Very brave boy. I remember (52 years ago?) when I was adjusting my bow tie in mom's mirror over the fireplace (jumping up and down to see it) and I backed up and backed up not looking behind me and I sat down on the open violin case on the couch behind me containing the violin my teacher had given/lent me to play the Mediation from Thais. He had said it had a mellow tone perfect for Massenet. It broke in two, the neck separating from the body and the glue I tried wouldnt keep the pieces together
@helen624 Wow, and my brother wants to start learning to play the violin. Now that's expensive, and I thought oboe reeds was expensive, like about $5-7, I will never think that expensive again...
@KeiyarlaDraga the difference is you go through more oboe reeds than violin bows--and if its only the horsehair that snaps thats alot cheaper to replace
Wonderful playing, dear boy! :-) You also have great stage discipline - you kept still during the entire tutti exposition. Credit too goes to the lady who re-assured you - wish I had a teacher like that when I was learning the violin! Briliant playing. You're a great violinist in the making!
I remember finding this video unexpectedly last year and cracking up. A year later, my friend told me this piece is cursed. Last year, a girl I know who played this movement started off on a squeaky note, as did my friend. Poor Alan broke his bow in this video. But honestly, this is the best interpretation of De Beriot's 9th Concerto that I've ever heard. Keep up the good work!
That is a typical bow rehairing problem. The shim in the tip comes lose when it's not fitted properly. The amount of hair depends on the gauge used. If you reuse the shim the amount and type of hair has to be the same. If a new shim was used, it was cut wrong (small).Cutting the shim of the tip is a huge part of the art of rehairing. If it's to big will easily split the grain of the wood on the tip and the bow will be ruin. your bowing is not rough to the violin or bow .
Geese this DEbERiot wrote many violin con.I bet no symph or anything else just a violinist writing music he could play.Such romanti music performed without a sense of its maudlin idiom .Saccharine ,but i like it.
great job. i have heard others but this is one of the best non-proffesional (i mean like, perlman/heifetz ones, i mean THAT standard, not that your not good) great job keeping going. happened to me before doing saint-saens introduction and rondo cappricioso.. i freaked, couldn't keep going. Great intonation, articulation and most importantly, INTERPRETATION! De beriot would be proud!
I think he is the best of all the youtube performances of this piece and haven't even seen any version from Perlman, or any other pro, however I would like to find one. Great work!!
shit fool. that was good. lol your bow gets kinda out of hand sometimes. but... it was fantastically well played, and i aint kiddinnn. your face was really suprised when you broke your bow hair lol.
You are awesome!! I'm definitely buying a violin now, I want to learn as soon as possible. I was told that too start a cheap one is good, is that true? I don't have money to pay for a $600 violin.
let me give you a tip... most violin sellers are gonna try to scam amature violin shoppers... dont fall for the azn ppls saying something like "i guarentee you this is the best"
I know, but I'm really good at shopping around and hassling with prices. Besides, I asked my violinist friend to come with me and help me pick. She should know which are the good ones, even if they're cheap.
Your playing inspires me to practice,to even chug through the boring exercises!! Starting at 16 is really not late compared to the age some people start, and I must work to play like you, which is a compliment as you're a fair shot younger than me. Great work, you didn't deserve to have this accident! hehe
My worst blunder. As a viola player in an orchestra I dropped my bow 30 minutes before concert. Luckily a violist lend my hers. Only problem.... I learned that day the difference between a violin bow and violin bow. The violin bow is really flimsy and I wasnt going to break two in one day ;) so I played really softly the entire concert.
The same thing happened to me once, I made the exact same face! The "Uhm..wtf?" face. I mean, what else are you supposed to do? Your really good though! Make sure you match the speed of your vabrato with the lagato sections because you've got a really, really fast vabrato.
lol! aww,, that happened to me too! my bow broke in the middle of a performance.... and it wasn't the hairs that came off, the wood snapped... it was pretty funny.... lol
Just the tip of the bow fell out, but still the same ,it's not usable anymore.
I use pernambuco too coz of its strength & superb control, but I don't know its maker's name. About carbon fibre, only the highest quality can compete with pernambuco, but they're already popular with professionals. Pernambuco is also an endangered tree; I hope they could develop carbon fibre even better to make it a sufficient substitute.
LOL yesterday played this in the concert and before i was about to start playing I though "Eh that would be funny if i would break my bow like in that video" and BAM the same thing happened to me but in a different place xD
