i went to an armenian school i was always taught that my decision is what ultimately saves me. then i picked up a bible tract by a.w. pink on the doctrine of election. i wanted to see the few verses he would be taking out of scripture to come up with this election business. when i finished, FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION, THAT'S ALL I SAW!! but only the Holy Spirit can open you heart to accept these precious "doctrines of grace". my prayer for you is that He will in due time.

So in scripture you see, Man is good enough to choose God, God called the good people who would choose Him, That Christ died for the sins of every man yet some are still going to hell. That man has the strength to resist God, when God wants a man to be saved, He cant' save them if man doesn't want to. And that although salvation is a free gift we can lose it? Christ only died for the elect, He lays down His life for His sheep. Man cannot resist the effectual call of the Holy Spirit. When God chooses a man, that man will be saved. And God will finish what He started. No one can lose salvation, God will bring it to completion.
There will be Calvinists in heaven for "as many as were ordained to eternal life believed." (Acts 13:48b) You want your promises? Here is one: "And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified." (Rom 8:30)
But you know what? There will be great many Arminians in heaven, for in Christ Jesus neither Calvinism nor Arminianism counts for anything, but only faith working through love! (cf. Gal 5:6)
first off John piper is not a Calvanist he does share in the belief of the doctrine of election which is Biblical. Also the point of election is so grey one could get lost in minutia trying to argue for or against it. Truth be told, he believes and preaches the one key piece of the Gospel Christ Crucified bottom line. Even Paul stated that it mattered not what a mans reasoning as long as he preaches Christ. As an aside I've never heard someone spend so much time on the word brethren in a sermon.

What is this guy talking about? Calvinism hinches on grace. It is all about God's grace as founded in scripture. John Piper is one of the most biblical Christ centered preacher of our day. He doesn't believe you can lose your salvation. This guy is a complete fool. He is denouncing the doctrines of not only these modern calvinist, but of Martin Luther, Augistine, Calvin, Charles Spurgeon, John Owen and many more greats that shaped Christianity. Arminianism: Making the sovereign will of God subordinate to the "free will" of man, and offering a Christ who cannot save except by the the will of man. In Arminianism, mans will is preeminent.
But the scriptures tell us that man is an utterly depraved enemy of God, dead in sins and transgressions, unable and unwilling to come to God without the grace of God. And Christ is a perfect savior who saves to the uttermost those who are being saved.

What I love about my calvinist church is that my preacher preaches the gospel and grace and doesn't listen to the radio or read books to find material to emotionally stir the congregation to anger.
@glorytoyahweh1 I believe in the Bible in it's entirety and I believe that Calvinism is congruent with the Word of God. If anyone ever concretely proves to me otherwise, then of course I would renounce this doctrine.
However when I read my Bible in it's entirety, my faith and my beliefs (as outlined in the five points of Calvinism or the Canons of Dort) are affirmed. Just look at the Bible texts @875309100 brought out... and so no, I don't believe Calvinism is a false doctrine...
@875309100 yes i agree, heresy is unexcused... and that is why we should all study God's Word so carefully so we base our beliefs on His Word and not on our own human understandings or reasonings (which is the case in Arminianism)... yet God promises that those who genuinely believe in Christ alone for their salvation, WILL be saved and are part of the elect, though they be RC, arminian etc.

@mrinda91 It's a pleasure. The knowledge that God has made available to us through the Bible is impeccable. It is the gift of His word that tells us of His wonderful ways. For that to be disregarded, especially by the elect, is disheartening. I cannot bear to allow preaching of false doctrine, for God proclaimed that we must stop it. As a Baptist, I want to return my church back to God's Doctrine, of the Bible. I pray we will get there soon.
Sadly throughout a lot of the posts here there appears to be a lack of love (from both sides). Yes, debating doctrinal differences is good and right, but here I see much arguments, bitterness and hatred... even the pastor in this video stated "I dislike him [John Piper]". Paul said that without love, we profit nothing (I Cor 13).
Sure doctrine is important...but it is in our life, the way we act and interact with others (especially those we disagree with) that we show what lives in our hearts.
@FriedAtheist Yes I am a Calvinist, but thanks to God, I come from a strong Christian home with a strong family, I don't suffer from depression, I am not bitter against God, and my church is thriving. I absolutely believe that God is good and He is loving... of course He is, for how else would I be saved.
And if u truly believe that no calvinists will be in heaven, then I gently suggest u go and reread ur Bible, since denomination is not on the exclusion criteria for heaven. Praying for u.

