@4godaddygo. Srt4 came with 230hp 250tq.. from years 04-06. The first year "03" came with 215hp. I agree stock for stock the tc ss is quicker. But if your gonna post know your facts.

I don't understand why they rant about the interior so much, I've ridden in two different Cobalts (One coupe and one sedan) and they both had nice interiors. Nothing felt cheap to me. If this was in a Toyota or Honda, it would get top ranks.

The chevy cobalt is a very good looking car. I have one, but the handling and supsension sucks compared to the 98 mazda I used to drive. I really wish I stuck with Mazda. After I pay off my chevy I am going back to Mazda.
I think that it's great how Honda kids still claim the Integra Type-R is still the best handling FWD car when the Cobalt SS/TC surpasses it. It's faster then a Type-R, handles better, gets better mileage, etc. Kids need to let go of the past and move on. I love my B13 Sentra SE-R to death, but the new cars smoke it.

Dont buy a cobalt. i bought one 2 weeks ago with 36000 miles on . From Parks chevolet in hunteville and its a piece of crap. Buy a honda and when everyones gm is failing at 60000 miles . You will be still rolling at 160000 miles.

@Gondee i plan to. it should cut i to only 21 miles. and i only have to commute 2x a week. i work 36 hours straight on fri and sat, and the a 12 hour on sun. its a great schedule that allows me to attend school during the week.

is it a nice, fast car for the money? YES! except the interior REALLY is cheaply made and tacky looking, and the body design is quite possible the more boring to look at then watching paint dry. Bottom Line: I bought my 2007 MS3 in march for 16,000 with 13,000 miles on it. I would rather get the better looking, better made, and slightly (and i mean SLIGHTLY) faster Mazdaspeed 3.
I just test drove the cobalt ss. It was surprisingly similar to my car. its definately fast, it seems to have a similar boost control for wheelspin and torque steer. it doesn't seem to have as much torque, and the car doesn't feel as solid/rigid when driving the twisties.
I drive a 2007 mazdaspeed 3 with a K&N intake... aside from the fwd making it impossible to not spin the tires through 1st and 2nd, i love it (if you leave the stability control on, its gets less spin, but the ecu cuts the boost down when the tires start to lose traction).
Yeah these are crazy fast. But its still a cobalt. You see 100s of them everyday. Their boring as hell and ugly as hell. I would rather go with the VW GTI or Honda Civic for around the same price with less HP then this stupid thing.
Few people care about horsepower. Maybe that´s why GM is having a problem with selling these cars. Everybody at GM have this misconception that it´s about HP. If it was, Toyota and Honda would have increase theirs higher but they don´t need to.

America I bow to your engineering. Its about time they steped up on the plate. Its not they were never there but they really got the civics, golfs, subaru attention. This really will make it intresting that a cobalt is in the picture. One thing i give hands down is the exterior style. There are reviews that call the cobalt ss the best handling fwd car on the planet. for 25k, that's saying something. Its also saying something for a company that has to spread it's resources over a very diverse line-up (vette's, tahoes, vans, fleet vehicles, sedans, full sized pick-ups, etc). We all know GM can out-do its competitors. Whether it chooses to is another thing. Priorities are different.

@al2683 What are you smoking it says 0-60 in 5.5 and quater mile in 14.2.. I ran a 13.9 stock in my Mazdaspeed 6. Motor week shows the mazda speed 6 running 0-60 in 5.6 and the quater Mile in 14.0 :) I dont know where you get your info from.
The Mazdaspeed6 won't break 14 stock, quit being silly, it has the same motor as the 3 and weighs more. Also, that Motorweek actually shows the 6 doing the quarter in 14 flat, not 13.9. Not that it is a huge difference but the Cobalt has been documented running 13.8 in at least 2 magazines, and has been shown to be quicker on the track.
@al2683 Mine ran a 13.94 at 100.1.. It also showed a bone stock 1995 Acura Integra GSR running 15.7 and mine ran a 15.0.. Some cars run better than others. This vid says the Cobalt turbo runs a 14.2 Motorweek says the mazdaspeed 6 runs a 14.0... Which means it comes down to the driver.. Not that it matters my MS6 is making over 350 at the wheels now.

i think the new mazdaspeed 3 is so much better than the cobalt ss. the interior is emaculate and the car is put together very well. it will also make more hp per mod (everyone knows how restricted it is). and the part about the crappy interior for the cobalt.... lol ive driven one its true. its just a fast car, thats all it is. time will tell how reliable and how good the resale value is on these.
Just checked and I actually underestimated the difference in price. The Cobalt SS has an MSRP of $24,535; the WRX has an MSRP of $24,995. The difference is only $460, so IDK why anyone would (or should) go for a Cobalt.
Most people think the hatchback version looks better. For $960 more than the Cobalt, you can get the hatch version of the WRX, which is more practical and most people also think it looks better.

After 6 mos. This vehicle will be back and forth at the dealership for qua zillion of times. Symptoms indicates Shift lever indicator will not display properly, the brake and tail light inoperative etc. And you couldn't even rotate the tires because the front rims are 7 1/2 inches wide while at the back its 8 inches wider. I have an impression that this car might be made in Korea just like the Aveos. Its a very unreliable car indeed.
@217and217 The SS Turbocharged (just like the SS Supercharged) does not come with an automatic transmission option. You're thinking the 2.4L SS (now rebranded as Sport after GM realised what they had done) which has a 2.4L VVT motor. It comes with the option of manual or automatic the SS/SC and SS/TC were always strictly a manual 5 speed.
@sexyboi142 GM offers the SS in auto? What a piece of shit company...a car like this should never be offered in auto unless it's a DSG gearbox (which GM has yet to develop).

is it a nice, fast car for the money? YES! except the interior REALLY is cheaply made and tacky looking, and the body design is quite possible the more boring to look at then watching paint dry. Bottom Line: I bought my 2007 MS3 in march for 16,000 with 13,000 miles on it. I would rather get the better looking, better made, and slightly (and i mean SLIGHTLY) faster Mazdaspeed 3.

