  • Better than the album version.

  • Absolutely excellent !! Can't stop listening to it. Such a nostalgia ;)

Put it all together - that's fu*in' big idea ;)

    L.

  • You're a fucking genius.

  • Well, that was fucking amazing. Would totally buy this on iTunes.

  • OMG zx spectrum - my first computer :) nostalgy tears

  • First song i heard of Radiohead.

  • would've been faster with TurboTape...

  • Let the bass scanner kick it!

  • You captured Thom's voice almost perfectly. This is ace.

  • @djslurch I think it's just a sped up version of the original. It is, after all, a response to the remix competition.

  • Love the "look around you" style video

  • I love the sound that scanner makes... I need to get my hands on one of those somehow.

  • Jesus Christ, I hope this won the competition.

  • the 1980´s are the best

  • 3 MARCH IN HOUSTON : MY LIFE WOULD END UP BY THE EXPLOSION AND THE BIRTH OF SUPER NOVA

  • AMazing, I found this video while looking nfor what external HDD is the best. I found a ranking and at the bottom there was this video embeded. Me being a huge radiohead fan clicked instantly and I knew it was going to be awesome as soon as I watched that vintage tube TV. Amazing cover! Straight to my covers playlist.

  • Amazing work!!

  • That was amazing. I felt like i entered some robot world and i was only human at a robot concert. :O

  • the only thing that i dont like is the fact that the like button works once

  • This video is GREAT ... Nicely done ,

  • @KDoc21 Cold War Kids did it.

  • Awesome, great work

  • Popłakałem się.

  • thank god for nerds.

  • SWEET BABY JESUS.

  • ZX Spectrum...holy crap. I remember playing Elite with my dad on one of those.

  • starts at 1:09 ...

  • 3:25 the scanner couldnt handle its awsomeness ;)

  • coolcoolcoolcoolcoolcolocloocloclocloclocloclocoocooclocklocolc0dsfwaupjef

  • I want that oscilloscope in my room, on my dresser.

  • Instant favorite...

  • This fits the message of the song beautifully.

  • Fantastic! Do more!

  • oh and 93 people entered the contest and relized they weren't as good as this..

  • Is there some way i could download this?

  • I'm absolutely blown away. this is fantastic. i mean that machine really emulates thom's vocals

  • @nerdjam45

That's because it is. The original track was recorded to an answering machine and played back into a set of hard drives used as speakers.

  • 1:08

  • everything has a purpose, even if that purpose has been fulfilled, respect the dead and dying.

  • what's this guy's electric bill!!

  • So sad. Old, outdated machines attempting to be functional one more time. Don't get any big ideas...

  • Strange, yet at the same time bloody amazing.

  • @Cmpunmu3 you do know that is not a keyboard, its an old british 8bit computer from 1982

  • The bass-scanner is amazing! Sounds like the Doors' Break on Through intro

  • You have got a big idea:

using old computer parts to play nude,

    ok computer.

  • this is Incredible

  • Bass scanner, best instrument ever.

  • I hadn't listened to this in forever, but I was going through my Youtube favorites and came back to it - and man, it is STILL amazing.

  • @9I3BA111 Haha no mate, if you send an audio signal through the actuator (a 'motor' that moves the read/write head) it will vibrate because of the alternating currents in the signal. That vibration causes the actuator to generate a tone at that point. I've tried this, look at my channel, this video is 100% real.

  • @9I3BA111 Guess what. The coil that moves the heads in a hard drive is called, quite curiously, a VOICE COIL. It's called it for a reason. Because it's the same damn coil that you'd find in a speaker. In a speaker it moves the membrane, in a hard drive it moves the head. Works exactly the same. If you find a random dead hard drive and hook up an amp to the voice coil, you have an instant speaker. Poor, but there's no mistaking that it works like one. Head assembly is small so is a poor membrane.

  • i want the scanner and the hard drives! i could sit there for hours listening to them!

  • my cat was entranced by this video.

