  • jimmy vaughn is one of the greatest guitar players and he does a mean jimmy reed 1st position harmonica playing . great voice too . he has an ear for that old stuff and new too.

  • I saw them a few times, but they were by far the best early on (1980). He is one of the best blues guitarists of all time IMO. To this day I can listen to him more than SRV.

One time in '85 I took some friends to see them who didn't listen to blues and as JLV was walking by I told a girl "that's Stevie Ray Vaughan's" brother" and he turned around and stared right in my face. Pissed off. If it had been Austin and not Toronto he would've punched me in the face.

  • doyle sure has a LOT of hair there. ;-)

  • Jimmieeeeeeeeeeee !!!!

  • Are there any other live videos like this with doyle bramhall II and the band?.Like this being the last any of his firs show with them,or some near the start even?.

  • Sure wish the Fab T-Birds would put together a reunion tour with all the original members, of course. Would definitely pay to see that!

  • i'll bet Doyle Jr. learned the most ever on the tours with JV.

  • JV is, always was, and always will be the real deal in my book, case closed. Next!

  • @ROSEAUBREY Jimmie's so humble, too if you meet him

  • Sure wasn't to Stevie in the 70s. According to this book Im reading, Jimmie was entirely jealous of Stevie up coming talent.

Granted, thats when they were in their late teens and early twenties. Jimmie had the the adolescence excuse.

Caught In The Crossfire. Great bio of SRV. Read it. Great book.

  • Reading that book right now Joe! i'm about through the first 100 pages. You know what I did?? I started to underline names of old bands that were mentioned in the early chapters. Then I went on you tube and HOLY SHIT! people are posting some of these bands that Stevie was checking out in his teenage years. Bands and people like the Texas Tornadoes, Sir Douglas Quintet. Denny Freeman- who was his mentor. Doug Sahm who i was so impressed that I found his CD on ebay and ordered it the other day!

  • I read it. Way back. Jimmie's got it, Stevie's got it. DIfferent ways. Sho'n'uff I think Jimmie got jelaous, but without Jimmie, Stevie would be nothing. Think about that.

  • @Texusify

Without Jimmie Stevie would be nothing? Maybe it would have taken a couple more years to make the scene, but that is simply a load of fucking bullshit.

  • @Carthsgtr

I know, but that's pretty much what Stevie said...he loved his brother.

  • @Texusify

Fair enough. But of course he is going to regard him highly because he loves the guy. He is certainly not going to say "he sucks compared to me".

  • @Carthsgtr one nite at nicks uptown both stevie and jimmie were playin , i said to stevie man your fixin to blow the t-birds off the stage , he really got offended by my remark , even a little mad , he was very touchy on this subject , i felt bad for even sayin anything about this at all

  • Well I met both of them in '91 (pretty much the lineup you see here) when my band opened for them in Auckland, NZ. I found Kim to be great to deal with - real friendly. Jimmie was a total a**hole to us. Huge disappointment to me as he is my fave blues guitar player of the new school....

  • Yeah, I was a huge JLV fan in the early 80s. One time in a bar he was walking past us and I told a girl I was with that he was SRV's bro and he turned around and just stood there and stared at me like he was gonna punch my lights out.

I think he had major chips on both shoulders.

Still love his early stuff, but he's lost it now.

  • Never met Jimmie, but Kim was a nice surprise when I met him in the line for the rest room in Austin :-)

  • @Texusify sounds gayish-LOL

  • But that's just it, we don't know exactly why Jimmie left. Maybe we should take a leaf out of his book and keep a dignified silence about it all instead of mouthing off all over the place.

  • He left the Thunderbirds and did the family style albem with stevie, after SRV died Jimmie started a solo career. After he left the band they were never the same and they have been trying to fill his shoes ever since. If I had to guess thats a good reason to carry a chip on you shoulder.

  • can someone tell me the real reason why Jimmie and Kim don't get along?!!!...

  • Pretty much because Kim is a fucking prick who thinks himself cool and Jimmie is laid back and actually happens to be cool.

  • I LOVE harp and think Kim is an amazing player - I'm a huge fan of his. With that said, I really suspect you're right. I mean, damn, how many guitarists have run in an out of the T'Birds over the past 5 years alone. I suspect he's an insufferable prick to work with.

  • Scotty is this on the list you gave me?

  • nobody plays like this any more

  • no way! is that doyle bramhall II? whats going on with his hair? still awesome though!!!

  • I could not believe in my eyes when I saw this Thunderbirds with DBII rare post. Thanx for this awesome images. Keep the faith!!!

  • Awesome stuff. Jimmi and Doyle rock!

  • Awesome stuff!

  • Nice solo, Doyle~ ;)

  • CRAWL!!!!!!!!!!
