  • i am right handed but when the ball comes down the left side, i quickly put the racquet in my other hand to avoid having to use my backhand. i play on a 60x30 court so i have plenty of time to do this. this has made my left hand equally as good as my right. i win the majority of games i play but is it bad that i do this? i dont see any problem

  • @mflatley100 I believe it is a rule that if you change holding hands during a rally it is an istant loss of that rally for you

  • @mflatley100 I believe it is a rule that if you change holding hands during a rally it is an istant loss of that rally for you

  • @mflatley100 lol.. u will never get pass the D division. the only thing you should be switching is your grip from forehand to backhand.

  • @mflatley100 It is illegal to switch the racquet between hands during play. Also, it is required by rule to wear the wrist strap. Of course you can do whatever you want during informal/casual play as long as your opponent doesn't care.

  • @mflatley100 Yeah, play like a real man......Because you're not good enough to hit a back hand? That's cheating, ACTUALLY more ineffective, and shows you have no heart to practice or become good with your back hand... Also, once you practice you will most likely see you can play better. In fact, your back hand might end up even better then your forehand. I practice so much back hand that my back hand is actually better now...If I get a chance for a kill shot, I roll it out almost every time

  • What about when the ball is behind you or not in your hitting zone?

  • Dang now i have to watch a video on how to throw a frisbee first

  • haha.. well.. when you start playing at the A level, that .2 seconds it takes to switch your grip will cost you the point 7/10 times. The player who can hit a solid and accurate backhand shot from his forehand grip is truly great.

  • remember John candy in splash

  • guy reminds me of tony romo.

  • I hear a lot people say that tennis is better than racquetball, but I no sport is superior to another. In fact, roger federer arguably the greatest tennis play of all time, uses squash and racquetball techniques in some of his shots.

  • you should wear your googles

  • Yeah you should switch your grip when hitting backhand. If you don't you're not using all your potential power and control.

  • one day.... and it will be soon. i am going to find MEDICAL CENTER DRIVE. And play him in racquetball, if he doesn't already have some sort of shoulder trouble or rotator cuff injury, he will.

  • @rawbeehive he'd kill ya.

  • yeah> a real 'pussy' sport. ball moving at over 150 mph, fast pace. you know what maybe you feel that large men in pads slamming eachother like barbarians is much more macho. you sound over weight and generally unhappy because you could not perform a sport that requires any motion other than breaking your fall into a large group of men. tool

  • @FELIKS2121 ....faggot?....is this why you had to watch the video to try and solicit some same sex love or are you just wanting to experiment....get a life punk

  • its hard to pay attention to what he said. he's gorgeous

  • so if you follow through to say 1'oclock,2 oclock, or even 3 oclock....and I am in good position next to you and the ball has left your racket and its my tur when I go for the ball I have to MMA dodge your wild swing then run into some part of yor body (if I havent been knocked out yet, by yor back swing!) just to try and play with you> LOL That's fair LOl!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's annoying playing people with a swing as long as a helicopter blade! lol But it IS your responsibility to give them room, and unfortunately if you get hit by someone else's follow through it's your own fault.

  • There's no reason whatsoever you should have to use such a western grip for a backhand...I think he exaggerated it for the purpose of example.

  • If you're gripping the racquet with your pinky finger off of the end of the grip or close to the end, there is no need if your racquet is perpendicular to the floor. Do you really think that the pros are switching their grip every time that they take a backhand swing? With your comments, you'd better walk the walk son.

  • I don't think the pros switch grip every shot.. I KNOW they do. It's bio-mechanically impossible to hit a proper backhand without changing your grip. If it wasn't important they wouldn't teach "you must switch grip" at every beginning clinic or lessons. My coach is Rocky's coach.. yeah I walk the walk. ---- Thanks for answering my original question.

  • GRIP is key. Like I've already said, if you have your PINKY finger off of the end, you shouldn't have to change your grip....keep on truckin' and wasting valuable time "switching" to your backhand. If you're an A or an open player, I'll still keep you honest and yes I'll serve to your forehand since your backhand is just too fast.

  • Post of a video of your backhand swing with your "non-switched" grip. It would be interesting to see. I play regularly with A-players. I myself am low-C. I know, just like helianimal, that you must switch your grip.

  • you dont always have to switch your grip with every shot. if you're a good player you basically have 2-3 different grips the first two are probably your forehand and backhand grips. the last is probly gonna be a slam grip or something for pure power that is useful for any type of ball that needs to be put away for me i have a few more grips than normal racquetball players because i also partake in tennis and ping-pong the information i have presented to you is from tournament pros giving me tips

  • ROFL... a "Slam Grip".. I'll have to practice that one. And also a ping-pong grip! Judging by your page long sentence and spelling, I'm guess you're around 14 years old and probably suck at all 3 sports. Who are these "tournament pro's"? I'll ask Shane Vanderson how many grips he has when I see him in a few weeks.

  • just some advice: name dropping makes me guess you're around 14 years old and probably suck at all 3 sports.

  • You writing me to me? I only play racquetball.

I went to an advanced camp Shane and Mitch Williams taught. I met him through a mutual friend. I'm not dropping names, you can go to a camp too! lol I talked to both of them about correct grip. Cigar said "Pros told him don't change grip" I asked who he's talking about, he doesn't want to back it up! I did & every pro has a forehand & backhand grip, that's from the source.

Do I suck? Maybe. You can look at my videos and judge yourself.

  • search "How to Hit Backhand" John Ellis. He's a pro telling you to change your grip for a backhand.. but I'm sure he doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • @redshaftedflicker "NEVER switch your grip if possible" biggest newb racquetball statement i've ever heard. racquetball isn't the same as masturbating buddy. stick to what you know.

  • go ahead an take pot shots--you'll never figure out how to develop a great backhand w/o switching your grip by doing so--just keep on swinging your racquet like you're hammering nails--you're way ahead of the game buddy, nice try.

  • @redshaftedflicker it's obvious you know nothing about racquetballl. stop it, for your own sake.

  • @Fernandez218 you'e abslutely correct--kane isn't even in your league, i'm sure you're kicking everyone's ass using te sole of your shoe. you rule

  • @redshaftedflicker wtf does Kane have to do with anything? we, or at least I was, talking about switching grip between forehand and backhand.

Switching is required. End of discussion. Post a video of something contradicting what is widely known or stop posting nonsense that makes you complete your well-rounded stupidity.

  • great videos...

  • Great instruction. As U get better on the backhand U will be able 2 change the postition of the racquet head 2 change how the ball reacts when U hit it . There are times that rather than have my racquet being parallel with the ground as I swing that I will have my racquet handle pointing straight up & all positions inbetween. The strength in your hand & wrist can also determine how U hit the backhand too as there are some folks that can simply "flick" their wrist 2 return a winner.

  • Best racquetball instruction videos on the net. Gets down to business right away---no wasted time! Fran built the dream house, but this guy is building the Taj Mahal!!

  • Good videos.. thanks from a beginner!
