Another Vegas landmark bit the dust. I moved out of Vegas in 1997 and haven't been back since. Don't even TRY to find a sense of history there...it doesn't exist.
@wgegan even if your right, we are in a economic crisis here and we're not getting enough tourism, plus we need to upgrade our hotels, think of City Center. StarDust was built in 1959 and a good long 48 years in Vegas.
You can visit the StarDust at the NeonBoneYard 821 Las Vegas Blvd N. 89101. Go there they have sighns that date back to the 30's
I still have a badge(closing team pass from 2007). I worked with a bunch of guys loading up trucks with furniture, pictures, artwork, etc. Sad to see the Stardust go. It was the first place I stayed back in 2000...My wife and I were on the 27th floor...what a great panoramic view of the strip and surrounding mountains to the south and east....I will never forget it!!!
What about the marquee??? The Stardust sign is an image of the nuclear bomb tests in the desert. Word has it that it will be saved, but man what a loss. To watch this place being dismantled is like watching the scene in Animal House where the Delta Frat place was torn apart and John Belushis facial expressions.
the very 1st time i ever went to Las Vegas I stayed in the Stardust hotel. In fact I was in Las Vegas just a few days ago and I saw the Stardust hotel. All the windows were GONE i could see right through the building. It was a nice hotel and it kills me to see them tear it up. Just a few days ago was probably the last time I ever saw the Stardust hotel. I will maybe never see that hotel again. I'm gonna miss that place. :(
....i have no words man...vegas will be going down in history if they continue taking down the classic hotels and casinos....if Circus Circus is going down i'm gonna my sorry ass over there and protest. cause me and probably other people are tired of seeing the classic icons of vegas being taken down. well....idk I 'm gonna miss the Stardust. =[
No kidding! And now the new Echelon i heard is not even being built for now. Pushed back 3 - 5 years. It's almost as if they tore it down for nothing. But i guess they couldn't foresee the economy we got now.
