We have been tied up with a big rollout of the EduBook in Indonesia. Oke shops is about to roll out the EduBook. We have been tweaking a version of Ubuntu here. We will have the metal version of the InfoPad very soon. We have the touch screens ready. We changed the design to make it lighter. We also have a plastic case in the works.
We are doing two versions. One uses a metal case and the other plastic. We have been making the case lighter and lighter. We have been building kiosks based on the design already but kiosks don't haveto be light. Next week, I will have the latest metal case and we will have the plastic case in six weeks.
Does the VGA port mean the graphics is dual-head or is it just mirrored? Also I couldn't find what resolutions / aspect ratios are supported by the graphics chipset.
Also, is there an extra power socket for the in-car charging? And btw is there one on the EduBook?
The board supports one or the other --VGA or LVDS. The chipset can support many resolutions. Through LVDS, the highest is 1024 x 768. Throug the VGA port in 16 bit mode, the resolution can be 1280 x 768, 1280 x 720, 1280 x 960, 1280 x 1024, 1366 x 768, 1400 x 1050, 1680 x 1050.
We can provide the option to power from a car system but not in car charge. The VGA doesn' work dual head -- it is either or. The resolutions supported at 16 at 1280 x 720, 1280 x 768, 1280 x 960, 1280 x 1024, 1366x768, 1400 x 1050, 1680 x 1050.
Too bad, it stops working, when liftet (2:23). Anyway, add a gps receiver with a linux compatible chip, and i'll buy one. Maybe even two.
Zu blöd, daß das Ding ausgeht, wenn man's anhebt (2:23). Egal, packt einen linuxcompatiblen GPS-Chip rein, und ich kaufe so ein Ding. Vielleicht aich zwei.
There is a USB space inside the unit as in the Edubook. You can put a GPS module there if you don't need WIFI. As for the screen going blank, that has nothing to do with the unit being lifted. You can see I lifted the unit already. The screensaver came on and there was no touch screen or keyboard connected to the prototype, otherwise, I would have tapped the screen to bring up the display.
Thanks for clearing this up. (BTW: Why does the screensaver ignore the crawling mouse pointer?)
I definitely like the AA battery option. I really prefer AAs instead of some obscure accumulator packet when it comes to mobility and field computing.. Fresh AAs are often much easier to aquire than a free wall socket.
The AA batteries have to be NiMH. Actually, Alkalines would work but you shouldn't use them because if you plug in the charger with Alkalines, these might pop the batteries. You can always keep a fresh charge of 8 AA NiMH batteries with you. We will post another video when we have the touch screens.
We have several videos running on the Edubook which uses the same components showing how the Edubook performs with Linux and Windows. It would be redundant for us to go over the same territory when we were simply showing a preview of the product. Once we get the touch screen, we will load the driver and show how the Info Pad runs.

I like it, really glad I found this =)
the AA battery idea is excellent, and I am amazed at the said operation time =)
what is the volt required to run that thing?
what about durability, and do you guys have a onlineshop?

I have 3 questions:
1. which os do you deliver with the system?
2. how much is shipping to germny for 1 unit
3. do you know if i can run CE on it?
gadthrawn 2 years ago
1. We deliver either Windows or Linux.
2. Shipping one unit to Germany is expensive -- about $55.00. We are hoping for dealers there.
3. CE can run but for CE you can get by with a less expensive unit that runs a ARM or other RISC chip.
