The police are sent immediately after we get the call. Our computer systems send the address and type of call to the other dispatchers computer and they send them while we stay on and get as much information as we can, we are required! So please dont say how stupid we are until you know how we do our jobs

It is pretty routine to still be talking to the person on the phone after the police/ambulance has been sent to try and keep them calm and to determine other bits of useful information. So the Police was probably on its way.

One of us is the call-taker, and one of us sends the police. As soon as we have an address, our computer sends the info to the computer of the other dispatcher and the police are sent immediately. Then we stay on the line and get as much info as we can.

@Arcanecide Actually, normally as soon as they get the address they send the services. It is pretty routine to still be talking to the person on the phone after the police/ambulance has been sent to try and keep them calm and to determine other bits of useful information. So the Police was probably on its way.

@theRBninja I am a 911 dispatcher....as soon as we get the call, it is dispatched. We stay on the phone until the police arrive..state law mandates that. One of us is the call-taker, and one of us sends the police. As soon as we have an address, our computer sends the info to the computer of the other dispatcher and the police are sent immediately. Then we stay on the line and get as much info as we can.
