Season Five tied up a lot of loose ends it there wasn't nearly as much killing as the other seasons but the excitement of the chase was still very interesting I personally think this season so A lot better then season 3 and 1 but just wasn't as up to bar as 2 and 4 but still a great season cant wait for six

Season 4 dragged out way too long. It just didn't add up: Dex missing easy opportunities to dispatch Trinity. I began to get really bored. Among the best of the season was Trinity's family; so weird. But the writers got bogged down by the endless chase and I wanted to throw my TV against the wall. Note: Everyone "has the right to diss writers who work their asses off ." It's called the "right to free speech," and "artistic differences." This can help the writers, d-ss.
idk abt her performance in e show. imo her performance is a little less intense as what should be when a person such as her character, should feel like when she went through e things she did. i mean, i dont feel enough controlled anger, fear and those complicated emotions being protrayed. just my 2cents.
sadly this season there was no code. The low-life in the restroom that Dexter kills deserved to get his teeth knocked out but not killed. Same with Liddy. Very unlikeable but why did he deserve to die?

Just watched the final episode, great ending showtime! I do wish Lumen had stayed though, I thought Dexter finally having someone he can confide his secrets to would help him out but I guess he isn't meant to have that kind of help....yet.
Loved how Debra let the "vigilantes" go. I knew she would. Maybe now Quinn will stop riding dexter and cut him some slack.
@CorruptedBios Me too. It's a bit itchy for me that when they introduce an intresting and potentially well developable character, they write them off by the end of the season. Don't get me wrong, Dexter's been well awarded up until now, but it's getting a bit tedious. I like how each season has a relatively new premise, but they should try writing out 2 seasons where the plot continues to the other. Kinda like Breaking Bad. I would love for them to try it. Otherwise, cant wait for season 6!

Honestly i like the relationship between luman and dexter better than rita, i think the fact dexter can be so comfortable around her is awesome, and the fact Luman knows about dexter and she sticks around and helps him is amazing them have an amazing bond :) i like them as a couple, Julia is amazing as her role :), i think their perfect and equally sick for eachother xD

OK. Here's the issue I have with the Lumen plot line: The idea that Lumen 'knows' Dexter and really SEES him is purely due to extenuating circumstances. There is nothing to suggest a growth of personalities meant for each other. The Lumen plot line could have happened with Rita--Lumen's character is uninteresting. What made Rita and Dexter's relationship interesting were the hints at her possibly POSSIBLY being able to accept him for what he did for a living...without giving it fully away.
@littlepsyche Part 2 of rant: Rita was written into a nag toward the end of season 4. This was a disservice to her original character and Julie Benz who had so much more to offer. and now Lumen was introduced as a nag. Always bumbling into things, refusing to leave, ALWAYS rejoicing in Dexter's use of plurals. ("You said WE!" Drives me insane. Every time.) I'll regret saying what I HOPE happens to her character, but let me just say I'd rather see Dexter hook up w/ Sam Liddy.

Rita eventually grew into a boring character because she didn't really added to the story at all. You know, it was Dexter's wife. Full stop. How interesting.
However, Lumen is more interesting because connects with dexter step by step, and she finally knows all about him, and what he does.

@Lawliethatake I second this. Other than new minor characters and each season's new villains and such, I'm never usually big on NEW major leading characters coming in. It usually messed up the vibe in my opinion, but Julia does a wonderful job if you ask me and I've really been enjoying Season 5 (haven't got around to finishing it all yet).
Also, the whole thing when Dexter draws blood from Jordan's vial, and thinks he did it in a way that can't be noticed. But, it turns out he was wrong, and Jordan knows something is up. Oh, OK. To have a plot line hinge around such a dumb, arbitrary mistake is just pure laziness from the writers. It happens all the time in other shows. but Dexter's standards are usually above this sort of thing, which makes it disappointing.
I agree this season is a little sub-par, along with season 3, though even a weak season of Dexter is still pretty damn good. Julia Stiles is pretty but a quite limited actress IMO. Actually, up until episode 6 or so, I thought this season was excellent. But the writing has gotten lazy. This whole time I thought Dexter was dumping bodies 10 miles from shore; turns out he was doing it close enough that Liddy could photo him? It's totally inconsistent with the logic of the show and the character.
They have simply tweeked the show to catch more viewers, and personally i think this is by far the worst season, followed up closely by season 3. Season 1 and 4 are godly though. Hope they either get new writers or end the show with some dignity left.

