@bashbro1able I've been re-reading the stories with Gwen in the Marvel Masterworks Editions, and I think it's fascinating how much Gwen was conflicted over Peter Parker/Spider-Man far more so than MJ ever was, In alot of the late 1960s Stan Lee/ John Romita stories MJ for me comes across as an airhead with an attitude. but that's just me and my opinion, I didn't get into Spider-Man till after the Gwen era in the mid 1970s and MJ was the only female lead I knew about.

@bashbro1able An irony for me is that comics writer Gerry Conway who did the iconic 'The Death of Gwen Stacy' storyline would a couple of years later do the 'Clone Saga' storyline which would bring Gwen back to life as a clone and IMHO somewhat cheapen her death, and this would be followed up by Marvel in the 21st century with a revelation that Gwen and Norman Osborn had had a relationship a one time when it was also revealed that N Osborn had survived his skewering by his Goblin Glider :-P

I love Gwen Stacy, and I do see what people mean when they say her and Peter just click. And yes, it would be as if DC killed off Lois Lane. But I think, that's what's makes Gwen's story so great. Knowing that Spidey lost his greatest love, just makes me like the series even more. It's painful, but it's so much more interesting to read.

Honestly, after reading a bunch of spider-man comic books, including "one more day" and even checking out a few comics with gwen alive, I believe gwen is a better choice for peter than mary jane. I mean I can't explain it but seeing gwen and peter together actually "clicks" but seeing mary jane and peter together, I can't see how they make a best couple.

its interesting that Gwen and Norman both died because the writers wrote both into a corner. Norman knew Peter was Spider-man but lost his memory and kept relapsing and getting amnesia, it made writing him a pain. Gwen was stuck hating Spider-man believing he killed her father while loving Peter, this made their relationship standing still. They came up with the story as a way to give both important characters iconic roles they deserve. It's interesting to imagine what could've been.

I was 10 years old when Gwen Stacy died...I'm 47 now, and still haven't gotten over her death.

I had thoughts of making my own Tribute to her, but I can't find a better song than Finger Eleven's "Change the World".

This song haunts me, tears at my soul as if my name was "Peter Parker".

You know, I always found Gwen's death bittersweet. As sad as I was to see her go, I do appreciate she helped bring a darker era of comics. I saw her death as a keen story, putting Spider-Man in a "lady or the tiger" dilemma; his Uncle Ben died because he wasn't a hero, and Gwen died for exactly the opposite reason. Imagine how pissed I was when I learned the writer only killed her cause he liked MJ better. Sad that Spectacular Spider-Man was canceled, but def glad she's in the new movie!

Beautiful video, really captures the emotion behind Peter and Gwen. I just finished reading Spider-Man: Blue, has to be the most depressing Spider-Man book out. Truely a story that more people should know about, while the movies were great (except 3) I feel they missed an opportunity to envolve the Gwen/MJ/Peter drama and skipped over her story, not sure what lies for her in SM4? But the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon is doing a hell of a job at telling their story.

I must be the odd one out, MJ has been my least favorite of Spidey's love interests... I do not like that they killed gwen in the comics, not at all (though it WAS a good story -.-). I'm just glad she's his number 1 in the new animated series, here's hoping they dont fudge it up in season 3 :)

gwen was peters first love in the comics. mary jane was simply the other girl. the 2 talked about marriage but the writers felt they had to kill her off because they wrote her in to corner. they felt peter could not be married as it would age him. this brings us to the green goblin snapping her neck. her death is very important in the comic world. we later find out she had twins...i tend to ignore that horrible story. you should too.

Sins Past was a pile of sh!t Gwen would never do that to Peter. The story was a little too convenient- the twins grew fast because of the Goblin formula, an effect that never affected Norman. Plus Gwen and Norman out of all the people to get together, Peter's lover and enemy. Ironic seeing as Gwen never even once acknowledged liking anyone but Peter. Plus Gwen was gone for a few weeks not enough time to give birth. That story was crap and anyone who believes it is full of it.

According to this new author, the REAL reason Felicia became Black Cat was not because her father was a cat burglar, nooooo. Now it has to be some political thing.
