Whatever you say man I'm done discussing this with you I could care less. I have CCW and I would advise you and anyone else to do so if you have not already. Thats all I have to say about that.
I have my Ohio CHL and use it for what its needed for and nothing more. I read no more into the law requiring for car carry or concealment nor do I mandate anyone to do the same. As for the CHL law regulating something that just 100 years ago was not that is another argument. Sorry you feel that way. Good luck and be safe.
I must first say that yes I am also an Ohio resident, and I have heard numerous times where the law enforcement stopped someone who was OC because they themselves did not know the laws of OC, however, I think it is irresponisble for them to let just anybody who buys a gun, to be able to open carry without having any proper training (not saying you dont have training), but I think it is wrong for an inexperienced 21 year old to be able to OC right out of the gun shop with no prior training.
@ABorell12 We didn't have mandatory training or restriction for OC when the Second Amendment was ratified and there is no reason for it now. Still, I support your right to express your quite civil opinion. All discussion is productive.
@ABorell12 Would you support denying of a 21 year old the vote if they failed to achieve a C in civics class? We are talking the same thing constitutionally.
@ohioleadslinger Thats not the same thing at all here buddy. We are talking abut carrying a firearm. A FIREARM. Where things can go terribly wrong. With voting you might elect the wrong person. Who cares we've done that for 10 straight years so far.
@ABorell12 wow thats a terrible biased opinion and a bad reason to deny a 21 year a right to oc...just bc they r 21 doesnt by any means mean that they r inexperienced and inexperience most of the time doesnt cause problems with guns...u could have someone with 30 years experience with a gun make the same mistakes a 16 year old with a gun could make..its about WHO is carrying them...NOT how old they are
@ABorell12 What about the 19 -18 year old combat vet who has more training with a fire arm than most police officers do? You can have a 40 year old who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn that would be a worse canidate for any type of carry than a teenage soldier or Marine. My point is the law is meant to fit everybody and age with handguns isn't necessarily a measurement of maturity or skill
I knowwhat it was about I watched all ten of the videos and read the comments. I was just simply stating that as I support our right to open carry. I don't think its a great Idea. I was just trying to respond to the open carry good/bad idea comments and the comments about some who is open carrying is likely to be left alone, which I do not think is the case. but YES i did bother to know what the story is about.
@ABorell12 I agree that Concelaed carry for me is a tactical advantage but some of us are OCing at times to keep a right in the eye of the public and to make a point to LE when they mistakenly harass a fellow CC or OC'r which is happening daily here in Ohio. We have LE that are mistakenly trying to enforce very old CC laws that have changed. You wouldn't believe how unimportant it is to them to know the laws. Can any other segment of the population get away with doing their job that poorly?
@ohioleadslinger Again While I AGREE that the LE SHOULD KNOW THESE LAWS, and WE DO HAVE THE RIGHT, I also believe that maybe these laws should have some kind of training requirements like the CCW courses. If someone who never shot a gun before or knows nothing about them, walks out of the gun shop with his first gun, carrying it on his hip, it could be a tragic day for himself or others. I am not saying we should do away with OC at all, I am just saying there should be requirements of training
Yes it is our right to open carry, but its not very smart. If a bad guy sees your gun, he might have a gun and point it at your head from point blank and demand yours and take it. Or, he sees your gun, and comes from behind you and takes it, and uses it against you. Or you could do it the right way, and carry concealed, and when he points a gun at your head and demands your property, you act like you are reaching to give him your money and you draw your gun quickly and threat is over.
@ABorell12 Did you bother to find out what this whole OC walk was about? I was about protesting poor treatment of a Concealed Carrier by Northwood law enforcement and their lack of knowledge on the laws they were employed with our dollars to enforce..I have to know all the codes and requirement to do my job in construction or I get fined or penalized. Apparently law enforcement officers do not have to know any law at all. They can just guess at it. Please go to the OFCC link in my profile.
This demonstration is like throwing it in the face of law enforcement that citizens are allowed to open carry. Go ahead and open carry but why provoke or antagonize the police with demonstrations like this?
If you care check out what brought this whole thing up then you would realize it was about LE abuse of a concealed carry licensee. Google "Northwood PD ofcc" then look for this.