Heresy is a different matter, and that is something unexcused. God has given us much to be thankful for, such as salvation. And His blessings are given at His own pleasure. Give me a reason to think we are so powerful to come to God Almighty. We are nothing without Him, and if God wants us to be saved that is HIS WILL. We must recognize that He controls all things, and man's will before salvation is not to find God. Look at the world around us.
And when has anyone ever done that? If so, it certainly isn't relevant to this topic. Ephesians 1:3-6 clearly states justification. You can accept the facts, or you can deny scripture. This doesn't diminish God's love of mankind in anyway, for the Bible also proclaims his love for everyone. However, it does not say God is just waiting at the door- begging and pleading- for us to allow him in. II believe every word of the Bible, and nothing else.
It took me a long time to accept it, because I had believed that we were in control of our own lives. However, by studying the Bible I have realized that God isn't just powerful in his justification, but in every aspect of life. If we serve a weak God, then I wouldn't believe in God at all. He doesn't pick people to go to Hell like Mr. Piper says, but he does choose those whom he saves. We all deserve Hell, but God's mercy and love has allowed forgiveness for us. It only makes sense.
The Bible isn't on your side. Read Ephesians and Romans; Paul definitively states that justification is predestined by God. We, humans, aren't God- He is all powerful.

After listening to this, Im going to dig around some more and allow the Lord to open my ears to the truth of this matter. Ive listened to McArthur and Sproul for some time and if this is erroneous teaching, I want to know...and get it as far away from me as possible..and repent of my own misunderstandings.....

Personally, as I live in LA and have been familiar with the aforementioned Mr. MacArthur, RUN... Run as fast and far away as you can. Commit to reading only Romans through Philemon and allow the words of St. Paul to sink in. What he received was from the 'risen' Lord. Quite a bit different than the word of Jesus to the house of Israel. We are in an age of Grace, praise God.

i went to an armenian school i was always taught that my decision is what ultimately saves me. then i picked up a bible tract by a.w. pink on the doctrine of election. i wanted to see the few verses he would be taking out of scripture to come up with this election business. when i finished, FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION, THAT'S ALL I SAW!! but only the Holy Spirit can open you heart to accept these precious "doctrines of grace". my prayer for you is that He will in due time.

A lot of talk but very little scripture. My advice to you is to put away the books stop listening to your preacher buddies and pick up the Bible and read it, don't look for loop hole around what you don't like, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and examine your believes based on all of the Bible not just a few verses make sure you're not the one who is deceived and never forget that satan is the father of all lies and he can deceive the best of us DON"T think he can't.

So in scripture you see, Man is good enough to choose God, God called the good people who would choose Him, That Christ died for the sins of every man yet some are still going to hell. That man has the strength to resist God, when God wants a man to be saved, He cant' save them if man doesn't want to. And that although salvation is a free gift we can lose it? Christ only died for the elect, He lays down His life for His sheep. Man cannot resist the effectual call of the Holy Spirit. When God chooses a man, that man will be saved. And God will finish what He started. No one can lose salvation, God will bring it to completion.

There will be Calvinists in heaven for "as many as were ordained to eternal life believed." (Acts 13:48b) You want your promises? Here is one: "And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified." (Rom 8:30)
But you know what? There will be great many Arminians in heaven, for in Christ Jesus neither Calvinism nor Arminianism counts for anything, but only faith working through love! (cf. Gal 5:6)

first off John piper is not a Calvanist he does share in the belief of the doctrine of election which is Biblical. Also the point of election is so grey one could get lost in minutia trying to argue for or against it. Truth be told, he believes and preaches the one key piece of the Gospel Christ Crucified bottom line. Even Paul stated that it mattered not what a mans reasoning as long as he preaches Christ. As an aside I've never heard someone spend so much time on the word brethren in a sermon.

