@lewisgiles Phil is insuring a bet beat, in this case if he loses because Laak hits a Jack despite being dominated preflop. These players know for almost every showdown hand the percentages you see besides the cards. So Hellmuth knows he´s about 70 to 25 favourite in the hand, the rest would be split pot. He insures against losing and gives the person who takes the bet some juice, which means that he will pay them a bit more then the percentage say.
