  • Germans are amazing people but nobody seems to care about the overwhelmingly positive aspects of German culture and intellectual thought. The legacy of Nazism has blinded people to how truly great the German people are under the surface.

  • @joaodaldegan haha xD;D

  • Tis music isnt illegal in germany. Only one part of the text is illegal but not the melodie. Wenn du keine Ahnung hast schreib keine Kommentare.

Translate this from german into english.

  • no part is illegal...but only the third part is the official anthem..

  • You forgot Kant!

  • Sry, but the anthems melody was composed in Hungaria and covered by an Austrian (Haydn) composer for the "Kaiserhymne" the old Austrian Hymn. The British anthem "God save the Queen/King" was build up in a way like this. The original meody was for the "Heil dir im Siegerkranz".

Regarding to the Lyrics of the german anthem, I do belive it's one of the best ever written for a country, and by the way, von Fallersleben was writing this as a drink/beer song for the workingclass.

    Cheers everyone ;-)

  • The old discussion again :(

They were all Germans! Holy Roman Empire of German Nation! Same roots, same language, same culture, same Land- different territories...

  • Danke!

  • Hitler was an Austrian =)

  • owned ;D

  • @dopaminjunky

    - What is Austria? An accident of history & seperated from german homeland due to the "Kleindeutsche Loesung" after Austerlitz (1st) & disaster caused by austrian/german "AH" after WWII (2nd).

Austrian Language & culture is not only "german" but "bavarian" which derived both from the same old german bajuwarian tribe.

Austrians, Swiss Germans, most of the Dutch, Luxembians, Lichtenstein & 1/2 of Belgians tend to forget where their cultural roots are coming from!

  • Litte correction here:

Austerlitz was against Napoleon. It was actually the "Battle of Koeniggraetz" which lead to the german unification without Austria-Hungary! ,-)

  • does anyone know the writer of this song? its so beautiful!

  • It is from Joseph Haydn, an austrian Composer.

  • I'm suprised Karl Marx wasn't included in that.

  • Germany great country, always I have admired this country ,greetings from a mexican guy !!! Germany forever !!! VIVA ALEMANIA!!!

  • Thank you sir! Now I can associate the good historical figures in Germany when I hear this song. Especially Martin Luther :)

  • I always had thought Einstein was from a neighboring country, oh well.

  • actually, Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany and then moved with his parents to switzerland later.
