I loved FFX...Tidus was my least favorite character mind you...but storyline wise it was lightyears better than FFVIIIs...and the battle system was pretty good.
Zidane isn't whiny, he's a lecherous, cheery, sarcastic little shit. I don't think there's actually a single scene in FF9 where he angsts about anything.
Which isn't to say that FF9 wasn't bad, hell no. Soundtrack was nice, I guess.

@brainjuice654 That was also designed to be a character development plot y'know where he gets over an emotionally crippling development and learn something about himself. It's not as if he just throws the towel in for the rest of the game and doesn't stand at the last battle. It's not as if he risked life and limb to go back for Kuja at the end of the game. Its not as if (I only wish they'd have stuck with ending it after that scene made it more touching) he appeared to have died beside Kuja.
@Arella17 character development is meant to happen over time, not at a certain point, thats weak plot structure, ti be fair, legend of dragoon does alot of it as well but thats only because it wanted to develop the characters more, the whole your not alone scene was done at the last minute. if it wasn't for his friends, zidane and his fellow fellpool companions would have been dead before the final battle because kuja destroyed nede um i mean Terra.
@Arella17 and the entire final battle was just pathetic, even the fans of the game agree, necron was pulled right out of their ass it's as if some idiot decided that they wanted frieza from dragonball to be the final boss because thats essentially what he was, that and the obvious starwars reference in the narrative makes him the worst final boss of all time. the funny thing is the battle against kuja is scripted which ruins the moment.

F9 is not bad (and NO it's NOT worst then 8) while I find his reasons to be a bit unfair I would be a hypocrite if I said I didn't do the same thing. I think people try going into it with a open mind but if it's not your thing then that's cool too but before you say a game sucks at least have played it first.

Seriously, if this game had been in the same graphical style on the 2D plain, with no voice acting, I garantee there would be no complaints about anything anymore than any other FF game.

@BlackenedThorn I agree. I'm a regular at the Final Fantasy Answers website, and I see a lot of people have A LOT of issues with Final Fantasy X, and even with Tidus in particular.
I'm picky as fuck when it comes to RPGs - especially JRPGs - and I've played hundreds of them. And I couldn't find one fucking thing wrong with Final Fantasy X. I didn't particularly liked Seymour's vocal actor, however he did his part VERY well for the very first Antagonist in the series to actually get a voice.
I will admit, I've only played FF7, FFX, Dirge of Cerberus, and a little of FF8.
I hated FF8. I found FF7 majorly overhyped and redundant (Fun, but cliche' and redundant), Dirge of Cerberus was okay but didn't feel like an FF game...
As for FFX, out of all of them, it has stood its test in time. I can't count how many times I have replayed this game and maxed everything out. As for skeptics. I seriously think people are nitpicking WAY too much.
@BlackenedThorn Honestly, it's very easy to make a video that nitpicks on a game hard enough to make people believe it's bad. I can make Chrono Trigger into the worst creation ever using retorics alone.
I do see that most of it is all for some sort of... comedic relief, but too much is too much. And it got overboard a few times.
It doesn't feel like he's using humor to point out serious mistakes. It feels like he's just talking trash about everything.
Personally I think Final Fantasy IX is the most underrated 3D FF game. While I found FF7 I found it over hyped but it was fun. I however found FFX's linear gameplay, voice acting and puzzles to while not being a horrible game just was not fun, for me at least. I find like in FF12 the side character's story and personalities tend to over shadow Tidus. Vaan/Penelo may as well been a NPCs for all they do but it's not there fault.

What exactly is LINEAR about it? Its probably one of the most character developement based and symbolic ones in the franchise.
The voice acting was sub-par, given it was made 11 years ago and was the first FF game to use it.

I find the excuse of it being 11 years ago a weak point to make. Just because it was there first voiced game does not mean they could not hire better voice actors. Not all of them were bad but Tidus and Yuna's VA really did not work here. VA's can really make or break a game/movie some times even with a good story.
@BlackenedThorn Like I said the game felt linear, to me. I kinda liked the trill of being able to run around the over world exploring. I remember in IX I took a airship to a island I was not meant to be on and got "pwn'd" by a Ruby Dragon. I just liked to be able to run around exploring again that's just how I felt.
I respect your opinion but FFX is just not my thing. I didn't enjoy the characters and felt a part of there world again that's me.
No game is made for everyone. but to say its linear, unless you are referring to the corridor style path of the story (Which makes sense given the 60% of the game is their pilgrimage and getting to Zanarkand), is somewhat wrong.
I can understand people not having it as a favorite, or preffering other FF games, but when it comes to this titles, theres two things I heavily object to:

