  • What is the purpose of having a raised bed garden as opposed to just planting directly into the ground?

  • Good question. For me the best reason is that elevating the soil in this fashion allows for better drainage and warms the soil a bit earlier in the spring. Hope that helped!

  • Hey DanO this is a great video thanks for posting. i just have a question my dad picked up a bunch of used and weathered Plastic Composite Decking material from work for free i am planning on making raised beds this summer but i am worried about using this material. what do you think? Would i have to worry about toxins leaching into the soil?

  • I don't think you have to worry about plastic, it's treated lumber or railroad ties that can leach toxins into the neighboring soil over time. Hope that helps.
