@gaven117 not entirely. it's just a different division completely. my household has 4 hp laptops, including 1 envy, 2 pavilions, and 1 other i forgot what it is. it's the design that's different, which actually varies quite a bit. i can feel the difference between the pavilion and the envy quite a bit, and i definitely prefer the envy. hardware may be the same across most computers in the computer world but the design & pricing is what differentiates them quite a bit.

The previous model was definitely better. No crappy cd-drive and anti-glare display as an option. The successor doesn't have any of these.

the specs didnt improve at all from the envy 14... gpu only slightly better, gotta pay extra for 1080p display. It looks abit better but thats it.

@DatHarlemNigga4U They look the same. That's the only similarity. Specwise-pricewise, the Envy is a better deal.. because a MB Pro will cost about $1900 whilst an equally equipped Envy will cost $700-800 less. Build quality.. Apple is usually one of the best, and HP is one of the worst (2 out of my 3 HP laptops have had HDD failures and chipped parts). Personally, I prefer MAC OS X Lion for it's finger gestures.. but other than that Windows 7 is just fine.

I was going to get an Envy.

@DatHarlemNigga4U And another factor that might help you decide is the fact that the Envy has smooth edges, whilst the Pro has sharp edges (particularly around the area where you open the screen). I used my neighbours MB Pro 17" and my wrists got raw.. and you can definitely cut yourself with the edges where you open the screen. However, because of my past experiences with HP's crapitude, I'm still going for an MB Pro.

@DatHarlemNigga4U Additionally, the Envy touchpads have a history of being hard to use. They support multitouch, but you have to be very particular with how you position your fingers.. in an unnatural manner. With the MB Pro, multitouch feels much more natural.

Of course.. the natural feel might not be worth the Apple premium.

@spliffo031 I don't want to sound rude, but your statements about the screen are incorrect. The wallpaper in the video does not posses a true red tone, therefore the display does not present one. If you look in the comparison video between this new generation and the last ENVY, they show a comparison of the screens while both are on CNN's site, which in fact is red. Also I have seen this screen in person and it is a beautiful IPS display with fantastic color reproduction and viewing angles. Don

@Realhamfoshea I got the Envy 15 right when it was released. The IPS 1080p screen upgrade cannot produce a purely red color. It has a strong orange tinge to it. It's not too noticeable when you are looking at the Envy 15's screen alone, but it is glaringly obvious when you compare it to any high quality, calibrated TN or IPS display. The display also has issues with producing certain shades of purple as well.

Arg!.. I was hoping that the reports about the envy 15 1080p screen, not being able to accurately display red were exaggerated.. Its quite obvious, just look at the red bar on the youtube video control, then look at the image on the screen 4:23.. its either, deal with the screen issue of the envy, or deal with the heat/fan issue of the mbp.. Decisions, decisions
