This woman is amazing! I heard her first in May in Leipzig in Mahlers 2. Symphony and thought her voice just fits perfect for Mahler. But now I'm realizing she can sing anything up to perfection.

As a young countertenor, I went to see Bejun Mehta in Ariodante at NYCO in 1999...little did I know the biggest treat of the evening would be Ms Sarah Connolly...I took a hiatus and am studying again and Ms Connolly even had the graciousness to email me back when I asked her for advice. She is such a direct and warm person, both in normal regular life and on stage through her wonderful artistry!Favorite and best mezzos around today are: Connolly, von Otter, Kirchschlager, and Kristine Jepson!

I like this! Original & played with good taste...It is only my opinion but I think she is even better in this role than David Daniels!

Heh, I just happen to agree with your opinion here. Have seen and heard both Daniels (live) and Connolly (recorded on this DVD), and I really, really prefer Connolly as Cesare - the best there is to date, I think.

Flies in the face of people saying that mezzos don't have the same presence or ability to present these trouser roles. I am amazed every time I watch these extracts.

But remember that this is a very different role. Sarah Connolly is simply exquisite in her portrayal of a mature man, but a very young one like Oktavian might not work so well.