I However will heavily object to this being the most underrated 3D FF. The fact it has it's own sequel means it most have done well enough for some one to want it. Heck for as bad as X-2 was it still sold well what that says about us as a species not withstanding.
But FFX has a share of people who have actually played it and formed opinions like you and me. And then there's idiots who have NEVER touched it and just repeat bullshit they hear from other people.
As for FFX-2... FFX was the last SQUARESOFT developed FF game. It did extremely well in sales and got a Greatist Hits record and many revered it as the "Best Game for the PS2"... Soooooooooooooo....
@LadyCorsaires Whenever Square Enix was formed soon after and Squaresoft bit the dust, Square Enix took advantage of FFX's popularity, and gave it a sequel that was simply meant to rake in some extra dough.
The REAL sequel should have been about Auron, Braska, and Jecht's Pilgrimage, being a prequel to FFX. The sequel we got was a low tier piece of garbage that recycled the environments of the old game and then DESTROYED every bit of character developement made in its predecessor.
@LadyCorsaires Not to mention, they pulled a Charlie's Angels act, and poorly tryed to replace Auron with that cliche' bitch, Paine.
Except they forgot that Auron was a manly, and therefor a clone had to be A MAN. They forgot that he actually HAD a story to tell, unlike Paine. And they forgot to make her resemble the suttle but complex charm that Auron in Paine.
Auron was a badass.
Paine was a wannabe.
And even though I don't play Dissidia, I'm still wondering why Auron wasn't in it...
@TheGeoshark FF3/6 was my first final fantasy game played it exactly 20 times, played FF9 10 times and FFVII countless times...and I still say FFX is a great game. I'll give you it has it's bad points like Blitzball being a required game when it's not that fun. Tidus as a character isn't very strong and Yuna seems like the real main character..however overall the game is solid it has great characters the battle system kicks ass and it's got a great story with a great tragic ending...until X-2.
I actually like this one more than FF7, and I've seen a multitude of people that agree with me on that. I mean, pretty much all of the flaws you speak of are not taken into consideration.
At the time of its release, it was a really good fucking game.
spoony is lucky to not have played final fantasy 9, it's basicly final fantasy 8 but worse in basicly every single way, if you hate final fantasy 8 you will hate final fantasy 9.
@brainjuice654 FF9 is the best FF. In FF9 the villian actually makes sense(Garland), he even has what you could call a "noble" motivation. I think it has the best plot of the series, even if in the end it is just the same thing(the guy who wants to destroy everything).
@Ugallardo garland is just a pointless plot device who's purpose ends at the end of disk 3, seriously they could have cut out the entirety of the terra scenario and it would have still made sense if not more. in fact, they could have cut out half of disk 3 because it was completely pointless and unnecessary filler. the fact that an entire disk is dedicated to chasing after a villain and accomplishing nothing bothers me. legend of dragoon did the same but they used it to develop the characters.
@Ugallardo and best plot of the series? really? disk 1 was short as hell and very little was accomplished in the plot. disk 2 had lots of filler but actually progressed the plot near the end then it went back to sleep in disk 3 only to wake up to see the abomination they had made only to decide to patch it up by making a long final dungeon with pointless narratives that make no impact on the plot whatsoever and are only in there to keep the player hyped up for what could have been a good plot.
@brainjuice654 The fact that FF9 has the best plot of the series says a lot of them...they are full of cliches(time traveling, evil emperors, evil brothers, evil sorcerers, evil EVERYTHING, genetic manipulation, etc). The only villian that actually made sense to me was Garland, because he wanted to restore his world. Don't get me wrong, I loved all of them in their moment, but in the end the one that I like the most is FF9.
@Ugallardo besides, garland isn't the actual villain , he was merely a plot hole filler to extend the plot and waste the players time more, he never served any other purpose in the plot. yes he destroyed the castle but he still didn't manage to accomplish anything special other than creating a civilization of slaves who do absolutely nothing but suck his dick every now and again, i mean what other purpose could an under-dressed vessel be there for? and they're all tiny, child fetish much? creepy
@Ugallardo only to be dissappointed to find out that it was completely meaningless as kuja makes his appearence and once again defeats the entire party, woo hoo 90% of disk 4.....POINTLESS and then the developers were like "fuck it lets just make the last boss into a game of guess the reference not to mention the fact that the last boss made no sense to the plot whatsoever and it's only purpose was to reenact a famous quote from star wars in order to provide an amusing apology to the poor fans.
@Ugallardo final fantasy 9 is an encyclopedia of popular references from popular media set in an androgynous environment, something i could come up with in 5 minutes, that is all.
@Ugallardo garland is the darth vader of the game, his purpose was to tell zidane that he is his father and that kuja is his brother which puts the character into an emotional state (as if we havn't had enough of that already) only to find out that he's an arrogant prick who gives others advice but never takes advice from others, he then snaps out of it after about 2 minutes prolly because amarant basicly called him a pussy (of all the people to say that......).