  • I like the fuck-up translation of Thom's voice. What'd you do for that? The znzkmamzvznzccBznnznznnznznzn.

  • @c0mLAG

It looks like he recorded the vocal track to an old answering machine, but most of the tinny quality that track has seems to be based on the fact he's using old hard drives as amps.

  • Need the mp3

  • >view in hd

Why? It feels right to watch this one in low-def.

  • An epic tribute to respectful hardware.

  • I bet that scanner could lay down a bass line with some more funk if it wanted to...

  • I watched this video when I was like 12 and a half, from pointlesssites.

I still love it, and god damn I have massive nostalgia.

  • I watched this in media studies at skl

  • 15 step please! all in rainbows please!

  • play 20KB 3 channel border port buzzer tune on mp3 instead of massive 200 times too big 4mb mp3 recording of the buzzer tune please?

  • Absolute bloody perfection.

  • Lots of people may like this, and i join them in.

  • Although this is a cover, it's very creative and original.

  • how is this possible??!

  • I played this to my toaster and it hid behind the microwave

  • Is this your own composition? Or is it a cover? I'd like to hear an original

  • @GlipValor

    *facepalm

  • @GlipValor are you serious? it says very clearly at the beginning that it is a cover of the song nude by radiohead

  • @bigbigsound I don't think you get whats being done here.

  • Обалденный концерт, дирижеру респект

  • The person that put this video together is right, it doesn't sound good, it sounds brilliant and i absolutely love it! the scanner/bass and the hard disk array is genius!

  • the hard drives gave me nightmares

  • what the hell.. radiohead is my favorite band, look at my page, but today i was looking up my guitar teachers band "houston," and i clicked on this.. i cant escape them man

  • The voice..... so creepy...so mysterious.... in the back of my head... whispering...

  • The scanner as the bass was freaking brilliant, my favorite part.

  • Why dose this sound better to me than the orginal ?

  • you should make a "making of" video

  • i just keep saying that every sound we hear it is a note and this is complitely true.....why some just keep denying this fact...anyway

  • 91 people have no idea what art is.

  • absolutely incredible

  • never gonna be annoyed at my noisy hdd ever again :')

  • love it..

  • fucking amazing... how does he get the hard drives to croon like thom yorke?

  • great... just great.

  • I use to have that printer, MPC-1000! ah ah ah

  • All Radiohead pieces should be done this way.

  • hmm....

You wanna know what the sad part is?

That if this had been a justin beiber cover it would've been ALL OVER the news ,tv shows, internet, media ,etc...

and the guy who made this would'be gotten a lot of money as well.

But yet again, I'm glad its not :)

  • Congratulations!!! AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dagalwhosolddaworld

That's Sinclair Spectrum loading tape obviously with music. Google for it.

  • this is incredilble. I didn't quite get the first part. the rest is just brilliant. congrats!

  • @dagalwhosolddaworld

lol, newfags don't know about spectrum

  • Every time I hear it I can't believe that the hard drives are making that sound entirely on their own. I literally swear I hear his voice and the words.

  • nice!

  • Radio head is not a pop band, that's for sure. 21st century serious/classical music?

  • @dwemmy it certainly is a great pop band. kind of like mozart in the 18th century was.

  • NICE.I love it.

  • 2:34 Lag)))XDDD

  • NO. WAY.

  • Doctor Ganjatron lmfao!!

  • El Sinclair ZX Spectrum... añoro mi 32K !!!

  • Amazing.

  • needs more repeat button.

  • 0:30 this is shit.

    1:10 ooohhhh

  • Really really impressive and brilliant. I love it.

  • Pure art indeed, I love this song and I'm an IT guy who has seen all these devices. Nostalgia, art, emotion, I'm loving it!

  • That's pretty much, badass.

  • I was really surpised to see a RadioHead cover - great attempt. Very different and likable.

  • top left corner @ 2:05

  • Грустная мелодия!

  • pure art

  • чуть не кончил

  • seeing this was genuinely a turning point in my life.

