I would stop watching after season 7, where the show was intended to end. The last 2 seasons were just Carter's way of milking more money out of the franchise, same with the last movie. The show lost it's creative sensibility and drive when it moved from Vancouver, Canada to L.A.

Basically when Duchovny lost interest in the show. He really was the one character that the show couldn't continue without. Season's 6 and 7 are DECENT at best. The best episodes are from 1-5.

I don't know if the X-Files fans were the first to use it, but we have the first evidence of it from 1996 (probably internet chats or websites). Shipper comes from Relationship.

The internet got big around that time, X-Files was pretty darn popular in the 90's, it spread like wild fire. MSR = Mulder Scully Romance.
