  • it would be cool to be enlightened

  • What raag is played in the background!

  • 阿弥陀佛。

  • So this were the writer of the new testment get the idea of jesus being tempeted by the devil.noo sratch that, they basical copy the whole story.

  • I have wondered what he meant by the term architect. Thanks for putting your explanations. A good movie and a lot can be learned from it.

  • yes..enslavement to the 5 senses represented by the 5 maidens/daughters of mara or illusion.to conquer the self is to acknowledge there is no self..

  • '...you who go where no one else will dare.'- 2conquer ones own Ego[Mara] 8:25.- this i think is th essence of Self-realization achieved by Siddartha an Mahatma Gandhi. this line affected me profoundly. i think it is indeed, th hardest battle in life.

  • watch?v=puEhyb7HXt0

  • buddam saranam gachaami

  • always my favorite part of the movie eversince I was a kid!

  • poznavat.cz

  • Facing self, accepting self, solving self, letting go one self..... easiest to face yet hardest to accept ......... words can't explain, . !

  • @Mpurpo

Sounds like you have deep understanding of Karma and buddha's practice.I admire you.

  • ok so buddha does not believe in faith and gods but yet Mara (lord of darkness) sent his five daughters to distract him???

  • 6:55 - 'There is no spoon'

  • this music is of sarod is played by ustad ali akbar khan.

  • Merits for you uploading this

  • Does the part of arrows became falling flowers mean if we are not scared of the incident, then every thing will be fine at the end?

  • I dislike all bad things tranlate to woman, because many man also have greed, jealous , selfish and etc........In india many baby girl will kill before because man and woman not equal...

  • @samewish: I agree with you about the inequality of the society. Women are smart and, sometimes, really strong as much as men are. However, in this movie, I think the five daughters of Maara are "innocent", just only Maara (our ego) is the one who is in charge of every evil deed. :)

  • So from this movie I get...

    Judaism : Christianity ; Hinduism : Buddhism

    Is this analogy somewhat right?

  • you must become one with your shadow in order to become shadowless!

  • Indian women are some of the most beautiful women in all the World...

  • I agree with this and die of jealousy when I see Bollywood hotties.

  • @JoeyMartyr haha thank you very much =)

  • @kcullen09 haha no prob ; ) i meant it then, and i mean it now! ya'll are absolutely breathtaking! be gud!

  • om mani peme hum,om mani pemhe hum,om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum ommani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum om mani peme hum

  • nice scene :o), but Sidharta should have accepted architect Mara...he is cool and gifted and everything :o) I thing something was wrong in Gautama's mind you, that kid was too spoiled (LOL)

  • Unwordly moment of understanding

  • Comment removed

  • Mara seems cool. I think I'll worship him. Hail Mara! \m/ >:)

  • i love this movie and this is my favorite scene. This movie actually prompted me to start learning more about different religions when I was 9 something I still do. I can almost thank this movie for a lot of what I know and what I am now.

  • That is a great scene im new to buddhism but this movie i remember a kid and now that i watch it , well it is mind boogling. Have A Great Day To Everyone

  • All your comments have truth in them, thank you! As a Christian, I have to say that Satan has been misconstrude as well! For me he is not a person but also the darker side that lies in us all. The fallen angel is a symbolic way to show us that.

  • the greatest scene of the movie. It is so mystical, especially when mara looks like siddharta.

  • mara is the ego in all of us. as simple as that

  • As Sidartha reached a point where he realized the whole truth of the entire universe and its mechanisms, as a mortal, he will be faced with Temptation and fear . It's like "the farther u go, the thinner the line is between light/dark" in short. It's just my personal interpretation of Mara.

  • What some people from a Western background might not understand is that Mara is symbolic. Not a Satan-like figure, but an aspect of your own mind.

  • Your way of interpreting Mara is true also, but tat is part of the Mythical/Legend-izing misinterpretation, fri. There r many cases where miracles (such as the bowl moving upstream) happen in Buddhist texts, but all of them canot be interpreted as actual events. Many of them are misinterpretations that happend over a long time.

  • Very shallow and western comment of yours.

  • house builder:craving,House:samsaric existence, rafter:passions;ridegepole:ignorance since he dont have all tis there is no reasons to reborn which mean he had reach enlightenment

  • isnt the verse are in pali?

  • well correct me if im wrong i think mara is a symbolic evil or limit a wall that the buddha had to break to reach enlightenment. well thats what i think anyway and im not even religious :) great

  • perfect expression keanu is giving..........best actor

  • Yes, he did fine here.

  • 般若心経?

  • is that Keanu Reeves ???????

  • yeah

  • So when the Buddha spoke of destroying the house, he meant he had escaped the cycle of birth and death by shattering his illusory self, thereby erasing his Karma and bringing to end the chain of causes and effects which so far had been perpetuated by his illusory self, the architect of his many births and deaths. In doing so he had transcended to the highest realm of consciousness, beyond the Universe, not bound anymore by its physical limitations and became liberated or enlightened.

  • thank you for knowledge

  • yea

  • @Mpurpo so he got high?

  • @Mpurpo in other words, Nirvanna or an Ego Death

  • To those of you had trouble understanding the "Architect" comment by Buddha (Keanu Reeves) in the movie, let me try to explain it. The demon Maara is not a real demon like say Satan, to give you something to compare with. This demon according to Buddhism is your illusory self that is in control as long as it is attached to worldly sense objects and is motivated by fear, anger, greed, hatred, pride, jealousy etc.

  • arquitect is the same as Demiurg in Gnosticism , the real evil god which trapped us here .

  • I think, it's not about active deception by a deity, but about self-illusion (see also Mpurpo's comment above)

  • good info for non-buddhist

  • @Mpurpo

Our consciousness or real self stuck the R-complex or reptilian brain.

  • @Mpurpo great explanation

  • what a great movie. thanx 4 uploading.
