  • Nothing beats St Ives, family holidays since I was 1 year old... and I am still regularly there at least five times a year now I am 32! Magical and welcoming, still remember running down to the harbour to watch the old lifeboat launch when the maroons went off.....

  • I really can't wait to go back in the summer we only manage to go twice a year :(

  • Spent all my childhood holidays in St Ives, I'm now 37 and have still been going back for weekends every year. The place is magical. Luuuurv it.

  • ive been goin ere since 1977, love it, beautiful place, bit yuppiefied in parts and FULL of north londoners which spoils it. But overall you cant beat the place . traveled the world and nothing compares the beach of gwithian

  • fond memories of holidays in 1981 and 1982 there

  • ive been going there for 17 years its so beutiful

  • Wow thats along time!! I've been going for the past 7yrs so I have some catching up to do lol...

  • Thanks for response Ickle. No sorry nothing to do with me. I don't know if the Porthia you mentioned is lived in all year round or something connected with the holiday scene, but it would be good if more people buying property in St Ives and Cornwall used the Kernewek (Cornish language) for naming/renaming their houses instead of using the obvious like "Gull Cottage" or "Fisherman's Loft" etc. Always good to meet someone who sees St Ives as more than just a quaint village.

  • Once St Ives was both a fishing port and mining town, the evidence for both getting less and less. When I look at St Ives I don't see just a pretty little holiday resort, but a town developed over centuries by my ancestors through hard toil and sweat and now a place full of holiday and second homes where I cannot afford to live. Nice piccies though. :-)

  • It is very sad that st ives is becoming so Commercialised. I go there because it has captivated me....but it does bug me that there are few Original residents left!! I love everything about st ives including its history! I came accross a cottage named porthia is it anything to do with you??

  • great song ,great place!!!