No I don't praise season 2. I've said that season 1,2 and 4 are the best IMO. If I should rank them it would be season 1, 4 and 2, in that order.

I have been a Dexter fan since the first time I watched it... My boyfriend and I were actually debating on whether or not to watch this season because we were so disappointed with the last two.... But I have to say.... I love this season....The storyline is amazing... Julia Stiles is really great... I can't wait for Sunday =] This coming from a huge Rita fan... But I think that Julia Stiles has defiantly earned her keep.... Also Lumen has given Dexter something Rita never could, freedom =]
I feel like I may have enjoyed this season more than I should have just because I like looking at julia stiles :) I would agree that it's not the best season, but it's definitely up to par with the others.
She has to be a permanent character! Her and Dexter are the best together, this is the best season ever! I thought it was impossible to top the brilliance of Season 4 but they did! She has to come back next season!

But I prefer to watch a ever evolving Dexter who learns and grows from his mistakes. Lumen is ever improving Dexter. The intelligent observations and the feelings him and Lumen are sharing are very interesting to anyone who has ever had a girlfriend or loved a woman. Dexter, as a psychopath, should be ambivalent and in conflict with himself (like he was in those relationsships). Yes, he wants to find love and understanding BUT at the same time he has always known that it won't work... Now that has suddenly changed and they've turned him into some "Romeo-boyfriend" which totally goes against character.
@sean04201 If you don't see the change in quality now, compared to season 4 you're beyond foolish. Season 4 had good writing and great actors. Focus was still on Dexter, as it should. John Lithgow was great and the acting between him and Michael C Hall was tv-magic. "Hello Dexter Morgan", a classic moment... You'll NEVER see something like that this season! Lumen is a bad character but Julia Stiles makes her even more boring with bad acting. That's the hard truth. Deal with it!

I happen to like Lumen on the show! I felt like Rita was really slowin down season 4. I always felt the urge to fast-forward through the rita scenes last season, lol. Lumen is cute, and is perfect for Dex cuz he can be his true self towards her when he could never do that back in the day with Rita. I love this season, and i love Lumen. I'd hate to see her get killed off. That's just me.
@pretzy2 yea I agree. Season 4 was boring because it seemed to drag on. It was exactly the same thing as season 3 cept instead of dealing with dealing with being a serial killer/ husband it was serial killer/ father and Harry telling Dexter *in his mind* that he was going to hurt them if he tried to lead this double life. He was right, Rita ended up getting murdered because of him. I love the dynamic of the story now that Lumen is with Dexter... She adds a great arc to the story line.
She's good on Dexter. I like the whole storyline, but I don't think she's going to stay. I enjoyed watching the two of them bond and was slightly disappointed when they had sex. All I could think was "Is it not possible to have a female/male relationship portrayed in television without sex?" I saw him more as her mentor, not her lover. I don't want anything bad to happen to her, though, but a suicide would be kinda cool & unexpected.

Like I said earlier, I want "Dexter" - not "Bonnie & Clyde".
You could see where it was headed with the looks Dexter was giving her. I still feel like it's too soon for Lumen to be sexing it up with someone [remember her freaking out at the airport?] but at least she was the one to initiate it, and Dexter let her, <333... awww, our boy has a crush.
Dexter's monologue at the end just confirmed that I want Julia/Lumen to come back next season.
the whole partner in crime thing is fantastic. and I knew as she would grow closer to him and also a nice built up for some sex... if she was smokin hot this woud be UN-BELIEVABLE!...but oh well she's not, I dont digg her acting as well. I really dont like Julia Stiles but Lumen's character is probably the closest thing to true love we've ever saw and will see.
My guess writers will make her stay and I have mixed feeling about it since I don't digg her personally or her looks.
i love Julia Stiles , even since in like 2 episodes i felt like she is not that good actor , now i think she had improved and i love her , not to mention she has awesome body :)
I'm also really loving Lumen. Finally Dexter has a friend that knows him and accepts him for what he really is. Bonus points for not being a complete psycho like Lila and Miguel.
I know there's 0% chance of anything romantic happening between them this season but I want to see where it goes, please don't kill her off!!

