Well don't worry, nobody has asked you to bow to the Queen or the Royal Family. You can bow down to your flag and your eagle.

Secondly, they perform a function- both their military and diplomatic duties. Many of them served in the armed forces (Eg. Prince Andrew in the Falklands War). A monarchy is a good way of keeping a neutral head of state while being a democratic country. Costwise their estate pays more into the Exchequer than it pays out in Soverereign Support Grants.

Look at the figures. They are public. The Crown Estate pays all of its profits into the Exchequer. The Exchequer then pays out a Sovereign Support Grant which sustains the monarchy. Most if not all of the costs covered by the SSG would have to be paid in a Republic. The Crown Estate's contributions to the Exchequer are considerably greater than the £60m a year SSG. Therefore the country makes a very tidy profit.

We have the NHS which does provide everyone with decent healthcare. So much so that we get people from all over the world coming as "health tourists" to get free healthcare here. People make dangerous journeys across Europe to get here illegally because they know our welfare provision is so generous that it is far better than other countries

The reason people come to America for healthcare is due to innovation in medicine which you guys don't really have. I was inside one your hospitals and honestly it's like a hospital from 25 years ago. People come all over the world to get the best healthcare in the world and that's in America not in England.

We do have high taxes, and so EVERYONE gets healthcare, even non-citizens. Secodnly, I repeat, it has always been excellent quality in my experience. The treatment I had used the most modern of equipment in very good facilities.

Could you please point out which gypsies and travellers you mean? It sound most out of character, considering our welfare system seems to feel a need to give everyone who comes in from Mogadishu a massive bundle of benefits.

BFGW shopws only one side of the story. Most of those parks are on private land which they occupy illegally. I had some "travellers" move into my town. They gave us plenty of reasons not to want them there. Firstly they closed off a large piece of public land. Secondly they left litter everywhere and thirdly they were generally antisocial (loud music, drugs etc). If they want to be respected, maybe they should address those issues.

A Somali family of ten were given a £2m council house free in one of the most desirable areas of London because their previous house was not luxurious enough for them. If the travellers really want to live longer, they can maybe get a job and contribute to society.

I suppose that a monarchy could never work in the USA, but I guess that's just how we are in the UK. The monarchy is our tradition and we like our traditions. I see a lot of advantage in a society with a constitutional monarch (and the fact that half of our lawmakers are appointed or hereditary rather than elected) as it is the way we keep a stable and free society. As that is what I am used to, I would probably feel uncomfortable living for a long period in a republic.

We also trust our lawmakers to do the right thing- to make the laws which are formally signed by the Queen. If she did not do so there would be a constitutional crisis. The Queen acts as a buffer to ensure that if a government abuses its power and tries to make the UK a dictatorship she can declare a government illegitimite, something that a constitution cannot do.
