I lose my iPhone like that all the time, that's why I enabled iCloud/Find My iPhone on it, that way i can go to the iCloud website on my laptop and GPS it and if it's in my house(which it always is) I make it play a sound and it will make that sound even if it's on silent :D just a suggestion. I never turn my phone off though, if it's turned off this won't work.