i say the future ff games need to go back to its first 5 games, dont get me wrong 6 and 7 were amazing but 1-5 actually had castles, armor, hardly any technology. kinda remind me of fire emblem characters, with what they look at the time atmosphere and etc. future ff games need to go back to the classic looks atleast 9 sort of did. or it could be the fact that sakaguchi no longer make ff games since 10 i think and they all suck after words, square modernize or futurize it...
FFX is a good game, but with such unlikeable characters (By that I mean Tidus and Seymour) it's certainly not a game I'd reccommend to people who plays a game for it's story. A main protagonist as annoying as Tidus and a villain as transparent, stupid-looking, and annoying (redundancy is redundant. there, I saved ya a one sentence comment) as seymour, FFX is not a game I'd find myself trying to beat once a month every month.Ya, Tidus and Seymour are just that dreadful.

I'd probably enjoy these games if I actually finished any of them the almost decade ago I played them. I never owned them anyway I just played them over at my cousin's house. But I still enjoy Spoony's opinion and am eager to an video he makes.

@DenarianLord - You don't have to use the auto-attack button if you don't want to. It is possible to select all your spells manually. I wouldn't recommend it, since the gauge tends to fill up rather quickly. Though, it might be more doable if you slow down the speed of combat.
@Bane340 - The story isn't all that complex. You are cursed by a Fal'Cie and either need to complete the task that it gave to you or turn into a mindless monster that wanders around until all of its power is gone.

FF8 Isn't Where it started to go bad, FFX-2 is where it started to go bad.
Yes, actually, that has happened to me. The game was called Final Fantasy III DS. I did not like the design of the characters, hated them. Way to childish (Even though they are children...?). But I bought it, and loved it. Can't beat it, but I still love it.

I can't really deny spoony at all for subjectively putting this out there, though to be honest he kinda had not much of a reason to bash so hard on blitzball seeing as he never got wakka's world champion so he really never needed to play more than 1 game of it and it carried almost nothing to the story. For those that did get it, yes, it is an unbearable amount of blitzball to put up with. Nothing infuriated me more than 200 lightning dodges in a row for lulu's onion knight.
I think all old ff fans are in the same loop, fortunantly as soon as i played ff12 that was it for me, I moarned for squaresoft realizing we'll never get that magic back again. I love spoonys reviews even though i disagree with his hatred for X it's still fun to watch.
The plot and story may not appeal to you but that doesn't mean that it is bad. FFX is the best FF in terms of character movement, creating meaning and working a complex narrative. Hell, every other FF only does one of these well, if at all. Take FF VIII for example, it's the closest to X in character movement but it does pathetically with meaning and it's narrative isn't juggled well. FFVII does a good job with the narrative (though pathetically paced) but there is next to no character movement.
@arm8200 I think he actually did admit that his reasons for liking FFIX were somewhat unfair, but that was how he felt and he stood by it. Fair enough I say.

I can relate a little to how Spoony feels about FF9, its exactly how I feel about the anime One Piece. I'm pretty sure its a good anime, but I dislike the character designs, and that why I never gave it a chance. Luckly I didn't have that problem with FF9.
I'am ashamed to say that, I enjoyed playing 10 and actually I disagree with Spoony and think that Final Fantasy 9 was my favorite in the series, but I LOVE these reviews. @melwabz: What Youtube Money? Spoony/Noah isn't a youtube partner with his Own Channel "SpoonyOne" and he NEVER uploaded the FFX Review on youtube himself. I love FFX and his reviews (liked 8 review more). It's really funny how he deliver this.
FFX gets into the top greatest list in Famitsu magazines and Tidus is really liked in Japan. He's an example in tvtropes "Americans Hate Tingle", liked in the homeland, but hated someplace abroad. Unlike "Germans Love David Hasselhoff". Westerners need to appreciate these creations more like Japan does.
@ExurbanDist Why? We probabley have tons of characters that the Japanese can't stand. It's called values dissonance. Our cultures have different ideas of what the model of a hero should be.

