the story in wc3 was so perfectly told, and the fact that you had to do the all the Culling in Stratholme really made you feel the sense of urgency that Arthas felt. I felt like WoW's attempt to give you that feeling in the Culling of Stratholme instance didnt have that emotional tie, it was more just a nuisance, whereas in wc3 it was emotionally gripping.

It kind of made me dissapointed how the lore just kind of died along with the RTS idea. It's still there somewhat, but it's bits and peices of a shattered diamond. They Hardly even describe how Arthas came to be other than a few tips here and there. You pretty muchhave to play Wc3 before you really understand why this raid exists, or why some person you've never seen before is suddenly your greatest ally or some long lost arch enemy of your people.

The Warcraft 3 cutscenes are probably one of the best looking video game cutscenes ever, if not the best. However, I think they made Arthas look too stylized, I mean his hands are huge in proportion to his body, and even his armour makes him look like a Space Marine with a cape.

@dragondisaster That's simply blizzard's art style. I think it's one of my favorite CG styles out there. I feel like i noticed a bit of it from the way the characters in Darksiders were modeled. Blizzard's artists have always made amazing work.

just so ppl understand: dota didn't cheapen the game it actually increased pitch sales a little bit for warcraft 3, that money may have been geared towards helping on improving wow and the creation of starcraft 2. now don't get me wrong, i hate dota, i hate playing it, seriously. :| however, if it helps blizzard, then why complain when they're just gunna come out with better and better games! Here's hoping for starcraft 2 to become another epic that never needs replacing for over 50+ years(?)

While I do agree that DotA is incredibly overrated by fags who play it all day, there are other custom games that are really fun. They don't "cheapen" the game at all, and you're not being forced to partake. Hell, they even have their own list of rooms. If you wanna play a standard round, no one's stopping you.

terrible comparison. Harry Potter story is Average at best, yes i read all 7, great ending but still an average story.

the story is "meh" in WC3 as its practically a carbon copy of Starcraft's. It really killed it for me. All of the characters atleast make it colorful, but there are so many that the game didn't take enough time to flesh them out. The only characters you cared for were Illidan (now dead in WoW), Arthas (Soon to be dead in WoW) and Thrall. Everybody else was just there.

@Gamerpower the story was stolen from starcraft. think about it they both have 1 guy who is good at first (in starcrafts case its a girl, kerrigan) who gets infected by some evil (warcraft- Undead starcraft- zerg) and turns into a fucking evil monster. Blizzard stole their own story. XD

Man, the history is pretty well done in wow in general, but Arthas... he is not so intelligent and badass than the Arthas of this game. In this game as you get close to the end all things seem to be planned by the deamon of the sword, he is patient and efficient, he get some respect and fear from all the races, he ruled the world... but now for me is just another bad guy to defeat in wow with not much personality. But still i like the game, is fun.

Well, I started with WC2 when I was six, if that's far enough back for you. WC2 and 3 happens to be two of my most favourite games of all time.

I love the attention the Lore and the music gets in the WarCraft series. I began with WoW and then played WC3 and TFT, but they never got less attention from me than WoW did. It all blends in so well. Blizzard knows what an adventurous person seeks in a game and they never seem to stop amaze you. I can really lose myself in it, like in a good book. Blizzard must never stop making these precious treasures!

Non-expansion human campaign is definitely one of my favorite RTS campaigns ever. The entire single player for RoC IS my favorite RTS, though. TFT was fun, but not nearly as good.

I absolutely loved the mission at about 4:40

You had to race against a computer controlled dread lord to kill citizens in a country while he would not stop to attack your base all the time. You ran around killing people in a frenzy and had to defend your base in the same time. Hilarous and funny two fronts idea. My favourite mission in Roc.

Indeed. Years of living in exile and forced to fight will do that to a noble people. War Drums are still part of their life.  However, honor and valor isn't just limited to the Alliance; if anything, the Horde has more. Look at the story of Tirion Fordring and Eitrigg.
