Lens flares are also symetrical and stay the same shape. This one moves and changes shape and even has tendrils. It's a solar flare hitting Venus's electro magnetic field and lighting it up. @bluefirekey So a lot of extreme space weather is happening around the solar maximum, which is this year. (sun runs on 13 year cycles). Also, you're right, I would not expect to see a magnetic field loop like that, given that Venus' magnetic field is almost nonexistent. This is still very curious to me.
An experiment you can do at home: Take some iron shavings (use a file or grinding wheel on a carpentry nail) and scatter them evenly on a piece of paper. Then put it over a magnet.

The reason why the lense flares have been created is because the camera Stereo B is focused between the Sun & Earth. There is a radation trench connecting the Sun to Venus and the Camera is tooked away right behind Venus and recording right though that trench to focus of the designated postion. What do you think that is going to show?
I hate to break your celestial awakening but please watch the current video on the NASA website. You can clearly see that the top & bottom of the suppose Crononal Mass Ejection
is exactly the same shape. If this was an authentic CME then it would be shaped very differently. Also notice on the second video there is multiple lense flares happening in the core of the first proposed CME postion.
When I was flying past Venus the other day, this thing lit up like a sun and shot that wave of energy at me. It was amazing. Had to speed up to avoid getting hit though. It was like the energy was saying hello.

This SAME Lens Flare happens EVERY TIME Venus gets a certain distance from the center of the Camera. EVERY TIME for the past FIVE YEARS! The Flare ALWAYS points to the center of the Camera, EVERY TIME. Back in Mar- Apr 2007 when Stereo B was behind the Earth, the Earth caused the SAME flare on Stereo B. Why is this all of a sudden so fascinating? It's been going on for the History of the Stereo Spacecraft.
To all you fucking idiots who proclaim it's a lens flare before giving it a second thought, here's a lesson in photography. A lens flare is an artifact of an off axis light source reflecting inside complex optics. A flare will follow the camera movement in relation to the light source. STEREO and SOHO both use occulters to block out the direct light of the Sun and do not have the type of optics that would produce lens flares that appear as moving arcs coming off a planet's surface. Get educated!
@LCARS43278 Guess again. Any sufficiently bright light source that crosses HI-1's field of view, like Venus, will produce this lens flare. The exact same lens flare was produced on the ground in pre-flight testing. Look at the link given in my video's description:
@messierhunter Yes and thanks to everyone who pointed this out. I actually went and did my homework on this afterward and I admit I jumped the gun when I saw the footage here. Upon further inspection I concluded the same thing, lens flare for sure. It all came down to seeing more footage, the few seconds of animation shown here was a bit deceptive but at the time it was all the data that was available, once more images came out I could clearly see the evolution of a lens flare. :)

@wvwification1 You're welcome, it's always an interaction going on. Even a lens flare, especially in this example where the camera has an ocular which a tube that prevents lens flare. The only way for lens flare to occur is via 2nd hand reflection, in which case it would be symetrical, ie a bow tie effect. Not as in this case, organic with the bunny ear effect, which almost guarentees it is a natural event, not an optical malfunction.
This looks like a HUGE magnetic disturbance, a lot like the sun, this is absolutely amazing because Venus is know for it's lack of magnetic field, and then BOOM Venus all of a sudden has lift off!!