What is this guy talking about? Calvinism hinches on grace. It is all about God's grace as founded in scripture. John Piper is one of the most biblical Christ centered preacher of our day. He doesn't believe you can lose your salvation. This guy is a complete fool. He is denouncing the doctrines of not only these modern calvinist, but of Martin Luther, Augistine, Calvin, Charles Spurgeon, John Owen and many more greats that shaped Christianity. I guess this guy is just so wise compared to them.

However when I read my Bible in it's entirety, my faith and my beliefs (as outlined in the five points of Calvinism or the Canons of Dort) are affirmed. Just look at the Bible texts @875309100 brought out... and so no, I don't believe Calvinism is a false doctrine...

@875309100 yes i agree, heresy is unexcused... and that is why we should all study God's Word so carefully so we base our beliefs on His Word and not on our own human understandings or reasonings (which is the case in Arminianism)... yet God promises that those who genuinely believe in Christ alone for their salvation, WILL be saved and are part of the elect, though they be RC, arminian etc.

Sadly throughout a lot of the posts here there appears to be a lack of love (from both sides). Yes, debating doctrinal differences is good and right, but here I see much arguments, bitterness and hatred... even the pastor in this video stated "I dislike him [John Piper]". Paul said that without love, we profit nothing (I Cor 13).
Sure doctrine is important...but it is in our life, the way we act and interact with others (especially those we disagree with) that we show what lives in our hearts.

@FriedAtheist Yes I am a Calvinist, but thanks to God, I come from a strong Christian home with a strong family, I don't suffer from depression, I am not bitter against God, and my church is thriving. I absolutely believe that God is good and He is loving... of course He is, for how else would I be saved.
And if u truly believe that no calvinists will be in heaven, then I gently suggest u go and reread ur Bible, since denomination is not on the exclusion criteria for heaven. Praying for u.

It took me a long time to accept it, because I had believed that we were in control of our own lives. However, by studying the Bible I have realized that God isn't just powerful in his justification, but in every aspect of life. If we serve a weak God, then I wouldn't believe in God at all. He doesn't pick people to go to Hell like Mr. Piper says, but he does choose those whom he saves. We all deserve Hell, but God's mercy and love has allowed forgiveness for us. It only makes sense.

He already knows the future, but that doesn't mean he picks people to go to heaven and picks people to go to hell. Jesus is enough to save every soul who has ever lived. Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.
No problem with God being such a loving God that he gave his creation a choice to chose him or reject him. The sinner who rejects Jesus has chosen his fate, but the sinner who receives Jesus DID NOT save himself.

I haven't read or listened through the entire thing, but here's the sermon, draw you conclusions after. I see no heresy in these men. And when you hear someone call someone else a heretic, its a serious charge so make sure they have solid biblical proof for it. God Bless

Ive listened to McArthur and Sproul for some time and if this is erroneous teaching, I want to know...and get it as far away from me as possible..and repent of my own misunderstandings.....

Personally, as I live in LA and have been familiar with the aforementioned Mr. MacArthur, RUN... Run as fast and far away as you can. Commit to reading only Romans through Philemon and allow the words of St. Paul to sink in. What he received was from the 'risen' Lord. Quite a bit different than the word of Jesus to the house of Israel. We are in an age of Grace, praise God.

@jvsm1971 It's not. One thing I will say is if it is, and if this guy will call them "heretics" provide BIBLICAL facts as to why. For the entire video, he just inserted his opinion. I am in no way endorsing these men, but I have no problem with them. I actually disagree, "as of now" on cessationism teaching of Macarthur, but these men are biblically sound. I do agree that you CAN NOT lose your salvation. Show me scripture "IN CONTEXT" that says you can and I may disagree. JOHN 6:32-40, HEB 6:1-7

Oh, and that scriptural reference he used to say they they use as an excuse is I John 18-20. This is biblical. Once again, don't take peoples opinion, test it against the word of God and make sure it's "IN CONTEXT". Also, what I love about John Piper though is that is preachings are posted online, so that if he says something in error, we can correct
