt use it under Cæsars time. They used the lorica hamata.

  • @alldamnnamesaretaken Well said. The lorica segmentata is such a common error in the celluloid industry. Also the scutum during Caesar's time was oval and the helmets were the bronze type. You'll also notice the gladius the Romans are using is of the Imperial era rather than late Republican.

  • Just a bit of history: the "great" vergingetorix kissed the roman imperial eagle; but he was a man without honor and betrayed the ROMANS. For this crime he was executed like a pig (he was a pig).

  • @rivercaesar Chi e dite? Gli italiani?

  • @rivercaesar Italian for: "Who said that? The Italians?"

It helps to be fluent in more than one language, but lacking the appropriate accents can be annoying :)

  • Run Caesar, run!!! :):):):)

  • @crescenzogizzi1965

    Troll much?

  • @CelticAngloPress Truth much?

  • Romans were really afraid of Barbarians, because Romans were relatively short (1.60 meter average) so Barbarians looked enormous and Romans were not used to fight against an enemy that did not wait politely for you to prepare

  • .its all good. history had a happy ending. Rome Got wiped out and sacked another 4 times. Celtic civilization outlasted roman civilization which was wiped out the memory of which being saved so well really only by the catholic churchs efforts. Roman civilization become a memory and celtic civilization lived on into the modern day. Ultimate revenge against the roman murderers who tried to wipe them out in my opinion

  • @OriginalBlace shut the fuck up you savage barbarian loving traitor.

  • @Darkfire9189 lol. if i was a barbarian loving traitor i'd love rome. The people who threw unwanted children onto rubbish dumps, slaughtered thousands of people a day for fun, used christians as human torches, committed genocide on a scale that rivals Nazi germany, had 2 thirds of its population slaves who had no rights. I hate barbarians, which is why i hate rome.

  • They where never savages, you must be one of thoughs Americans whom think we invaded Iraq to save our phreedoms

Go do some real history, chances are unless your a Romanies Gypsy you are actually spitting on the graves of your own ancestors by that comment....you have no idea

Well thats unless your a dirty goat fucking Greek.

  • @OriginalBlace From my point of view, history never has a happy ending. And roman civilisation has lived on very strongly, even through Germanic civilisation. You can say that the Celtic influence was destroyed; it was around 400 BC that Frankish, Langobardian and other tribes took over. Ripurian Franks were actually Foederati of the Romans, and used their order of military ranks, clothing, and got the scripture from them. Even the Julian Calender was used by them.

  • Vercingetorix was dragged in chains through the streets of Rome .... this is the true story! Imperatrix Mundi Rome!

  • I didn't know they had machine guns in 52 BC.

  • The Celtic equipment in that movie isn't too bad, Roman one is too much inspired by the Asterix cartoons rather than real armor designs of the time though.

  • Another problem most of you didnt mention is the roman armor: Lorica segmentata? only around the late 1st centuary AD they used it, back then it was the lorica hamata (A mail armour that covers the chest and back).

  • @aaudi6365 thats the error you find in 80% of roman docs or movies. At the time of caesar they wore lorica hamata or chainmail .

  • @sushanalone

True (BTW lorica hamata IS chainamail, only that it covers the chest and shoulders)

  • this is the deafeat of ericcdouglace

  • im not saying the gauls wore horn helms but im sure someone did if its a steryotype that hey have them. not all stereotypes are true of course, but they dont come out of the air either.

  • Yes, the infantry equipment is unforgivably inaccurate (by 90-100 years if you were being *really* generous).

The notion that those are "Viking" helmets? Sheesh, stop getting your history from cartoons.

The romantic take on victory over the Romans? Well we can forgive that tbh - lots of the civilised (no coincidence!) peoples of Europe, north Africa and the Middle East have tales of their ancient ancestors' brave struggles against Roman rule, that engender all kinds of feeling in people.

  • Comment removed

  • Out of interest, you guys who are calling those "viking" helmets and decrying the helmets for their historical inaccuracy -

Vikings pretty much never wore horned helmets, unlike lots of other germanic/gallic/celtic peoples who really did variously wear horns, wings and antlers on their helmets/headgear.

    You're almost exactly wrong. :)

  • That can't be the real music from the movie can it? Please tell me it isn't?

  • Horned Gauls? I just had a heart-attack this is so bad.

  • Who ever was incharge of there costumes should be shot. There 'Armor' looks reallllllllly bad.

  • OH snap! The highlander! I thought he was born in the 1400's..... apparently he is older than he claims to be! I smell.... CoNsPiRaCy!

  • Uh this doesnt seem very accruate i'm sure the romans only lost because they were outnumbered 1-5 or even 10. lol

  • @RalphyGreene ceasar commanded 25,000 and vercingetorix 17,000. Vercigetorix was in a fortress and ceasar on the plain. He sent his men forward and then ordered a retreat but the order didn;t get to the front elements and they assaulted anyway. Bottlednecked against elite celtic heavy infantry which was supported by missile fire from the fort the romans suffered 6000 wounded and 650 dead, the celts only a couple of hundred dead or wounded. Ceasar withrew the attack before it was routed and left.

