Good points on the cultural standpoint. My Mother in Law is from the Philippines and is constantly shoving cookies and candy into my 4 year old's mouth just to make her eat something. My inlaws have type 2 diabetes and are in horrible health due to their diet but won't make that connection. My daughter's school is almost entirely Hispanic and the school lunches are junk food and teachers pass out candy as motivators. Almost all of the parents and teachers are obese. Just an observation.

The point of these studies is to show that although obesity is an issue for all races in the U.S., obesity affects Hispanic Americans more than any other race. With the increasing Hispanic population in the U.S. the problem with obesity will become an even greater problem in the United States.

This a very good educational video. It is not because our DNA: the percentage of overweight people in Latin America --with the exception of Mexico, where deep fried foods have become very popular-- is way lower than in the USA. Before fast food and sugared sodas came to Latin America, there were even less obese people over there.

@ImoenOfTelengard Latinos are individuals that are from Latin America. Not all latinos are hispanic. Brazilians are not hispanic, as they speak portuguese. Some Amerindian communities will not be considered hispanic as they have their own languages.

Hispanic would be spanish speaking individuals and nations of the world. Latino just means from Latin America which includes English speaking Belize and Portuguese speaking Brazil.

(spanish, italian, portuguese, german, french) usually they are forgotten.. that's why americans think that all latinos are short, of brown skin (like mexicans) countries like argentina or brazil have a major population from european descent.

Yes, that's what I was alluding to. I am full Nicaraguan but I am light skinned and have green eyes due to my heritage from Spain. Also, it's not Spanish and Native American that makes a mestizo, it's Spanish and indigenous tribes such as Mayan, Incan, Miskito, etc. (If that's what you meant then ignore my correction). Also, don't forget that Spain is in Europe too, meaning that even the darker skinned Hispanics have European descent.
