I am in my fourth year of running my "one man show" and I don't appreciate you placing an avoidance label on us as a whole. The "one man show" people really take their time to get to know their customers' systems and are the most devoted to taking care of the problem the first time. My customers have been consistently satisfied with my "one man show" operation especially after relying on the bigger companies who lost not only their data, but in some instances, lost their computers as well
hey guys, i could sure use your help, I am trying to grow my tech support business but its really hard, I would love to get some tips, employing people is expensive, hard to find good tech fixers, advertising is expensive, rent and various bills are taking away what little money I make from honest work, what the heck should I do ?
Not all "one man shows" are bad. Good signs that they're serious is if they have a well designed informative website, also browse the search engines, try to see what people are saying about them. Certifications are also a very strong indicator. If they're some Craigslist poster with a listing along the lines of, "$35 an hour, I do everything", then yeah, you may want to watch out.
Don't judge too harshly on us one-man outfits, some of us might prefer working by ourselves.
How would a one-man business get to the point of several people in the business (paid)? Currently I own a business run by me and my wife. Just thought it was a worthy question. BTW I have seen your website. Is it not done??
Well Mercy808 first off thank you for the question, the answer to your two part question is this; there is a book called the e-myth it talks about the tech run business, or the manager run business, or the "insane"entrepreneur run business, You first have to know which role you are playing before that question can be answered. The second part to your question is that my website is a process always in the making.
5 years being a one man show all be it I have access to other companies in town for contracting in help but the information is only partially true. I have never failed a company in the 5 years iv'e been providing a large number of clients. I always answer my phone and I have about a 20 min response time. I am sure there are lousy ones that give us a bad name but it's just not an all in one case rule. People find out how much I know and how consistent I am and they never look back.
