  • Magnificent beginning with Slow Violins, bravo Ashkenazy! :-).

  • This is MArvelous!!!!!

  • God save Sibelius forever

  • @MyMeatYearns4Andrea From your idiotic opinions and even more moronic user id, I think it is safe to say we all think you are an inbred fool.

  • The device of repeating the slow, tender opening theme before swelling and cantering into the second (more uplifting) theme is very Sibelian, it would seem, and reminds me of the opening of 'Lemminkainen and the Maidens of Saari'.

This is truly my favourite of the seven symphonies by the great Finnish master.

  • This symphony goes for me so to heart, I must cry every time!

  • a real masterpiece.

  • There ought to be some description of the performers. This isn't Colin Davis, but Vladimir Ashkenazy with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Decca label.

  • @idleemeritus thanks bro, just what i was looking for, u are a true youtube hero

  • Mystically ethereal, yet somehow enigmatic, this is one of my favorite Sibelius

works. The opening is like radiant light suffusing the sleep of eternity.

  • @mvolkov11 As true as well said !

  • An underated symphony but so beautiful. The opening is a little slower than other versions I've heard: I rather like! I first heard this music late at night on BBC Radio 3

when the midsummer northern sky was glowing. Anyone know who the conductor is?

  • @1spissatus This is the Londin Symphony Orchestra with Colin Davis conducting.

  • @baldrbraa NOPE! Ashkenazy/Philharmonia

  • @1spissatus What a fantastic time to be listening to this! How very perfect.

  • Tykkään mutta Herra Sibelius kuoli 1957.

  • Wonderful 6:30

  • Excellent! My favorite Sibelius symphony

  • It's one of my favorites too; the beginning just gives you shivers like the stillness of a Northern Winter

  • Its my favourite too. Although I don't listen to classical much.

  • @novichok3 I couldn't have put it better myself. It's a heartbreaking piece of music.
