I am an alumni of South High School Class of 2006 !!! I love this video :) I had many great memories in south. I was part of Ms. Russians Choir and Ms. Halls Book Club. I'll never forget Teachers like Ms.Smith, Ms.Lancaster, Ms.Fitch, Ms. Mahoney and Ms. Baylor or the office staff Ms. Ferguson and Mr. Bowers. It's so sad they closed the school down.
Thank you so much for taking the time to film this. I am from class 2001. As many have remarked, it also does not make sense that they closed South.....many fine memories. I was on the track team with MR and MRS. Simms.....and i cannot ever forget MS. Lancaster. And Mr. Cappetto.... So sad. :(
This school is newer and in better shape than John Marshall High School, yet they closed it...makes little sense..maybe they can refurbish a little (Wouldn't take much) and use as the new District Main Offices Building...has a great heated garage, plenty outdoor parking, elevators, etc. If Third Fed built their headquarters in this centrally located hood, maybe CMSD will follow suit? Rather than "leasing" dwntn office space from landlords losing money.
Why was the school closed? I graduated in 1972 and was a member of the gymnastics team. I have many fond memories of the school, my friends, and the teachers. Great video - thanks for making it.
Just Watched the video and it brought back many memories..I graduated in '77.. I miss being there..It might sound strange but oh well...many great memories with many teachers Mr.Cole, Mr. T...Mr. Calender..And my regular home away from...The Auditorium.. Thanx for the many memories..( Thanx to Mr. Dillion for the " Thanx" spelling.....bchay42@email.com
Glad you enjoyed the video....can't believe they closed the school. I was able to get back in for the last time right before. The school was in great shape!! I don't understand why they could not use if for the community!! I also have many great memmories..I remember Mr Dillion, but my to go was Mr. Zipay! Hold on to those great days!
It is ironic that South finally got a football field and the closed! I also find it sad that the school had just got all types of repairs...during my term at south '00-'04 they completely redid the roof and repaired the heating and cooling systems...i miss those hallways!

i went to south before it closed and people say it was a bad school and mis judged south high but really it was a good school.. i will never forget my teachers there
Thanks for this video. As a 1976 graduate my heart breaks. Can't count the days spent learning then teaching routines as Captain of the Flyerettes. I'd kill for copies of the film Mrs. Gottschalk took of us performing. Both my parents also graduated from South. I still have their yearbooks, along with years '73-'76. Lifelong memories!
Not only am I alumni of South High school but also a former custodial staff member.. that was a GREAT building to learn in and work in as well.. it will be missed!!
Yes it will be missed. I feel sorry for the kids in the area....where will they go to school. I was in right after It closed, and was lucky to be there. The school was it great shape, it truly is a shame that it can't be a community center, or something else for the kids!! I had great times there!!!!
I went to south high my 9th and 10th grade year I will never forget the teachers who helped me learn so much I might be Collinwood Highs class of 2010 but I will always remain a flyer at heart
I am from the class of "77". When looking at your video the years just melted away. The school looked the same and I recognized where you were standing when you took the pictures. Thanks for reminding me of my high school years.
my parents both went to south high and graduated in 1977... its sad it closed and got so bad.. i would of loved to attend the same school my parents did...
Thanks for sharing, this was great! By any chance to you have the actual "picture" of the group shot of 1972 marching band? I would love to have it. Let me know. Thanks!

Thank you for this video, Debbie! I have a few pictures of the school, but nothing like this. The time in the band and orchestra were the best!
I spent my freshman year in the old school then moved into the new one in '68.
