Madison wrote the constitution and the convention adopted it in September or 1787.

a true free market would be somewhat self-regulating. Nothing wrong with gathering wealth, as long as you don't hurt others to do it. Gathering power is usually done by sabotaging a free market, which is why we are at this point now; the money has been used to control creation and execution of law to give unfair advantage to corporations. A true free market can't exist until these laws go away. A good start is the law that exempts health ins. companies from antitrust laws.

Ron Paul's talks about the virtues of free market economics..... and then goes on to say that the gvmnt should regulate the core of the financial industry- the Fed (which is a conglomeration of the biggest private banks.)

I agree the Fed should be heavily regulated and audited.

But that is a lot different than free market economics. In a free market economy the gvmnt would have zero say about what the Fed does (ironically.)

How does he reconcile that?

@fczwartek as far as I know, his reconciliation of that point exists in his belief that government should print currency and that the fed should be abolished. I know his position is to end the fed, and he's using an incrementalist strategy to get there, believing if the books are opened up its excesses will become public creating the public "capital" needed to abolish it.

The public does want the Fed to be audited.

According to a Rasmussen poll from last December 79% of the public want the Fed to be audited, and only 7% do not think it should be audited.

But unfortunately in this country public opinion is irrelevant to the policy makers (or else we would have universal heath care by now.)

The only opinion that matters to the policy makers is that of their elite corporate paymasters.

So I doubt the Fed will be audited anytime soon, unfortunately.