  • after not watching this for something that must be 2 years, it's still fantastic, need to skip through the tape loading time though, setsmy teeth on edge.

  • It goes from great to absolutely wonderful somewhere around 3:00.

  • The scanner is so fucking good, I get chills everytime it hits a high tone.

  • @Sylvesterin That's because the high notes resonate with your eardrums. Science ftw

  • My mind just exploded

  • 89 People didnt watch the whole video or are just stupid dickheads

  • ctmmmm la weá buena!!

  • Make an album. I'll buy a copy.

  • @ExcessiveSpareTime it can only be played on DOS computers.

  • 1:08

  • The music is rubbish. Arrangement and performance though, is genius. Excellent.

  • this is awesome but i still dont get how one could do this...guess thats y its so sweet

  • Класс!

  • weird

  • saw this at glasgow school of art open day at the visual communications lecture, and the entire room was blown away. Amazing

  • I find it amazing how the human mind works. Usually, this song is somewhat elegant, yet here it is scratchy and ugly, like it was intended to be, yet from what I've seen so many more people are attracted to this song, just because of how out of place it is...

It seems to be eerily soothing.

  • @Bogeii That printer has a really soothing 'rubrub' noise.

  • @Bogeii Woops, meant scanner.

  • There's something deeply satisfying about this video. I keep coming back to it.

  • @PGPinyourpants It's because you think you can make out the lyrics from the noise of the hard drive heads. It's almost human.

  • @PGPinyourpants Its in my favourites, and I can't remember the last time I came onto youtube and didn't put it on again!

  • This is amazing.

Only a true genius could do this.

  • I love this! Puts a tear in my eye!

  • Comment removed

  • esto es un jartazo 10/10

  • I can't even begin to immagine the work this must have taken. The amount of time we be on par with doctorate discertations.

  • Thanks for this video, I do believe in Radiohead again thanks to your fantastic video, genuinely, creative and very very touching. ;)

  • HOLY FOOK! I needz some of that ;)

  • 1:08 skip ahead to here... trust me. Seriously... just trust me.

Most boring first 68 seconds of any video on youtube ever. Other than that, amazingly creative.

  • FUCKING EPICNESS MAXIMUISE!!

  • This is Art, this is creativity in its purest form, forget all the rubbish modern art being churned up and look at a true master...

    BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO !!!!!

  • This is Art, this is creativity in its purest form, forget all the rubbish modern art being churned up and look at a true master...

    BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO !!!!!

  • Hell?! How did he do this?!?!?!?!

  • Wow brilliant, awesome, fantastico and not all bad :-) I loved my old ZX, I agree with mushu5t please release the mp3....

  • >MFW it is actually way better than original. Listened this for more than 3 times in row. Just skipped through the original.

  • This is brilliant man, there's something poetic about those derelict pieces of junk singing in unison. We're all in the gutter but some look at the stars.

  • Can you release the MP3 for this somewhere?

  • Both editions are so very nice. Guess I have to go with this one for the sheer effort and really amazing sound.

  • This is hipster.

  • @SebastianCova

I really hope you're being sarcastic...

  • This is awesome, love the remix and the old hardware.

  • what on earth have I just witnessed here? This is fantastic.

  • 2:05 -> SHADOW

  • every time I need some inspiration I watch your video, you are truly a pioneer in this field

    thank you

    James C. BD594

  • I'm of the opinion that this sounds absolutely beautiful. I actually prefer listening to this over the original by the slightest of margins.

  • better than the original.

  • can i download this somehow?

  • Well done scanner!!! :)

  • I think this sounds better than the original ^-^ And the little machines are cute, in a weird, retro kinda way :D

  • 1:05!

  • Well done. Pretty horrible sounding, but well done.

  • using an oscilloscope is cheating

  • @npc223: An oscilloscope just visualizes the sound. It doesn't create it.

  • @npc223 using scope is cheating how? Using a function generator directly could be, but even then not really, but a scope to see the function is cheating?

  • best youtuve video ever.

  • This is art.

  • Fucking AMAZING
