she was a character for a few episodes on season 2,but Emily Procter decided to leave because there were already 9 characters that had a main role in the show and they weren't going to add her on as the 10th.

she got hired as Calleigh Duquesne on CSI Miami when the producers were looking for somebody that fit the role of a strong southern woman and when they heard that Emily was available, they went for her.

she did come back as a guest star in season 7 of the west wing for the funeral.

and she offered herself as White House Counsel to the Santos Admin

Emily Proctor left because she got a role on CSI Miami. (Jorja Fox from CSI, who played a secret service agent earlier on the west wing talked her into auditioning and she got a permanent part)

i know! they need to bring her back for atleast one or two more episodes! Emily Procter would probably have a hard time trying to get a few days off of work if they do ask her to come be a guest star on TWW again, since they have to run it through with the CBS producers of CSI Miami

a little stiff and vastly different from her hayes character but perfect fit for miami (I'm not a big fan of CSI: Miami but I like Procter)
