Uh, I had a 1997-3 cylinder Geo- Metro, 5pd........a great little commuter car. If I drove carefully I could get 60 mpg, and this is without many of the newer fuel saving technologies (variable valve timing, auto shutdown at stop, ultra lean burn mode, gas direct injection to name a few). I could see a little car like the Geo getting close to 100 mpg with some reworking of the systems. Problem is that little car would cost 20 grand, would it even sell? maybe if gas goes to 5 bucks a gallon.

The fact is defensive driving and paying strict attention to the road will keep you safer...no such thing as totally safe though. When gas gets up to 6 bucks a gallon I will opt to have a little more risk, instead of dropping a ton of money on fuel.

Unless you're Amish, you can do better. So that being said, if someone wants a Hummer and gets the electric ones, then they are making the effort to help and Are morally conscientious about what they do.
I would even consider one of these vehicles for the Haul capacity and safety of my family.

But being morally conscientious about buying an electric hummer (as opposed to a normal Hummer) does not detract from the fact that they use up so much of thye earths resources. Your opinion helps those people buying such a machine, feel better about themselves for purchasing it. vehicle size actually is a problem, because I highly doubt you could get an electric vehicle to do the workload of a big rig hauling a 40 ft trailer fully loaded over the Rockies. so i think gas engines will be used in industry for a long time to come.
this hummer doesn't get 100mpg, like the title says, and it won't get 80mpg like Arnold states in the video. that's a huge overshoot number. it would get closer to 60-70mpg with a daily driver behind the wheel.

You make excellent points, but the "average driver" behind the wheel will be somewhat buffered, the gas engine is only running at max efficiency (no throttle input from driver) so maybe it would be a bit better than you think, no way to tell until these are on the road and abused like our other vehicles :D
If it has regenerative braking (and it must with that city rating) it is possible to really stretch out that charge even on highway drives. Pulse/Glide...

Plenty of balls here, and the onboard gas engine will be right around 150+ HP to turn that 100 KW generator (= 133 HP) but no direct connection to the wheels... I know it is confusing. Ont he highway is when electric cars start generating enough current to power the car. I imagine it has 6 or four cylinders for city travel, which would get much less mpg. Electric cars only switch to electricity on the highway. I hope this helps, it is hard to understand. Picture it as a half gas/half electric hybrid
Umm the hummer uses electric power from electric power first then the next 50 miles will run on gas while the car is getting charged till 80% capacity then it runs back on electric again for the next miles again. Hence this was said to be calculated to be 100mpg

Energy is NOT free. And to push a 6000 pound car, regardless what type of energy you use. That energy has to come from somewhere. F=MA always true. Regardless you use electricity or gas. And when you choice electric. You will go thru 3x more conversion than gas, each conversion you lose some energy. Instead of chemical -> heat ->motion, if you produce elec. By burn coal, gas of some sort (70% of energy produced this way in the US)
Your energy conversion chart from a coal power plant is chemical (burning of coal/natural gas) heat motion (power plant) magnetic (+/- field) (mag field required to produce electricity) electricity transmission of electricity (average about 11% lost in the process) chemical (charging battery pack) back to electricity magnetic motion so as an engineer, Id say you probably end up use (Lose) lot more energy than a simple gas powered car

Wrong pal the H-1 is the only one that will haul my boat up the ramp at the Kihei boat ramp. We have tried it with the Ford and Dodge and neither will stop the trailer and boat from being pulled back into the water (with hilarious results) The Ford will pull it out of the water but the Dodge won't. I said "6mpg towing" it gets 16 on the road with no weight on it. The H-1 fits in my garage and their are no other options. If you have a suggestion please forward it. Arnold sucks deal with it.

You make excellent points, but the "average driver" behind the wheel will be somewhat buffered, the gas engine is only running at max efficiency (no throttle input from driver) so maybe it would be a bit better than you think, no way to tell until these are on the road and abused like our other vehicles :D
If it has regenerative braking (and it must with that city rating) it is possible to really stretch out that charge even on highway drives. Pulse/Glide...

This is the only part of your statement that looks odd, Electric motors have MAX TORQUE @ Zero RPM! Plenty of balls here, and the onboard gas engine will be right around 150+ HP to turn that 100 KW generator (= 133 HP) but no direct connection to the wheels... I will be a first level hotrodder of this technology, I already have most of the training :)

As an NCO in the Army it is proper protocol by the UCMJ to refer to the person whom you are speaking as either their title(IE) Dr. President, Governor, etc., or Sir, Mister, Misses, Miss or Ma'am. Actually the H-1 costs over 100,000.00 US which is spit compared to how much money the thing has made me hauling a 28,000 lb. boat daily for 4 years and still managing 6mpg. Their is no other vehicle that will fit in my Garage that CAN do that. Maybe I should just find another job, eh. Did I get this right? The Hummer gets 100 mpg and you can travel 400 miles on one tank of gas. So this vehicle has a 4 gallon gas tank???? That doesn't make sense.

I know it is confusing. Ont he highway is when electric cars start generating enough current to power the car. I imagine it has 6 or four cylinders for city travel, which would get much less mpg. Electric cars only switch to electricity on the highway. I hope this helps, it is hard to understand. Picture it as a half gas/half electric hybrid

Umm the hummer uses electric power from electric power first then the next 50 miles will run on gas while the car is getting charged till 80% capacity then it runs back on electric again for the next miles again. Hence this was said to be calculated to be 100mpg

Energy is NOT free. And to push a 6000 pound car, regardless what type of energy you use. That energy has to come from somewhere. F=MA always true. Regardless you use electricity or gas. And when you choice electric. You will go thru 3x more conversion than gas, each conversion you lose some energy. Instead of chemical -> heat ->motion, if you produce elec. By burn coal, gas of some sort (70% of energy produced this way in the US)

Wrong pal the H-1 is the only one that will haul my boat up the ramp at the Kihei boat ramp. We have tried it with the Ford and Dodge and neither will stop the trailer and boat from being pulled back into the water (with hilarious results) The Ford will pull it out of the water but the Dodge won't. I said "6mpg towing" it gets 16 on the road with no weight on it. The H-1 fits in my garage and their are no other options. If you have a suggestion please forward it. Arnold sucks deal with it.

Why? The batteries. Mining, milling, refining packaging and shipping. They are nonrecyclable, toxic, and require us to burn fuel to charge them.
If you want to help the environment--walk--the equipment is built in. If you must drive, maintain an older, fuel efficient vehicle.
