There was a treaty between Muslims and idol worshipers, idol worshipers countermanded it and killed some Muslims during Sacred Months. This verse spoke about that in particular.

Just by flicking to chapter nine I've come across numerous accounts where the quran encourages to fight disbelievers and how allah punishes through the hands of his followers.

You didn't answer my question; can you (yourself) stand waiting to be killed without resistance even if you have the ability to defend your self? Can any human do that? Can imagine the answer you will receive if you ask any one to do that?
During battle you have choices, the rightful choice is just the harder one and I don't know what I would chose if faced with it. If I was a faithful christian (which I'm not) I would follow the word of my lord and submit to his will and die because my faith would not allow me to kill. I'd happily await the kingdom of my lord. If I was a muslim I would go and fight because my lord would expect that of me. Does that answer the question?

Just to answer your question regarding who would not chose to fight back: it's basically those who are called innocent civilians and they usually end up raped, violated or dead.
Muslims are not allowed to harm innocent civilians under any condition; however they are allowed to defend themselves if they can. Still innocent civilians don't choose death as you suggest.

qu'ran [9:5] gives permission to kill under certain circumstances. you stated in this case that it should be read in context but giving it justification doesn't make it less of a killing it only attempts to justify it.

a life taken is a life taken. as far as i know the bible there is a clear rule: you must not kill (6th commandment). that basically rules out any form of life taking by human hand and thus war (mud wrestling, snowball fights and flower handing is ok though). similar statements also come from hinduism and buddhism. this means that every christian or jew involved in live taking is automatically as sinner and doomed. but since humans are generally pretty violent (as opposed to other mammals)

There was a treaty between Muslims and idol worshipers, idol worshipers countermanded it and killed some Muslims during Sacred Months. This verse spoke about that in particular.
[9:5] Once the Sacred Months are past, (and they refuse peace) you may kill the idol worshipers when you encounter them, punish them, and resist every move they make. If they repent and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), you shall let them go. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

During battle you have choices, the rightful choice is just the harder one and I don't know what I would chose if faced with it. If I was a faithful christian (which I'm not) I would follow the word of my lord and submit to his will and die because my faith would not allow me to kill. I'd happily await the kingdom of my lord. If I was a muslim I would go and fight because my lord would expect that of me. Does that answer the question?

a life taken is a life taken. as far as i know the bible there is a clear rule: you must not kill (6th commandment). that basically rules out any form of life taking by human hand and thus war (mud wrestling, snowball fights and flower handing is ok though). similar statements also come from hinduism and buddhism. this means that every christian or jew involved in live taking is automatically as sinner and doomed. but since humans are generally pretty violent (as opposed to other mammals)