@BlackenedThorn I agree. I'm a regular at the Final Fantasy Answers website, and I see a lot of people have A LOT of issues with Final Fantasy X, and even with Tidus in particular.
I'm picky as fuck when it comes to RPGs - especially JRPGs - and I've played hundreds of them. And I couldn't find one fucking thing wrong with Final Fantasy X. I didn't particularly liked Seymour's vocal actor, however he did his part VERY well for the very first Antagonist in the series to actually get a voice.

I will admit, I've only played FF7, FFX, Dirge of Cerberus, and a little of FF8.
I hated FF8. I found FF7 majorly overhyped and redundant (Fun, but cliche' and redundant), Dirge of Cerberus was okay but didn't feel like an FF game...
As for FFX, out of all of them, it has stood its test in time. I can't count how many times I have replayed this game and maxed everything out. As for skeptics. I seriously think people are nitpicking WAY too much.

I do see that most of it is all for some sort of... comedic relief, but too much is too much. And it got overboard a few times.
It doesn't feel like he's using humor to point out serious mistakes. It feels like he's just talking trash about everything.

Personally I think Final Fantasy IX is the most underrated 3D FF game. While I found FF7 I found it over hyped but it was fun. I however found FFX's linear gameplay, voice acting and puzzles to while not being a horrible game just was not fun, for me at least. I find like in FF12 the side character's story and personalities tend to over shadow Tidus. Vaan/Penelo may as well been a NPCs for all they do but it's not there fault.

What exactly is LINEAR about it? Its probably one of the most character developement based and symbolic ones in the franchise.
The voice acting was sub-par, given it was made 11 years ago and was the first FF game to use it.

I find the excuse of it being 11 years ago a weak point to make. Just because it was there first voiced game does not mean they could not hire better voice actors. Not all of them were bad but Tidus and Yuna's VA really did not work here. VA's can really make or break a game/movie some times even with a good story.

@BlackenedThorn Like I said the game felt linear, to me. I kinda liked the trill of being able to run around the over world exploring. I remember in IX I took a airship to a island I was not meant to be on and got "pwn'd" by a Ruby Dragon. I just liked to be able to run around exploring again that's just how I felt.
I respect your opinion but FFX is just not my thing. I didn't enjoy the characters and felt a part of there world again that's me.

No game is made for everyone. but to say its linear, unless you are referring to the corridor style path of the story (Which makes sense given the 60% of the game is their pilgrimage and getting to Zanarkand), is somewhat wrong.
I can understand people not having it as a favorite, or preffering other FF games, but when it comes to this titles, theres two things I heavily object to:
1. That the game was bad.
2. That FFX-2 was GOOD...

@LadyCorsaires Whenever Square Enix was formed soon after and Squaresoft bit the dust, Square Enix took advantage of FFX's popularity, and gave it a sequel that was simply meant to rake in some extra dough.
The REAL sequel should have been about Auron, Braska, and Jecht's Pilgrimage, being a prequel to FFX. The sequel we got was a low tier piece of garbage that recycled the environments of the old game and then DESTROYED every bit of character developement made in its predecessor.
I hate it.

I'll give you it has it's bad points like Blitzball being a required game when it's not that fun. Tidus as a character isn't very strong and Yuna seems like the real main character..however overall the game is solid it has great characters the battle system kicks ass and it's got a great story with a great tragic ending...until X-2.

@Ugallardo garland is just a pointless plot device who's purpose ends at the end of disk 3, seriously they could have cut out the entirety of the terra scenario and it would have still made sense if not more. in fact, they could have cut out half of disk 3 because it was completely pointless and unnecessary filler. the fact that an entire disk is dedicated to chasing after a villain and accomplishing nothing bothers me. legend of dragoon did the same but they used it to develop the characters.

@Ugallardo and best plot of the series? really? disk 1 was short as hell and very little was accomplished in the plot. disk 2 had lots of filler but actually progressed the plot near the end then it went back to sleep in disk 3 only to wake up to see the abomination they had made only to decide to patch it up by making a long final dungeon with pointless narratives that make no impact on the plot whatsoever and are only in there to keep the player hyped up for what could have been a good plot.

@brainjuice654 The fact that FF9 has the best plot of the series says a lot of them...they are full of cliches(time traveling, evil emperors, evil brothers, evil sorcerers, evil EVERYTHING, genetic manipulation, etc). The only villian that actually made sense to me was Garland, because he wanted to restore his world. Don't get me wrong, I loved all of them in their moment, but in the end the one that I like the most is FF9.