@gvloanguy basically you're proving its a lens relfection. :) These are concave and convex lenses, not flat surfaces so we're NOT going to see them at the apex of the curve, only at the starting point reflecting its shape, essentially, on itself.
well, back in the hood, we call this a lens reflection.... see this on cameras all the time, and considering the 'corona' holds the same flaws the lens does... I think thats a dead give away.
@DanielofDoria02: There are earthquakes like that every day on this planet, it's nothing unusual. The past week, we've only had about 168 measurable quakes. Some weeks there are over 200. Check it out by googling USGS.
It´s a lens flare, you can see the flare pointing to the centre of the lens, if Vênus had become a mini sun don´t you think we would see it, very bright? I´m professional photographer and very interest in nasa telescopes.
I have no way of declaring this is a flare, however, if you will, check out all the videos showing interactions with Mars and the once thought canals of water turn out to be discharges of electrical current from Venus. Read Immanuel Velikovsky's "Worlds in Collision" and you will understand that this is an electrically charged universe.
The Sun was throwing out some flares itself, somewhat in Venus's direction. And then Venus discharged a flare. Its like the planet was responding to the Sun. I am sure they correlate somehow. It all works together like a big organism. Holographic universe. Do think the center of the galaxy is throwing out some sort of vibration/frequency and the Sun is responding to that and all of the planets are responding to the Sun. And we will soon respond to our planet.... Food for thought. ; )
If you go back on Stereo HI Behind from last year, same dates through the beginning of 2011, you will see the same "energy transfer" happening...I agree that it is no lens flare.
This phenomenon is explained if you look are "If you see something strange" link on the Stereo website. It is an optical effect that always occurs when something bright like Venus gets close tot he edge of the field of view.
Sorry. I spent 30+ years behind lenses on cameras that took up two rooms - 30 feet long. I know what a lens flare looks like on a moving object. you would get the same thing filming thru a crack in a glass with an object moving into view. But the music and graphics are awesome in your vids.

I think you'll find it just to be a lens artifact. I can count on one hand, out of 115 comments, the number of folk here who can actually use a search engine and do their own research on what amounts to basic astronomical science.
As far as "Earth Next"? Not likely, although there are some who say that our magnetic field is due for an inversion event. That would be bad. Earth's dynamo-driven field is strong enough to keep all those nasty charged particles away.
Why? Cause if it wasn't, we wouldn't be here. That's why. :)

This erosion process results in a steady loss of low mass hydrogen, helium, and oxygen ions, while higher mass molecules such as carbon dioxide are more likely to be retained. The erosion has increased the ratio of higher mass deuterium to lower mass hydrogen in the upper atmosphere by a multiple of 150 times the ratio in the lower atmosphere.

The weak magnetosphere around Venus means that the solar wind is interacting directly with the outer atmosphere of the planet. Here, ions of hydrogen and oxygen are being created by the dissociation of neutral molecules from ultraviolet radiation. The solar wind then supplies energy that gives some of these ions sufficient velocity to escape the planet's gravity field.

Ive been a huge fan of the tube for a few years now and recently have felt like there seems to be censorship and view count manipulation happening.

The reason why the lense flares have been created is because the camera Stereo B is focused between the Sun & Earth. There is a radation trench connecting the Sun to Venus and the Camera is tooked away right behind Venus and recording right though that trench to focus of the designated postion. What do you think that is going to show?

I hate to break your celestial awakening but please watch the current video on the NASA website. You can clearly see that the top & bottom of the suppose Crononal Mass Ejection
is exactly the same shape. If this was an authentic CME then it would be shaped very differently. Also notice on the second video there is multiple lense flares happening in the core of the first proposed CME postion.

When I was flying past Venus the other day, this thing lit up like a sun and shot that wave of energy at me. It was amazing. Had to speed up to avoid getting hit though. It was like the energy was saying hello.

This SAME Lens Flare happens EVERY TIME Venus gets a certain distance from the center of the Camera. EVERY TIME for the past FIVE YEARS! The Flare ALWAYS points to the center of the Camera, EVERY TIME. Back in Mar- Apr 2007 when Stereo B was behind the Earth, the Earth caused the SAME flare on Stereo B. Why is this all of a sudden so fascinating? It's been going on for the History of the Stereo Spacecraft.

To all you fucking idiots who proclaim it's a lens flare before giving it a second thought, here's a lesson in photography. A lens flare is an artifact of an off axis light source reflecting inside complex optics. A flare will follow the camera movement in relation to the light source. STEREO and SOHO both use occulters to block out the direct light of the Sun and do not have the type of optics that would produce lens flares that appear as moving arcs coming off a planet's surface. Get educated!

