  • I can be picky despite my appeal because its my life and body. The only woman I'll ever fall for is someone with her strong mindset.

  • Gosh what a woman.

  • i love you Nina

  • She shouldn't change for anyone she said what she felt NINA 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • An admirable artist and truly controversial. Her shade of brown is different than mine, but I'm sure we both bleed the same color. I like that I can disagree with her an yet she can make me still admire her. My money did not contribute to her personal convictions but was well spent on them shiny gold eye shadow.

  • Nina those songs may have hurt your career but they have may you an immortal and that is better than any fame or money. That is what we live for.

  • @YEELKEED Agreed. Nothing is more valuable than immortalizing yourself through true art.

  • I'm looking for the interview with Nina Simone where she says something like "My career has been a bit of a mistake. I wish I had become the world's first black classical pianist instead." Can anyone help me???

  • @DeezCowz here: dammit you cant link youtube

  • She has it all...... That is She has all that is required....!

    GREAT PERFORMER

    GREAT LADY

    GRAET HUMAN BEING

  • a lady of honor and wisdom

  • total sell out

  • She is greatness.

  • Mississipppii God damn

  • NiNa is not a SeLL-OuT! MoveMent LIVES!

  • This interview is delicious. How long can it be expected for others to fight ones battles....Even into their golden years. Have we no balls? No cunts left? The interviewer is the initiave of the one that is being interviewed. What a great respect as these two trade comments of that which the ohter wishes to posses. Delicious. Nina Simone...Nice.. angry-so silly or not...

  • The interviewer is absolutely annoying and a harbinger of what was to become of television journalism over the next thirty years: obssessed with celebrity, trivial, and depthless.

To have interviewed Nina Simone and asked questions of her in such a trivial and frivolous way is scandalous.

  • There still aren't any leaders for human rights.

  • REALNESS at its best!...... She SUCH THE TRUTH!!

  • When did you pass?

  • @adrina911 april 03

  • may you rest in peace. don't regret you sung those songs - you were a true hero!

  • I F'ing love her.

  • Its quite disheartening when musicians with so much depth say that if they were rich beyond belief the would quit. I hate that.

  • @fcmilsweeper9 well actually - like she said "there is no more civil rights movement" - when you've given it your all and there is no more reason to continue doing what u do - why NOT give it a rest and enjoy your life? The industry is all about sell out chicks like Nicki Minaj. Nina Simone is not about entertainment.

  • @fcmilsweeper9 She doesnt mean that she would quit music. she means she would quit selling her music

Its not an artists duty to satisfy their audience. I hate when people think that way. Artists arnt obliged to us. They dont owe us anything. SHARING your art with the world is just a way to do what you love everyday and still pay the bills

  • @fcmilsweeper9 ...5 mos. later...we have to understand that people(any of us) tend to speak expressively when they are in a comfortable setting. Ms Simone is known to us simply because she was true to self and expressed what was within her. What she says in an interview is purely rhetorical because her actions is what made her relevant to us all. God Bless you, Nina Simone!

  • @asheyblacq ..NINA IS QUEEN LADY SIMONE, SUNG HER STORY OF THE OPPRESSION FROM THE WHITE AGITATORS IN A TIME WHEN SHE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, WHITEMAN,KEPT HIS FOOT ON HER BACK ,SO SHE COULDN'T RISE TO STAND UP, SELF EXILE SHE HAD TO FLEE FOR HER LIFE, JESUS FLED TOO,SET US FREE, SET US FREE, ARMASTEAUD, SET US FREE, WE'RE BITTER CAUSE OUR PARENTS WERE SLAVES, REPARATIONS MURDERERS, BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS, THERE WILL BE A BACKLASH NINAS' BACKLASH YOU WILL FEEL IT, IT'S COMING WATCH

  • nina simone me inicio no jazz ate hoje nao achei musica e cantora melhor.

  • I LOVE HER. xxx

  • perfect interview, genuine, unscripted and touching.

  • Ebony and Jet are African American magazines, but I wouldn't call them "blacks only"--anyone can read them.

  • @relatham1 Of course. I, myself, as a white person, listen to a lot more music written, composed, produced by african american people. and i don't care. i listen to it because i like it.

it's just that i can't help thinking that people seem so segregated some places in the US. why make a magazine that is only about african-americans? or whites? i think it's interesting. everybody speak the same language, share the same interests... anyway I'm just young and from another continent

    cheers

  • @Partyphotographer while diversity is a very important step in human relations it is important that each culture not only maintain their identity but also take the time to share that identity.