  • @OriginalBlace Oh ok what type of missle fire did the celtic infantry have did they use bows or javalins?

  • @RalphyGreene

Ceasar mentions the Gauls using bows, javelins and slings that would be used to fire fist sized rocks. If the enemy came close enough they could also throw large rocks from the top of the walls or pour boiling oil at their attackers. This is why Ceasar preferred not to directly assault celtic fortresses with a strong Garrison and why he never assaulted Alesia because he new that Celtic fortresses could be quite formidable. Gergovia proved his point to his over eager soldiers.

  • Where is Asterix and Obelix?.......

  • it took 40,000 roman soldiers to conquer greece, 80,000 to subdue Judea and 120,000 to conquer gaul. 30,000 romans died in this war. It was no walk over it was incredibly intense and hard fought by both sides almost lost by the romans on many occasions and only rescued by Julius Ceasars military genius

  • winged helmet is in the gallic iconography. Just seek for it.

  • You have to remember that ceasar didn't only conquer Gual, he also conquered rome. He only ever lost two battles in his entire military career. The only two men to defeat him in battle where Vercingetorix and Pompey, The later of which Ceasar defeated in the battle of Pharsalus with his roman legionnaires outnumbered more than two to one by other roman legionnaires. And he obsolutely butchered them. His success wasn't based on roman superiority it was based on military genius.

  • Too bad for him Caesare ends up kicking his ass:)

  • Don't f*** with the Celts!!!!! Romans got the same massacre fighting Boudicca and the Germans at

    Teutoguger Wald in AD 9.

  • @celticbattleaxe

Boudica managed to kill a lot of civilians, but not many soldiers before her army was wiped out.

  • @celticbattleaxe Boudicca was a Briton not a German

  • @TalonMercenary I did not mean to say that she was German, but rather linking the revolts of the Pretani (Britons) and the Germans at the same time since they posed the greatest threat to Roman expansion. Sorry for the confusion. :)

  • @celticbattleaxe ohhhh i understand lol i didn't read it properly

  • @TalonMercenary No, no, no. I framed the sentence wrong, and it can be interpreted to ways.

  • Comment removed

  • @WolfFang119

It came around more likely in the time of Claudius,

  • Roman Soldiers never fought that bad. This move is crap. Historically inaccurate and juts dumb. For what I know Romans always kept their line

  • @TheBritain66 The Roman soldiers lost this battle it's only a true fact. nothing more....

  • @burtoncaly i know that but lorica segmanta in 52bc. Legions wore Lorica Hamata in 52bc

  • Lol, lorica segmentata in the gallic wars. And legionary cav. Fail.

  • how are his name: vercingetÓrix or vercingetorÍx?

sorry the english, i am not american ^^

  • @Arthurtaekwondo Actually : "The etymology of the name Vercingetorix is still contested. The most generally accepted analysis interprets it as Gaulish ver- ("over, superior" – an etymological cognate of Latin super or Greek hyper), cingeto- ("warrior", related to roots meaning "tread, step, walk", so possibly "infantry"), and rix ("king") (cf. Latin rex, Sanskrit rāja-) , i.e. "great warrior king" or "king of great warriors". In his Life of Caesar, Plutarch renders the name as Vergentorix."

  • @nikychib Thank's for the answer, but i don't asked this to you!

  • @Arthurtaekwondo And in the celtic language it was pronounced something like that : Wer-kinn-ghetto-rix

    or (in french) ouèr-kinnguéto-rix

  • Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae

  • Obelix: Hey friend..you are in the movies !!!!!

  • MA DA DOVE HANNO PRESO QUESTE ARMATURE? DA ASTERIX?

  • Yabba my icing!

  • Asterix: Not so fun now.

  • @JulioAvi lol i think asterix was in there beating up thousands of romans

  • but didnt the romans win that war in real life

  • Fucking fail battle. A battle took hours to finish , this was done in just 3 minutes.

  • well you don't even need to know history to see that if all of Caesar's legions died at Gergovia, he couldn't have won the war

  • @THExKNIGHTxGUARDIAN Good point...:)

  • They won't be happy in Alesia

  • wow white people give themselves WAY TO MUCH CREDIT LMAO!!

  • errr..... where are the roman formations!?!?!?

  • Never knew the Romans lost 2 million men in this battle.

  • this is total bull the Romans kicked their ass

  • All I can say is they probably didn't spend much money on this movie.

  • they didint hace LOrica segmenta !!!!

  • wow the romans did terrible

  • I want to see Battle of Aleasia xD

  • I rented the movie...after 10minutes i returned it back >.> it sucked so bad

  • Romans are awesome! They are almost awesome like ancient China!

  • @micah9639 it exist realy celtic helms with wings but they ehre rare. It could came from the belive, that revens bring the souls of the deadt in the next life or so.

  • helmets with horns.....jesus christ!!

  • Did the director of this film know anything about Juilius Caesar's campaign against the gauls at all? I have a VIDEO GAME more accurate than this load of garbage.

BTW, not an insult to the uploader, just an insult to the movie itself. So no hard feelings.
