Anybody else notice that the song playing is Behind Blue Eyes by Sheryl Crow? If you remember, jaynie said that "one time I walked in on him with a Sheryl Crow wannabe and I just freaked." Love how this show does little things like that. Best show on TV, can't wait for season 5!
In the end, that's what this show is about: "There is no life without love. None worth having anyway." From the moment I heard that line, it stayed in my head until this very moment. Fuckin' truth.
Could you imagine californication with Lew in all the episodes.....it could have been the greatest show in history...haha.....Lew could of had his own show!!! maybe they should do a prequel kinda series where it shows Lew and his life in the years leading up to his death....that would be awesome!!
This is one of my favorite scenes of all time. He shouldn't die. I have to admit. I shared some tears losing good friend. He was Hank's best friend character.... Great scene.
Ashby was my favourite character:( He was like me:D partying all time, having fun with girls, but lost the ONLY one who matters:D shit... i will end like Ashby???
@lawsmich587 That was the intent. The episode in which he meets Ashby is called "The Great Ashby" and the fact that he throws "great parties" is also brought up...
Who does sing that song? It's lovely! I like the who version, but this makes me cry every time i listen it... Poor Lew... I'll miss you... There is no life without love!
true to his character - his death captivated us in a way NOTHING else in the series could hope to, spare the Mia plot - and even then, he found a way into it ;)
PS, It wasn't coke that killed him, anyone who knows anything about drugs or just the human body, knows that that small amount of coke can not kill someone. It was heroin, remember when he put the heroin in his pocket earlier and put it next to the coke? Well he pulled out the heroin thinking it was coke and did a huge line, the mix with the coke he did earlier, Coke speeds the heart up, Heroin slows it down, speedball effect the heart is pulled in both directions and then it stops.
And no funeral scene. Sorry again but it was the season finale, and they only get a half hour to wrap up the season, would it have been remotely satisfying if the whole finale was a show about Ashby's funeral? Think about it how much of the plot would be just left unresolved.
Jesus people he didn't really die, one would think so from all these eulogy-ish comments. And for everyone sad that the character is gone, it was pretty clear all season that he was a character created for the purposes of season 2's theme, just like hank's 3 ho's in season 3, I'm sorry but what would his purpose on the show be after the biography was finished? It's not like Hank would want to keep him anywhere near Karen longer than needed..
I felt so bad for the guy when i was high as shit, he finally gets a second chance with the love he lost. and that little bit o' blow blows it to shit :(... but yeah best character to the season so far although i was really wanted an episode where Hank kinda spirals into a Moody depression for an episode.
Lew Ashby was the best character in all three Californication series OFC the second is Hank himself. It's fucking waste that he died in that moment and in that awfully stupid way. RIP Ashby and be your autobiografy published already! :P
@bobivd6688 I agree. I know someone who's exactly like Lew, only the hair colour and age are different, that's why it's sad to see the guy go. I started to watch this show when Ashby arrived and got hooked to it immediately. Lew Ashby is the best character in this show by far.
I just watched this episode, and it's the most emotional moment for me in this series :/. too bad we won't see him anymore, he was the other fun version of hank moody.
Thanks tips, I wouldn't have a problem paying for it but the only option I can find is buying the entire second season soundtrack of californication, which I don't particularly want to do. So 'motherfucker' I don't really see what your problem with my question was, and unless you had a real answer I think it would have been best that you didn't reply at all.
What is strange is the fact that in this "pen", he had in his pocket, was probably adrenaline for anafilectic shock he would get from allergy. It should have helped him with overdose too. By the way, people don't die so quickly from overdose :P
Lew was such a great character, a total degenerate, maybe, but extremely lovable all the same. CKR's sensitivity and skill never let us forget Lew's loneliness and sadness behind all the rock 'n' roll bravado, that he seemed to have everything, while being well aware he had nothing at all. Brilliant stuff! The Great Ashby will be sorely missed.
the next scene is even better...with hank finishing the bio and kicking back with a joint and whiskey...on warren zevon. worth it all !
