They broke the main doors off their hinges, police had to barricade the entrance while the security bolts were placed on the doors so that they could remain standing. Some of them had wooden spears and many punches were thrown between protestors and police. You can't see the protestors near Gillard when she was running for the car as she was well protected in this manoeuvre. This was not just "hippies" "on the sidelines."

How much footage have you watched? If you have just watched this video I'd suggest watching more, as I have viewed footage in which you can see the physical violence. See how dramatic it's made to sound, A bunch of hippies shouting and slapping on the windows with the palms of their hands.
Notice that only people around the VIP's are police and people with cameras try to get a shot.
No one trying to attack or anything being thrown, obviously there are people on the sidelines shouting slogans.

@lockk9 Actually if you watch other angles everything you say didn't happen did. bottles were thrown people tried to tackle the pm and they were attacking her car. The key concern for security was mobility they would be unable to react to a threat as they were surrounded. thus unable to ensure security. result remove the principle from an unsafe environment. and there is a reason why....

@lockk9 They spent 30mins yelling and banging on the restaurant doors. They broke the main doors off their hinges, police had to barricade the entrance while the security bolts were placed on the doors so that they could remain standing. Some of them had wooden spears and many punches were thrown between protestors and police. You can't see the protestors near Gillard when she was running for the car as she was well protected in this manoeuvre. This was not just "hippies" "on the sidelines."

@cobdogla1 I was working at the Lobby restaurant on the day if that answers your question of whether or not I was there. My presence at the event is irrelevant though. How much footage have you watched? If you have just watched this video I'd suggest watching more, as I have viewed footage in which you can see the physical violence. Furthermore, there is footage in which a police office was spat on by the spear-holder I mentioned in my previous post.

@threesixnineone I can't imagine how frightening it must have been. I don't like Abbott, but over reacting in this violent manner, and threatening both his and Julia's physical safety, is completely unacceptable!
I hope there is a huge backlash. Cut the funding, pull down the tents... Make them RESPONSIBLE!

@lockk9 Thank you. No need to take a side on the debate just analyse the situation and realise that they were not under threat they were just wanting to voice their opinion. Not one cop talked to the Aboriginals about what they wanted. At no point was it on their agenda to hurt the leaders.
Also to top this off they mention violence numerous times. Violence: is the intent to cause harm. There was no intent so maybe they were aggressive but still a mature conversation could have been had.