Season Five tied up a lot of loose ends it there wasn't nearly as much killing as the other seasons but the excitement of the chase was still very interesting I personally think this season so A lot better then season 3 and 1 but just wasn't as up to bar as 2 and 4 but still a great season cant wait for six

Season 4 dragged out way too long. It just didn't add up: Dex missing easy opportunities to dispatch Trinity. I began to get really bored. Among the best of the season was Trinity's family; so weird. But the writers got bogged down by the endless chase and I wanted to throw my TV against the wall. Note: Everyone "has the right to diss writers who work their asses off ." It's called the "right to free speech," and "artistic differences." This can help the writers, d-ss.

Just watched the final episode, great ending showtime! I do wish Lumen had stayed though, I thought Dexter finally having someone he can confide his secrets to would help him out but I guess he isn't meant to have that kind of help....yet.
Loved how Debra let the "vigilantes" go. I knew she would. Maybe now Quinn will stop riding dexter and cut him some slack.

@CorruptedBios Me too. It's a bit itchy for me that when they introduce an intresting and potentially well developable character, they write them off by the end of the season. Don't get me wrong, Dexter's been well awarded up until now, but it's getting a bit tedious. I like how each season has a relatively new premise, but they should try writing out 2 seasons where the plot continues to the other. Kinda like Breaking Bad. I would love for them to try it. Otherwise, cant wait for season 6!

Honestly i like the relationship between luman and dexter better than rita, i think the fact dexter can be so comfortable around her is awesome, and the fact Luman knows about dexter and she sticks around and helps him is amazing them have an amazing bond :) i like them as a couple, Julia is amazing as her role :), i think their perfect and equally sick for eachother xD

OK. Here's the issue I have with the Lumen plot line: The idea that Lumen 'knows' Dexter and really SEES him is purely due to extenuating circumstances. There is nothing to suggest a growth of personalities meant for each other. The Lumen plot line could have happened with Rita--Lumen's character is uninteresting. What made Rita and Dexter's relationship interesting were the hints at her possibly POSSIBLY being able to accept him for what he did for a living...without giving it fully away.

This was a disservice to her original character and Julie Benz who had so much more to offer. and now Lumen was introduced as a nag. Always bumbling into things, refusing to leave, ALWAYS rejoicing in Dexter's use of plurals. ("You said WE!" Drives me insane. Every time.) I'll regret saying what I HOPE happens to her character, but let me just say I'd rather see Dexter hook up w/ Sam Liddy.

@littlepsyche That's false because it's not that simple. You can't design the plot line in a way that Dexter wakes up and just tells Rita he's a serial killer. Rita eventually grew into a boring character because she didn't really added to the story at all. You know, it was Dexter's wife. Full stop. How interesting.
However, Lumen is more interesting because connects with dexter step by step, and she finally knows all about him, and what he does.
So it's not really an uninteresting character.

Also, the whole thing when Dexter draws blood from Jordan's vial, and thinks he did it in a way that can't be noticed. But, it turns out he was wrong, and Jordan knows something is up. Oh, OK. To have a plot line hinge around such a dumb, arbitrary mistake is just pure laziness from the writers. It happens all the time in other shows. but Dexter's standards are usually above this sort of thing, which makes it disappointing.

I agree this season is a little sub-par, along with season 3, though even a weak season of Dexter is still pretty damn good. Julia Stiles is pretty but a quite limited actress IMO. Actually, up until episode 6 or so, I thought this season was excellent. But the writing has gotten lazy. This whole time I thought Dexter was dumping bodies 10 miles from shore; turns out he was doing it close enough that Liddy could photo him? It's totally inconsistent with the logic of the show and the character.

They have simply tweeked the show to catch more viewers, and personally i think this is by far the worst season, followed up closely by season 3. Season 1 and 4 are godly though. Hope they either get new writers or end the show with some dignity left.

I have been a Dexter fan since the first time I watched it... My boyfriend and I were actually debating on whether or not to watch this season because we were so disappointed with the last two.... But I have to say.... I love this season....The storyline is amazing... Julia Stiles is really great... I can't wait for Sunday =] This coming from a huge Rita fan... @MsEdenX This season is so much better than the last season. If you are really that obsessed with Rita, than you can watch her on Boondock Saints 2. But I prefer to watch a ever evolving Dexter who learns and grows from his mistakes. Lumen is ever improving Dexter. The intelligent observations and the feelings him and Lumen are sharing are very interesting to anyone who has ever had a girlfriend or loved a woman. Don't take this personally but you are a debbie downer. Every post has one i guess.

