first of all the official time has to count the scanning time, and this isnt the fastest rubiks cube solver. the fastest rubiks cube solver is cube stomer 2 and is made out of legos and the nxt mindstorm.

@24TIMBO Despite there being exactly 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 positions a Rubik's Cube could be in, the toy is made in such a way that you are NEVER (ever.) more than about 20 moves away from solving it. Once you know how it works, you can train yourself to solve them in a few minutes or so. Otherwise, you're usually just going in circles.

This one is the fastest lego solver I've seen, and it took 21 quarter moves to solve, which is what normally takes. Some people "cheat" by letting the cube only a few moves from the solution...