I live in Las Vegas and OC all the time. It's not a big deal. No one panics and you just go on about your business. But then attitude and manner helps along with not dressing like thug. I am considering getting my CCW but have'nt found a need for it so far.
We need to remember that this Open carry was in response to the local law enforcement not knowing the law and thinking that one must keep his gun completely hidden if you have a concealed handgun license. While I carry concealed 99% of the time I do OC here and there. It has it's place as a deterrent. Each has its merits. Both support our second amendment rights.
I'm sorry firstwave, I'm sure you have received more training than I did as an 11B officer in the Army.
Let me ask you something? Have you ever fired a weapon at somebody? Have you ever been shot at? How about blown up? Been to the ghettos of Iraq to clear buildings, and rooms?
tdog was trolling and not adding to the discussion so his comments went bye bye and he was banned. I encourage discussion. I do not tolerate trolling.
Why did you remove your comment? Afraid to show your ignorance? You told me to F off, and that you would carry how you want.
If you think that carrying open, and not training is a good idea, the you are even more ignorant than you make yourself out to be. I hope I'm not around you when the wolf enters the scene.
The open carry law is outdated, and should be rescinded.
Firstwave:
Leave the carrying of firearms to the responsibly trained individuals/professionals--
I can't see where Open Carry should be recinded, Never give up rights. Ever. The second amendment is under attack all the time, never give the antis more ammo or traction . I would hate to think your service for this country to protect its freedoms was fo naught as I respect all those that serve. Please lets keep this civil.
Good judgment is also key. Never draw your weapon unless you are sure there is serious mortal/physical danger to someone else or your self. Also keep your back-drop in mind if you do fire. Is there anyone standing behind your target? Are you 100% sure you can hit your target without hitting civilians? Remember, Assess, Acquire, then fire. Remember to always train, and keep your skills shatp.
ha ha, you answered a question I was thinking about. I don't see a problem with people carrying guns. The only problem I would have are ignorant people who think shooting first, thinking second is the way to go. Agree with you 100%, only shoot when there is no other option. Sometimes drawing your weapon will be enough to deter any further escalation in a situation. If need be no worries, defense is just a finger pull away. No need to be trigger happy! Respect for human life comes 1st.
The only way to carry responsibly is concealed. If you decide to carry, make sure you are proficient with your weapon. Also train with your holster, and practice drawing/ concealment techniques. Remember that carrying a weapon is taking on an extreme responsibility. You may have to take down someone in a pressured situation. That is where muscle memory, and training come in. If you are not ready to kill to protect others and yourself, don't carry.
Oh, by the way, inducing panic is against the law, and you can go to jail for this. Say you walk into a big boy (#11) and people start to panic over your weapon. You will go to jail. Even though it is legal, the police are very much against carrying your weapon in the open. This law is obsolete and needs to be rescinded. If you want to carry, first of all you must be willing to accept the responsibility that comes with it.
Go ahead and open carry everywhere you go. One of these days the sight of that gun will induce panic. Tell me after your arrested for inducing panic, that you cannot be arrested for it. The two laws are separate, you will be arrested no matter the reason.
It has been found that OC doesn't meet the statute for Inducing panic . A holstered gun isn't a brandished gun. The charge can be made of course, any charge can be made by any LEA. Being charged isn't being convicted and presidents have been set that make it no crime. If simply carrying a gun is inducing panic then hunting would be illegal.
First of all, saying that "we are all soldiers" is an insult to soldiers/ ex-soldiers. I was Army Infantry for a long time, and served two tours in Iraq. I earned the term soldier with the sweat, training, and real world missions that I accomplished. Second, carrying a weapon in the open is idiotic. Why would you carry a weapon openly in public? To give the would-be criminal a heads up on who to shoot first? This isn't the wild west, and carrying a weapon openly is uncalled for.
I didn hear anyone saying we were soldiers, where did you get that? I don't think you ever took the time to find out what this whole thing was about. It was about a guy that was harrased not for open carry but for some off duty police seeing 15% of his holster poking out under his vest.
Amen brother. I am a native Californian and have lived here all of my 26 years, but as soon as possible I will be moving to Idaho (I have a lot of family there). I don't plan on ever coming back. There is nothing here worth giving up my freedom and liberty for. Whoever wants California can have her.