I am all for the universal knowledge that blowing on the Nintendo cartridge makes it all better; but how can I relate to the threat of lice? How can you relate to the argument of relaxer versus natural in the work place? There are some things that are culturally in-house and that should not be a bad thing.

  • @Partyphotographer I fully understand your point, but this is a very biased society. Ebony, Jet, and Essence exist because blacks weren't (and still aren't) portrayed enough in "mainstream" magazines...it's not about segregating ourselves, it's about exposing us fairly. Look at Vogue, Cosmo, Marie Claire, and any other big publication and tell me what's the majority that you see? Exactly!

  • @hellokittycutie2003 i'm a guy and so i am not familiar with such magazines, but I guess you're right, and it makes a lot more sense to me now. as i said before it is as much a big question to me when it comes to featuring-whites-only

  • i'm not American. is this a blacks-only magazine?

by the way, i love nina simone!

  • This is such a great interview. Both Nina and the interviewee are so involved, so emotional and honest.

  • She was a brave soul for producing records like mississippi got damn. However, in this interview I wished she would've stood behind her desicion to produce those records and not regret the freedom that she provoked in that era.

  • I love her because she is so honest. I have so much respect for her. I wish she was still alive so i could see her in concert. :)

  • ICON!! what more can we say

  • I toured with Ms. Simone in 1988.

    I live in Hawaii now.

  • She was the truth!

  • i love her!!

  • I love her. She's so honest, so real and you feel her music in your heart. A true gem.

  • amazing !! for real...

  • Ms. Simone was the TRUTH! SMH @ what our "artists" have come to.

  • Nina, I wrote you a letter one day last week. I know it arrived to you on butterfly wings.

  • it hurts to see an artist like this having to apologize or be penalized for their art, all of the songs she named are great songs! i guess in her old age, the expressive fiery passion of youth gave way to wanting to be "safe" and "relevant"

  • Very brave, very authentic, Nina. Love you, Nina.

  • I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you,I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, I Love you, NINA!!

  • Mississippi Goddamn is one of the best songs ever. It's sad to hear that she wouldn't do it again.

  • there are no civil rights..!

    hear!

  • @311813511 - I tried being an activist and received no support especially for my family.

  • such honesty! u don't find that in today's papermaiche mic-humping pin up dolls!

  • i will always love and respect the mind and the love of Nina Simone!!!

  • "(i'd take my 5 million) ... go find my porgy ag'in 'n marry him." haha!

  • what an elegant and unbelievably talented woman !

  • Land of freedom...

  • i wish i had the privilege to meet her so i could talk to her

  • Nina is fierce

  • Please, please, someone post Nina's 1969 What's My Line appearance.

  • She is truth. I feel all of what she said. Black people need to open up and see that civil rights is a on going thing that needs to be personal and public,in what we do and say and feel. I want to see more Nina Simones strong black woman who don't need to sell sex to sing a song just have faith in your gift not your tits and ass, because sex aint nothing new.

  • @1and2makes4

    enter jill scott.

  • I just read her biography by david brun-lambert....I absolutely fell in love with nina...she was so strong, so real, so genuine....DAMN!!!!

  • i STILL say DAMN Mississippi!!

  • Nina Simone was f%^&%^ over more than any other performing artist, period. She got screwed out of dozens of recording deals, and, as she says, some of her controversial songs resulted in her being boycotted.

What a brave and graceful woman, she gives met the chills, warms my heart and reminds me of the tremendous inner strength that is harboured within each and every one of us.

  • @quintenabramrutgers You speak my mind EXACTLY!! There is nothing else to say when THE truth has been said about a thing.

  • @quintenabramrutgers If there was indeed inner strenght in all the worlds population... like this woman has shown... then racism wouldn't excist! It is when we are confronted with the ugliest revelations of humanbehaviour that our strenght is tested....

  • You're not entirely correct. Initially she didn't want to be a singer. She wanted to study classical piano. She was very indifferent to recording/getting a contract, seeing it as just a way to advance her piano studies. it was HER choice to sell the rights to her royalties for $3,000 (costing her millions), just as it was her choice to let her husband (a police office, who knew nothing about the music business) manage her career & finances. Her self imposed "exile" was over unpaid taxes.

  • @quintenabramrutgers - I admired her for her conviction. I was ignorant how people like her risked their life to be an activist. She sang and spoke the truth. I have over six of her cds.

