  • That pack looks new for a pack that went on a week long bakpacking trip.

  • Thanks for the advice, as a woman shopping for a backpack it's useful for me to get a woman's perspective out-of-the-store. I've had ill-fitting backpacks before - it affects every part of my body, and really makes for a painful trip. Once I knew how to find a fitting backpack, I started to love hiking. So thanks so much for your advice.

  • Good vid with some good tips, would be nice to know the size of your pack and how it fits compared to your size.

New to this also, so don't know anything about hydration sizes/weights dimensions for what size pack/person.

  • can you say no makeup= hairy armpit lesbo

  • @whatever7x7 can you say: offensive comment = troll with no life and social issues?

  • I have a jansport carson and have a 21'' torso. I like the pack BUT the top of the frame is very close to my head. Is this normal for a external frame?

I can loosen the shoulder straps to put more weight on my hips and it feels better but the pack likes to "wave" when I walk. Reason I wanted external frame was I can attach my axes and other equipment.

  • I'm just starting to get into backpacking. I have a canyon trip coming up. I have been practicing with a 26 lb pack and trek poles. I go to a state park, I hike over all sorts of land. I didn't know about the adjusting of the pack until I saw the video. What a relief that was to learn. Thank you so much.

  • so far this is the first pack fitting video that showed proper hip fitting. yeah !

  • I think this is a great little video. Good info especially for new backpackers. Thank you.

  • @Quex01 y don't u be more respectful u don't even n

  • Nice, that way she can bring lots of good food to cook from a local market.

  • Babe? Oh god.

Great video, thanks for sharing your experience and tips with us. I hadn't thought of the idea of switching between hips and upper back to give each spot a rest, great thought.

  • Babe, what bag are you using here?

  • this is Salewa ? what model ?

  • Awesome video.

  • Thanks you

  • good video

    top backpackers

  • Thank you.

  • what model is that backpack

  • @COROVICD It looks like the Arc'teryx Altra 62 (the women's version).

Backpacker was pretty fond of the the Altra.

  • As long as you don't want a response for any info on packs or sleeping bags on the Backpacker website, backpacker is a decent source of information.

  • Where u put the sleeping bag?

  • @hzhangcom i usually put the sleeping bag on the ground when i sleep.

  • great video!

i bought a used Northface pack not long ago and has used once for mountain climbing. i had been wondering what the twin straps that comes out from upper rear of packs for, now after watching this video, i know :) it's used to tie to the front sides of shoulder straps so that the pack is in balance and in place.

    thanks for the excellent demo!:)

  • This girl Kristin Hotsetter reminds me of the British actress Tilda Swinton.

  • Does color play a role in choosing a pack?

Should a beginner hiker get something brightly colored in case of a search party deployment (LOL), or stick with natural/woodsy colors to blend in?

  • @reighsierra It's all what you prefer. If a beginner feels that a brighter colored backpack may help in an emergency situation that there is no harm in buying a bright color. To answer your question, "Does color play a role in choosing a pack?" I would say it sure does. Looks shouldn't play a major role, but you do want to buy a pack that you find aesthetically appealing as well as being capable of carrying the gear that you need for your level of mountaineering.

  • Great advice on the getting the waist strap settled first. It makes a huge difference.

  • Thank you for this advice, it's very handy.

  • great video, always the most important thing is to get the correct backpack. Great information.

  • It looks like an ArcTeryx Maia 65

  • I watched your video 'Measure Your Torso Length' because you recommended it. "It's the most critical thing to know when buying a backpack" you say...

But then I wached this video and you're not saying anything about torso length, I'm lost...

How do I know my shoulder straps are too high up or too low?

    Thanks

  • thankyou. this is very good advice, very professional. It's a worthy note that the shops should supply some 'weight' to give a real feel to the rucksack as it would be loaded. thanx . :)

  • Anyone know what pack she was using in the video?

  • Nothing like travelling light! Wtf would you be carrying in that behemoth? Max I'll carry is a 35 litre bag, any more and it just ain't fun.

  • excellent video .

    cheers

  • Some packs are designed especially for women. No not because they are pink, but because of the shape.

I find the best way to be comfortable is to NOT over load it. Take 2/3s of your max comfortable weight. Replace gear with knowledge. "Fill your head, not your backpack."

  • Viva La Revolucion, Ron Paul 2012!! -TX

  • Thanks

  • Nice video. Thanks.

  • Backpacking Goddess!

  • @GrailcodeDotNet

Son you have one hell of a bad taste.

  • @agun17

Really? Kid, you're almost young enough to be MY son, and good thing you're not.

  • @GrailcodeDotNet

    It's complicated.

  • @GrailcodeDotNet

You are also missing the point.

  • @agun17

Oh, the one at the top of your head, yeah, no, didn't miss that either, son!

  • i am new to backpacks thier is alot of adjustments you can spend alot of time getting it just right....every backpack fits different ...everyone's body is different thiers no way to give tips ...you have to try them all

  • Great video sweet heart I'm so sorry that people are being so negative toward your good advice on tips while on their hiking adventures in the wildernest. who is perfect please buy all means let me know. hiker Lou. great video.

  • Thank you - good advice.

  • ask Jason Stevenson

  • I find if I pack all my heavy items first so there in the bottom off my pack and my light items up the top,my centre of gravity is lower making it harder to lose balance.

  • Good useful video. The pack she is sporting is an Arc'terx. Very pricey!! but overall a good pack

  • so , should the bacvk length of my back pack be the same as my torso length?

  • Wtf is she taking in that sack, its huge, looks far too big for her, i have a 50ltr sack and can fit my Mat, bag, tent, waterproofs, change of underware and socks, stove and cooking equp, 2ltr hydro blader and other aparell

She must be going to the north pole, or gearing up for the next world war or something

  • Please could you do a video on how to pack a backpack? There are a couple of nonsense vids on this site.

  • Its suppose to help people who dont know. come on Aircraft you cant be that stupid the video says what its about "fit a backpack right" What the heck were you expecting

  • I was just expecting a little better tips. That is all.

  • What kind of pack is that? How do you attach a ground mat (like thermarest) or sleeping bag to it? I have a buttpack I would prefer to bring along to keep on me at all times but that pack (compared to an alice pack) would not be compatible... :o(

  • exactly...
