tommorow i pick up my bearings iam a lil nervious but oh well it blows it blows lol i didnt find no bearing like if it desinigrated wierd but should i replace all or just that one ? thanks and be safe its a 2000 intrepid 2.7
@cruz4me Replace them all..clean up the kncking one as best as you can...you should put a oversized bearing in where the bearing failed..use synthetic oil..i got a few months out of mine before it came back.. good luck, and hey keep me posted, I was always into the 2.7L stuff...Let me know
@905speedgta ive seen your vids on the cars and what im hearing in mine is much much louder, i mean it sounds like its goin to throw the rod any minute. in your opinion, would you sell as is or take the chance on fixing it? and what other things might be bad or broke in that area?
@20CJH I got mine from Advanced autoparts.. do yourself a favor. you may have to get oversized bearings..take a micrometer and measure the cap and the part of the crank that had the rod knock.. I think if I would of done it that way id still have the car today. let me know how it turns out
@20CJH Even though it is one I would replace all of them.. Just saying because eventually you are going to have another spun bearing, might as well repair it while it is in the open.
Two things. First, if the bearings spin and the oil pressure drops to 0 you are in trouble - the timing chain tensioner is fed by oil pressure! No timing chain tension = skipped timing chain = bent valves = motor is TOAST even if you replace the bearings. How many miles is on this motor in the video?
I think that oil leaks might be the problem, I don't think my moms would have spun at all if it hadn't ran out of oil. Every bearing shriveled and each half looked like a C, I was like I'll never save this one but please just let me try it. So glad I didn't have to replace the motor. I would say her car needs a quart at most every 2 or 3 months. What else is wrong with the 2.7s? And how can you put a 3.5 in a Sebring if the engines are turned different ways? Do they use same tranny bolt patern?
Hey Guy's I'm having same problem but I can't get the baff off to the eng how did you break it off with out mess up the block I had 2 rounded bolt and nothing worked where did you pry to break it off Help or am I miss othea bolts
I was driving a 01 Sebring and it ran out of oil from a leak and spun ALL 6 bearings.. There was scratches on the crank journals. I replaced them all with stock size bearings and it has been working for about 2 years now. Oil light comes on when it warms up at idle only. Now it just burns oil slowly because I would assume the rings got damaged. Oil pan gasket was bad, when I replaced it with the new bearings it stopped leaking oil. Good engine I'd say to stay running after all 6 spun.
@Dumbass351 - Yeah that sounds good. I wish Mine lasted that long. They are really nice cars. You can find alot of them in peoples yards or in junkyards and im sure you knwo what they are there for.. the 2.7L failure. If I had the funding, I would get another sebring, and convert it to a 3.5L from a chrysler 300m..Maybe someday
Well even if it was spun you can still use the motor. Just buy a crank kit and have the heads and block taken in and they will boil them and do everything that needs done for you to rebuild the engine.

A rubber yoga mat works wonders on a frozen garage floor! I use them on the fenders, too, to guard against scratches.

That sludge on the pan bottom tells of poor oil circulation design problems in these engines...

those engines are a pile of shit! also the "Golden" tint on the internals is a VERY bad sign.

JpJustSayin 1 year ago
@JpJustSayin the 2.7s fail because of a faulty design in the low pressure side of the oiling system. (Not a leak)
there just awful engines, imo
