@skadiyoko No the player's name is Gold, rival is Silver, and the female is Crystal. They're all named after the games. It doesn't matter what version your playing those are the characters. If you notice the first versions for each region is the default name for the male protagonist. Red, Gold, Diamond, and Black.

Gah, this is why I use my own names. Like on my SS I'm Basch (because I don't like teh girl), and Switzerland is AWESOME! (not as awesome as Prussia, mind you, but Gilbert's my rival. >:D). @skadiyoko Well actualy this is from the manga the real video game names are Jimmy/Hibiki - male protagonist and female is Kotone/Lyra (original girl was Marina but they replaced her) and the Rival has no name so everyone calls him Silver because of the manga. Someone said at some point it mentions the rival is Giovanni's son, but I haven't seen that yet. That is actually a fact in the manga though.

In the game you had to get a special celebi that nintendo gave out at an event. At the shrine in Ilex it unlocks a scene where you got to see Silver's back story a little bit and it confirmed the whole Giovanni being Silver's father thing.

I just like referring the video game characters as their manga names since the manga loosely follows the storyline from the games.
