I never heard the English version before until now. While it's beautiful too and I enjoy hearing the translation from her mouth, the Spanish version, in my opinion, delivers a more powerful, confident hypnotic sway, a seductive dance to the ears and it flows with the beauty of the Arabic language a lot better 'cause it matches the pace of something forbidden yet holy that one can't help but want. Loved it as a child, love it more now. Geez, eargasm fits well with this! I wanna marry this song.

One time my arab (christian) schoolmate saw a passage of the koran/coran/qur'an that i was reading and he tried to read it too. He said that it's not arabic...of course the koran is in arabic! But classical arabic is not like modern standard arabic at all. It has to be studied in depth in order to be understood, even by native-born arabs.

example: it's like somebody from modern England or the US trying to read Shakespeare without any prior knowledge of the language.

P.S. i forgot to say that even modern standard arabic is something that arabs have to learn and study in school.....because each region has its own dialect. so if someone has never formally studied proper arabic and only speak an egyptian or a syrian dialect, then the arabic lyrics in shakira's song might not sound like what they're used to.