@sean04201 But since you mention Rita: Dexters relationsships with both Rita and Lila were more realistic. It wasn't perfect, which was the whole point. Dexter, as a psychopath, should be ambivalent and in conflict with himself (like he was in those relationsships). Yes, he wants to find love and understanding BUT at the same time he has always known that it won't work... Now that has suddenly changed and they've turned him into some "Romeo-boyfriend" which totally goes against character.

@sean04201 If you don't see the change in quality now, compared to season 4 you're beyond foolish. Season 4 had good writing and great actors. Focus was still on Dexter, as it should. John Lithgow was great and the acting between him and Michael C Hall was tv-magic. "Hello Dexter Morgan", a classic moment... You'll NEVER see something like that this season! Lumen is a bad character but Julia Stiles makes her even more boring with bad acting. That's the hard truth. Deal with it!

@MsEdenX I completely agree with you. Season 4 was incredible; Season 5 has definitely been a let down. I do not care for the character of Lumen whatsoever; in fact, I find her quite annoying. Julia Stiles does not belong on Dexter.

I happen to like Lumen on the show! I felt like Rita was really slowin down season 4. I always felt the urge to fast-forward through the rita scenes last season, lol. Lumen is cute, and is perfect for Dex cuz he can be his true self towards her when he could never do that back in the day with Rita. I love this season, and i love Lumen. I'd hate to see her get killed off. That's just me.

@pretzy2 yea I agree. Season 4 was boring because it seemed to drag on. It was exactly the same thing as season 3 cept instead of dealing with dealing with being a serial killer/ husband it was serial killer/ father and Harry telling Dexter *in his mind* that he was going to hurt them if he tried to lead this double life. He was right, Rita ended up getting murdered because of him. I love the dynamic of the story now that Lumen is with Dexter... She adds a great arc to the story line.

She's good on Dexter. I like the whole storyline, but I don't think she's going to stay. I enjoyed watching the two of them bond and was slightly disappointed when they had sex. All I could think was "Is it not possible to have a female/male relationship portrayed in television without sex?" I saw him more as her mentor, not her lover. I don't want anything bad to happen to her, though, but a suicide would be kinda cool & unexpected.

She was the one who approached him and took off his shirt and Dexter was like "oh.... alright" he was a mentor to her but she took it to the next level. But I have a feeling that She's going to end up on Dexter's table at the end of season 5... Because these writers are nothing if not predictable when it comes to the fate of their guest stars.

@poopiehead61 well, i think at first he was his mentor, but in ep 9 and 10 (especially 10), seriously, it's so obvious that he's falling for her ! the way he gets scared when she's reckless, the way he looks at her, tells her she looks perfect... it was more than just a mentor thing at the end for me... they have a great chemistry, I was really looking forward to something more

Lumen has to go. Dexter doesn't need a partner in crime, it ruins the whole concept of the show and it feels more like "Bonnie & Clyde"... The worst season so far, especially disappointing since season 4 was so good.

@ashdorado I didn't like season 3 that much either but this IS the worst season ever! Season 1,2 and 4 was the absolute best. Lumen is boring and the whole season has been very slow. Jordan Chase should have entered the show much earlier for instance, now everything happens in the last 3 episodes and that's not good IMO. The whole original creative team behind Dexter has quit the show so that explains a lot... : (
Like I said earlier, I want "Dexter" - not "Bonnie & Clyde".

You could see where it was headed with the looks Dexter was giving her. I still feel like it's too soon for Lumen to be sexing it up with someone [remember her freaking out at the airport?] but at least she was the one to initiate it, and Dexter let her, <333... awww, our boy has a crush.
Dexter's monologue at the end just confirmed that I want Julia/Lumen to come back next season.

the whole partner in crime thing is fantastic. and I knew as she would grow closer to him and also a nice built up for some sex... if she was smokin hot this woud be UN-BELIEVABLE!...but oh well she's not, I dont digg her acting as well. I really dont like Julia Stiles but Lumen's character is probably the closest thing to true love we've ever saw and will see.
My guess writers will make her stay and I have mixed feeling about it since I don't digg her personally or her looks.