FFX is a good game, but with such unlikeable characters (By that I mean Tidus and Seymour) it's certainly not a game I'd reccommend to people who plays a game for it's story. A main protagonist as annoying as Tidus and a villain as transparent, stupid-looking, and annoying (redundancy is redundant. there, I saved ya a one sentence comment) as seymour, FFX is not a game I'd find myself trying to beat once a month every month.Ya, Tidus and Seymour are just that dreadful.

@DenarianLord - You don't have to use the auto-attack button if you don't want to. It is possible to select all your spells manually. I wouldn't recommend it, since the gauge tends to fill up rather quickly. Though, it might be more doable if you slow down the speed of combat.

Also, Yes, Tidus can be annoying at times...all the time, BUT! He is still a decent character. I love this character more than I do a few others in the series (Screw you, Cait Sith), and I love this game. Besides FF4/The After Years, this is my favorite FF game. FF7 is my third favorite. FF8 Isn't Where it started to go bad, FFX-2 is where it started to go bad.

I can't really deny spoony at all for subjectively putting this out there, though to be honest he kinda had not much of a reason to bash so hard on blitzball seeing as he never got wakka's world champion so he really never needed to play more than 1 game of it and it carried almost nothing to the story. For those that did get it, yes, it is an unbearable amount of blitzball to put up with. Nothing infuriated me more than 200 lightning dodges in a row for lulu's onion knight.

The plot and story may not appeal to you but that doesn't mean that it is bad. FFX is the best FF in terms of character movement, creating meaning and working a complex narrative. Hell, every other FF only does one of these well, if at all. Take FF VIII for example, it's the closest to X in character movement but it does pathetically with meaning and it's narrative isn't juggled well. FFVII does a good job with the narrative (though pathetically paced) but there is next to no character movement.

lol, l don't really find IX to be that fasinating but to me, it was the last final fantasy game. I just pretend that X, XI, XII, XIII and XIV don't exist.

Okay one thing that pisses me off about youtube is that people complain about a person like spoony who has opinion that not happy and praising something get flagged for such then get sick and tired of it and finally stop making videos..I mean what are we in grade school..who gives a shit I mean really you have that little common sense to tattle on someone because they hurt your fucking feelings and you see them as a bad person..I loved FFX in fact its one of my favorite games so grow up

@nnecron Spoony also has fun lampooning Otaku culture. The kind people that would like this kind of story. The point of these reviews is to also see fanboys rage over having their product of affection broken down and analyzed.

@nnecron "Everyone else who thinks the story of FFX is the highlight of the game" Is the fandom, who have much in common with Otaku culture. Spoony seems to hate that fandom and everything about anime and Otakus. So whether everyone else has that opinion is irrelevent to him. It's those kind of fans who love the story of FFX and similar JRPG's that he's ranting against. In simple terms, he's a "Fan hater." His tastes differ from those who like the story, and he's letting everyone know.

@StraightCougar ttly agree with you, this guy is annoying tedious to listen to and just not even funny, its like he is cry for attention. all he does is moan bout tidus being whingy and moany but hes the most whingy guy that reviews.. and his voice grates more than tidus too.

My opinion of this guy is, that he is a Final Fantasy fan. He's making these reviews out of fun, and, MONEY!!!!! YOUTUBE MONEY!!! Plus, He's having fun at the same time. No harm done. We have fun with his reviews anyway. Plus, it's all actually true.=) Thumbs up if you agree=)

@melwabz: What Youtube Money? Spoony/Noah isn't a youtube partner with his Own Channel "SpoonyOne" and he NEVER uploaded the FFX Review on youtube himself. He isn't making money of youtube and often enough said himself that he won't return to youtube, after he got flagged often enough for stating his opinion on games.

I love FFX and his reviews (liked 8 review more). It's really funny how he deliver this.
FFX gets into the top greatest list in Famitsu magazines and Tidus is really liked in Japan. He's an example in tvtropes "Americans Hate Tingle", liked in the homeland, but hated someplace abroad. Unlike "Germans Love David Hasselhoff". Westerners need to appreciate these creations more like Japan does.

@ExurbanDist Why? We probabley have tons of characters that the Japanese can't stand. It's called values dissonance. Our cultures have different ideas of what the model of a hero should be.

@AlvaritoArtema He's just said he played FF IX and didn't like it for his own, personal, childish reasons you don't have to agree with. I don't agree with those reasons, I liked FF IX and even enjoyed FF X, that doesn't mean I can't have a laugh watching this crazy guy criticize it.

@lhi04 I guess Spoony overemphasized on the appearances only. They are not preteens they are older than that, I saw designs on the internet that they made that look different. But since IX was a throwback to old school I guess they decided to use that appearance instead, so if IX looked different instead of looking super deformed, would he like it?