I just test drove the cobalt ss. It was surprisingly similar to my car. its definately fast, it seems to have a similar boost control for wheelspin and torque steer. it doesn't seem to have as much torque, and the car doesn't feel as solid/rigid when driving the twisties.

I drive a 2007 mazdaspeed 3 with a K&N intake... aside from the fwd making it impossible to not spin the tires through 1st and 2nd, i love it (if you leave the stability control on, its gets less spin, but the ecu cuts the boost down when the tires start to lose traction).

Yeah these are crazy fast. But its still a cobalt. You see 100s of them everyday. Their boring as hell and ugly as hell. I would rather go with the VW GTI or Honda Civic for around the same price with less HP then this stupid thing.

Few people care about horsepower. Maybe that´s why GM is having a problem with selling these cars. Everybody at GM have this misconception that it´s about HP. If it was, Toyota and Honda would have increase theirs higher but they don´t need to.

All other shortcomings aside, a great chassis and brembos are the real things to consider at the price of this thing. 2009 civic si that i drove fell way short of my expectations. i agree on the safety and reliability thing though GM has a lot to prove

Honda & Toyota are not looking for high horsepower. They certainly have the technology. Even Nissan and it's GTR is only a niche market in their over all business model. You almost sound like Honda, Toyota and Nissan don't have the capability. ALL of these manufacturers could go that route but then why? This ain't the 70's and 80's. People are looking for cars that last 20 years and with good gas mileage. In Canada Toyota sales are soaring again. Check it out.

I drove one of these today too see what all the "hype" was about and in all honesty, this things is shit on wheels. Sure it may be quick but its still a cavalier body, WTF? Might as well turbo my moms mini van because its almost just as stupid. Interior quality was possible the worst I have seen in a new automobile up to date. The only good thing about this car is the 260hp powerplant but everything else is shit and I would spend my money elsewhere...

America I bow to your engineering. Its about time they steped up on the plate. Its not they were never there but they really got the civics, golfs, subaru attention. This really will make it intresting that a cobalt is in the picture. One thing i give hands down is the exterior style. I like the look of the cobalt unlike the civic si doesn't look as aggressive IMO.

There are reviews that call the cobalt ss the best handling fwd car on the planet. for 25k, that's saying something. Its also saying something for a company that has to spread it's resources over a very diverse line-up (vette's, tahoes, vans, fleet vehicles, sedans, full sized pick-ups, etc). We all know GM can out-do its competitors. Whether it chooses to is another thing. Priorities are different.

@al2683 What are you smoking it says 0-60 in 5.5 and quater mile in 14.2.. I ran a 13.9 stock in my Mazdaspeed 6. Motor week shows the mazda speed 6 running 0-60 in 5.6 and the quater Mile in 14.0 :) I dont know where you get your info from.

The Mazdaspeed6 won't break 14 stock, quit being silly, it has the same motor as the 3 and weighs more. Also, that Motorweek actually shows the 6 doing the quarter in 14 flat, not 13.9. Not that it is a huge difference but the Cobalt has been documented running 13.8 in at least 2 magazines, and has been shown to be quicker on the track.

@al2683 Mine ran a 13.94 at 100.1.. It also showed a bone stock 1995 Acura Integra GSR running 15.7 and mine ran a 15.0.. Some cars run better than others. This vid says the Cobalt turbo runs a 14.2 Motorweek says the mazdaspeed 6 runs a 14.0... Which means it comes down to the driver.. Not that it matters my MS6 is making over 350 at the wheels now.

The only thing you can't get is the high rise spoiler, but I got one on my 2010 ordered from an 09 out in the factory.

Gosh the quality in this car is horrible, my gf has an 06 SS and the chrome on door handles is bubbling, moon roof button falling down, shifter noble chrome is falling off. Radio controls paint gone. i think the new mazdaspeed 3 is so much better than the cobalt ss. the interior is emaculate and the car is put together very well. it will also make more hp per mod (everyone knows how restricted it is). and the part about the crappy interior for the cobalt.... lol ive driven one its true. its just a fast car, thats all it is. time will tell how reliable and how good the resale value is on these.

Just checked and I actually underestimated the difference in price. The Cobalt SS has an MSRP of $24,535; the WRX has an MSRP of $24,995. The difference is only $460, so IDK why anyone would (or should) go for a Cobalt.

Most people think the hatchback version looks better. For $960 more than the Cobalt, you can get the hatch version of the WRX, which is more practical and most people also think it looks better.

After 6 mos. This vehicle will be back and forth at the dealership for qua zillion of times. Symptoms indicates Shift lever indicator will not display properly, the brake and tail light inoperative etc. And you couldn't even rotate the tires because the front rims are 7 1/2 inches wide while at the back its 8 inches wider. I have an impression that this car might be made in Korea just like the Aveos. Its a very unreliable car indeed.

@217and217 The SS Turbocharged (just like the SS Supercharged) does not come with an automatic transmission option. You're thinking the 2.4L SS (now rebranded as Sport after GM realised what they had done) which has a 2.4L VVT motor. It comes with the option of manual or automatic the SS/SC and SS/TC were always strictly a manual 5 speed.

If GM wanted to put an auto in a car designed for performance then maybe they should have designed their own DSG gearbox. I'm an owner of a CSVT and I'm proud Ford never built a single one without a manual gearbox.
