I wonder...when we create a computer or some electronic device that over time it acquires true artificial intelligence by developing consciousness, free will, and the ability to replicate itself...I wonder, when that happens, will its replicas think of the original unit as their God? I the only thing that I love more than science fiction is science FACT. I believe we're on the verge of many mind boggling breakthroughs in various fields of science and technology.
At 2:20: How can a parent report to his child which note to expect next when the children do not pass the notes to their parents but only the name of the song?
@wlorenz65 OK, now I have it: The parent reports the next SONG to its children, and not the next note. Therefore the child can report back the name of the song as soon as it hears the first note, even if there are several songs starting with that note. It's just a way to resolve ambiguities.
Always be skeptical of people's resumes and past work histories when they give them. Humans are wonderful at padding their resumes. e.g. when this guy says "I started company X, Y, Z." I have friends and relatives who have started SEVERAL companies, each. But none of them actually produced anything or got paid (2 separate unrelated issues, by the way: one can not produce yet still get paid, because consumers are stupid, or produce but not get paid, because consumers are unfair).
@mphello I definitely know what you mean... but this guy didn't have two failed businesses. His net worth in August of 2000, was $1.3 billion.
And he only started the businesses because he needed the money to continue his research in Neuroscience and machine learning (Since his doctorate proposal was turned down when no professors were doing this type of work)
That being said -after the whole economic collapse, he's net worth has dropped, but is still around $400-500 million.
@koolanator I believe every sickening nauseating word that you said (YOU'RE not sickening and nauseating, this Jeff Hawkins is). Two words to explain his net "worth": corporate welfare.
If his money can be traced back to coming from the military, then it comes from taxes, then it is corporate welfare.
@mphello I'm not quite sure where your hostility towards this guy is coming from... honestly interested to know why you don't like the guy.
But the majority (and i can't give numbers, because I don't know them) of his worth comes from Palm - which is a public company, the rest of his money comes from his research facility at Berkeley. And the majority of the money that comes out of this facility comes from other companies who see potential in his technology. Automobile navigation, security etc.
@mphello I don't really care about the guy, but his research is exciting to me... I based my graduate paper on machine learning via HTM's and Candidate Critique models.
@koolanator I guess he did something. Of course, thousands of computer scientist and operation researcher bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees are produced each year. I think they are all equally noteworthy. They are all equally worthy of respect and admiration for their sacrifice and hard work.
So, don't worry: I'm not saying "Jeff Hawkins is a nobody who achieved nothing" - nothing like that.
I just mean for people ALWAYS to keep their admiration in balance.
Why is he so amazed that the Iranians could be working along the same lines? Doesn't he know they are a modern nation? He might be smart on brains but his politics may just be mainstream.
I've seen a similar visual recognition process implanted into guiding systems of cruise missles. Of course it only recognizes its targets but doesn't catalog it in a meaningful way......well, except for the seek and destroy part
Im 22, i really think AI is going to be a huge part of the future i will witness.
I mean, they really only need to crack the ability to give machines intelligence (which they are well on their way to doing) and after that the AI's will be able to multiply that intelligence by themselves.
Wow, this the beginning. Wow. I saw a soul on a computer. I saw a soul that can traverse space and time. I saw a soul travelling from the earth to other planets at light speed.

Did he say, "belief propagation network."? That sounds like Juan Matus speaking to Carlos Castaneda. That old indian had it right after all!
