Hey Luke do you know when and why they changed the name from puzzle bobble to Bust a move? or is Puzzle Bobble the Japanese name and Bust a Move is the American name?
yeah, not really sure but it has some glitches at the title screen and in game, the characters aren't very clear. Sound seems fine and I've tried it in different slots but no change and this is the only one of my carts that has problems. Can't say for sure if it is a bootleg copy or not but some parts just don't look right.
Yup, never came out on the AES. Only CD and MVS. In general I think they change the names on them because either (A) the name is too hard to pronounce or translate (B) it's too long and (C) because at times it can be cheesy as hell.
Yeah, I own the CD version as well. Think by using the the Bubble Bobble characters and even "Bobble" in the name, it helped to promote the game enough. Not sure on how they worked around the audio speeds but I'm having a bit of curiosity if the one I have is bootleg or not. It has 2 windowed EPROM in it and it is glitchy at the beginning and won't change so it might be a copy. Works none the less but it's not perfect.
I think i remember playing a clone of this game when i was 4 or 6 years old. It was dinosaur themed.

Puzzle Bubble never came out on AES right? only on CD.
also why was it renamed "bust a move" in the west? I thought Puzzle Bobble was a great pun!
and the Japanese game that was called bust a move was renamed bust a groove because of so.

But there was the familiar branding, a lot of people knew and loved Bubble Bobble. So that was a step back from them.
Also did you ever play the CD version? Just curious how they got around the audio changing speeds? (Unless it wasn't redbook audio).

You mean you think the MVS or the CD is a copy?
Best way to check an MVS is to try and peek in and see if there's any copyrighted names or logos on the chips.
Pirates will nearly never steal copyright as it's a bigger crime than software piracy.