  • @quintenabramrutgers Beautifully put!!

  • Nina Simone didn't have $5M? That's chump change, jeez how much have her songs netted the industry over the years????

  • Love Nina!

  • nina simone is a true jazz & blues singer! amen!

  • She put the cross back down because it became too heavy just like the rest of America.......not good

  • i don't understand why she says that about Mississippi Goddamn... i understand because of the music industry. that is a song to be proud of

  • F the industry Nina. You had to get things of your chest. Robeson went thru it and many others. And now you are a legend!!

  • I love her frankness.

  • This woman was nothing short of a prophetess.

The truth is out there, and if you wanna find it then listen to Miss Simone.

  • Jemal99 . . . it's not hatred it's hurt. And if you were me and mine, you would know what difference is.

  • Q: In terms of the civil rights movement, How far have we come? A: There are no civil rights.

  • you can tell through most off her interviews that she had hidden hated towards America for what they did to her people.

  • Thank you, Nina...

  • Actually she left because she was being hounded by creditors and the IRS. She went away to Barbados on a vacation and had intended for her husband to follow her, but when he discovered her wedding ring left on the nightstand (by accident, though he didn't know), he took it as a symbolic gesture that she wanted a divorce (they had been estranged). After he left her the creditors starting knocking. She stayed away from the US even after the fact.

  • not entirely true...as usual, someone skews the facts.

  • Then someone skewed them before me. I got my information from someone else. I'd be open to reading other published information with a different account of what happened.

  • lol this is straight from the internet.. copy and paste from wilki!!

  • I love this WOMAN!

shes such an inpiration to me, thank you for everything!

  • Mississippi Godamn is one of my favourite songs

It's a song about someone wanting to behave in a caring way in a crazy unfair world and is still relevant today for everyone

    god DAMN!!

  • what's inequality in America? Whites not giving a non white some shit. Please. We need to get the fuck out this country and die in our own land. Fuck this shit. America is gonna get it from the Muslims for they are doing to them in the middle east(this countries last war!) and I don't want to be here when they get their asses kicked.

  • run nina!

  • She makes me sad. I understand her anger and saddness. I still get hatefull eyes on me but I can't be hateful anymore, I want this world to, I WANT THIS COUNTRY! TO MOVE ON! To much hate, we'll never evolve and grow..I truely hope she found peace when she died.

  • I love this woman so much....tis still very hard to watch footage of this legend, doesnt matter what she says, always brings tears to my eyes

  • nina I LOVE UUUUUUUUU

  • she said they have treated her so well that she wont do it......she sold out.... i don't blame her ... i wouldn't. but noticed she named all black men.. and she said they are gone.. they are gone.. who would protect her ? a queen in a war that has been lost because all the real men are gone!!!!!!!!! and where does that leave us.. me.. i will stand up when i get my knowledge up and send this fake democracy real republic to the place where it belongs and if i shall die trying at least i tried!!!

  • she says that her music, which sings about ending inequality, is no longer relevant to the times.

    HOW FALSE!!!!

THERE IS STILL SOOO MUCH INEQUALITY!!!!!

  • SHE SOLD OUT!!!!!!!!

  • @treehuggerdude4 I'm reading your comments 2 yrs. later and disagree. You can't sell out when you don't reap any tangible benefits from your efforts. I believe Ms. Simone is purely reflecting on the sacrificial affects of her art in regards to financial gain that other artists were receiving during the time of this interview.

  • dang..... she is brilliant.

......but jaded. And sad. And 100% right.

  • haunting voice, fierce mind and a sharp tongue. a true diva.

  • she´s a dream.

  • the industry does this to all great artists, creative geniuses!

  • A fucking treat. A real artist, and a classy lady.

  • Ain't she wonderful?!

  • I love Nina Simone!

  • i love this!!!!

  • NIna pure GENUS i luv her

  • I didn't know Nina was that witty. She's a legend.

  • So glad she can't "take them back" but, yeah, the industry took her--and of her black artists contemporaries--for a ride. R.I.P. Dear Sister. May we take your gifts and run with them!

  • Her music was/is awesome, we still have a fight none of what the civil rights leader did are for nought, much love r.i.p. Nina:)

  • YOU can go to hell. Wait a minute, your already going there so... People like you are the curse of the earth. Good for nothing, destroyers of everything good.

  • nina simone didnt mention balm in gilead! that song i like so much..lol one thing for sure--she was keeping it real during this interview. who was the lady interviewing nina??