@LCARS43278 Guess again. Any sufficiently bright light source that crosses HI-1's field of view, like Venus, will produce this lens flare. The exact same lens flare was produced on the ground in pre-flight testing. Look at the link given in my video's description:

@messierhunter Yes and thanks to everyone who pointed this out. I actually went and did my homework on this afterward and I admit I jumped the gun when I saw the footage here. Upon further inspection I concluded the same thing, lens flare for sure. It all came down to seeing more footage, the few seconds of animation shown here was a bit deceptive but at the time it was all the data that was available, once more images came out I could clearly see the evolution of a lens flare. :)

Thanks to everyone who politely pointed out proof this was a lens flare and I apologize for spazzing out. I actually went and did my homework on this afterward and I admit I jumped the gun when I saw the footage here, mostly because I get so pissed off with people always bashing on someone who is trying to discover something unusual.

Upon further inspection I too concluded this is a lens flare for sure. It all came down to seeing more footage, the few seconds of animation shown in this vid was a bit deceptive but at the time it was all the data that was available. Once more images came out I could clearly see the pattern of evolution as a lens flare and not an actual flare. I have seen many lens flares from these instruments before and can usually pick them out but this one even fooled me for a while. ;)

@LCARS43278 Exactly. Look at the vid at .45 secs. There is a smaller loop on the opposite side. As a photographer I know for a fact you can't get lens flare on the dark side of an object. Lens flares are also symetrical and stay the same shape. This one moves and changes shape and even has tendrils. It's a solar flare hitting Venus's electro magnetic field and lighting it up. Venus's aurora borealis. :)

@wvwification1 You're welcome, it's always an interaction going on. Even a lens flare, especially in this example where the camera has an ocular which a tube that prevents lens flare. The only way for lens flare to occur is via 2nd hand reflection, in which case it would be symetrical, ie a bow tie effect. Not as in this case, organic with the bunny ear effect, which almost guarentees it is a natural event, not an optical malfunction.

Not convinced that this is a lens flare.... it really looks like some sort of eruption. similar shape to a lens flare, but it looks 3 dimensional, coming out of venus, interesting shape and movement. i know it seems unbelievable! thats why its so interesting... if it *really* looked like a lens flare to me, i would let it go.

@gvloanguy basically you're proving its a lens relfection. :) These are concave and convex lenses, not flat surfaces so we're NOT going to see them at the apex of the curve, only at the starting point reflecting its shape, essentially, on itself.

I have no way of declaring this is a flare, however, if you will, check out all the videos showing interactions with Mars and the once thought canals of water turn out to be discharges of electrical current from Venus. Read Immanuel Velikovsky's "Worlds in Collision" and you will understand that this is an electrically charged universe.

The Sun was throwing out some flares itself, somewhat in Venus's direction. And then Venus discharged a flare. Its like the planet was responding to the Sun. I am sure they correlate somehow. It all works together like a big organism. Holographic universe. Do think the center of the galaxy is throwing out some sort of vibration/frequency and the Sun is responding to that and all of the planets are responding to the Sun. And we will soon respond to our planet.... Food for thought. ; )

This phenomenon is explained if you look are "If you see something strange" link on the Stereo website. It is an optical effect that always occurs when something bright like Venus gets close tot he edge of the field of view.

Sorry. I spent 30+ years behind lenses on cameras that took up two rooms - 30 feet long. I know what a lens flare looks like on a moving object. you would get the same thing filming thru a crack in a glass with an object moving into view. But the music and graphics are awesome in your vids.

@DanielofDoria02 So that's what I saw 2 minutes ago, there are 2 big "stars" one "the biggest" is Jupiter I'm guessing and the other "smaller one" was Venus, but the smaller one was "flashing" a bit, was it this what I just saw? Also the sky in my country is VERY clear, you can see stars REALLY good, something I haven't seen for a few years in this country.

I think you'll find it just to be a lens artifact. Venus produces these artifacts everytime it comes into STEREO's field of view and leave the field of view,cause by the lens.As Venus approaches the edge of the field-of-view, a ring shape is seen apparently coming out of the planet. This is caused by reflections of the bright planet off of the camera barrel. The planet is not the sun and it did not explode. But yet it fools people everytime the planet comes or leaves the field of view.
