Remind me not to buy from you. The Five Crowns on Desbeth in most books and at most record shows is only valued at $300-$500. I don't know who sets your prices but they should go back to school and learn how to price records.
oldcaddy1, thank you so much, this is exactly what I was looking for and it is wonderful to hear it again. Sounds like you have your son on the right track for great music and great memories; I wish you both excellent health and many Happy Days.
Gimmee a break 8 grand for that --- no way ! When I sold my collection, more than a few years ago, I was told by someone who should know that there were only a dozen or so collectors around who would pay more than a couple of hundred dollars for a 45RPM 50s-60s group record. It turned out to be true. I did well, but even though I advertised in Goldmine, I sold about 90% of my stuff to about 10-12 collectors. Unless there's been some kind of resurgence, I just don't see it.
I've been looking for a late 50's song but don't recall name or group but it goes something like this:
10 o'clock, 10:30; 11 o'clock, 11:30; cerfue time ........night owl strolling down the street about the break day; mama told you once before don't come in late no moe....
can anyone help identify and send me the group or actual name? Would appreciate it very much. Thank you.
@golfmt08 the song you are looking for is called night owl by gene chandler '' the duke''. great song, im only 28 but i grew up with this music and now my son does too.
I had a 45 copy of the Moonglows "I Just Can't Tell No Lie" on the Champagne label in 1997. At the time, I didn't know if it was a bootleg copy or not. It was really rough playing and had small bumps on the vinyl. I talked to a fellow record guy and he offered to buy it from me not knowing if it was a fake either for $200. I sold it to him because I only paid about 50 cents for it so I made my profit. My question is, does anyone know of bootlegs of this record ?
@Mrfunkyfilmore I have a boot of that particular record. If it just has the label name and number scratched on the plastic between the label and grooves it's a boot. The original should have the master number usually 4 to 5 numbers sometimes with the label name. Be advised that the earlier boots also had this.
@hxo20292 Correct! I've seen $500 records sell for a $100 and $25 records sell for a $100 It all depends who wants it and how many are bidding at the same time. Ebay is loaded with $15 - $25 book price records that won't sell for $5 and under. I bought some nice rare records from ebay for real cheap money. I have records that book out at a $100, Ebay has many of the same for $10-$15 that don't sell. So I agree, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay and when.
i dont give a crap about value due to these things...well not money value. i have a few rare games for my megadrive....i dont care about using them. why have them if your not gonna use them? the rarity feels good, but playing it feels better
Rbx, I have it on the yellow and black Guyden. The purple and silver label you're talking about is the 2nd press. I'll post both sides when I get a chance.
Rbx, I agree that the Parkway version of When You Dance is terrible. Did you ever flip it over, though? The B-Side is a beautiful ballad called Golden Rings. Check it out if you still have the record. They were the same Turbans by the way.
I was told The Elvis Good Luck Charm record in a rare red vinyl is worth more then any other record. One went for $35,000. Heard this on the radio from a dealer.
If a copy of Stormy Weather by The Five Sharps ever showed up on a legitimate 45 it would sell for more than any other record has ever sold. I remember hearing about this record having a $50,000 worth when I started collecting in the early 90's. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it went for more than that... All the high profile collectors want it because it's the world's rarest commercially released record. Of course this is all hypothetical and I don't think it was ever pressed on 45.
Do you have "Teenage Rose" by Vic Donna & the Parrotkeets on Atlas Label? We are still around singing and doing our thing Vic is in Vages and I'm in New York
thats great, always wonderded about if anyone collected those 45's. Back in NJ a record collector and promotor put shows on he would try to get all artist from labels "one hit onders" on his show he put together a cd of all artist he found from that label...his name Was Roni I's passed on recently. He kept the music of the 50's going
Nicky, Vic bounces between Vegas and NJ. He only lives 20 minutes from me. One of these days you should drive out to NJ and come to our singer's meetup.
I think this was demo, not for sale. Do you have any records on Amy Label? if you do, have you got "Wonderful Girl" by the Carribeans? I recorded it in 1962 with Amy Records
