Xbox 360 freezing at Startup! Need assistance. No Red-Ring!! rare

same problem... it seems to be a HD problem. Take out HD and so far my xbox works great w/out HD once I put in the HD it does the same thing

For me it started doing it after a Fallout 3 crash. I took out the HD and restarted the xbox. it loaded fine. I turned it off and put the HD back. it started fine and then I just performed maintenance on the HD through the HD menu. After 5 minutes of being on same thing again, it just crashed in the menu option. I don't know what to make of it.

@odkb your xbox is overheating. Make sure you have plenty of room around it for air to circulate, keep it away from tv or other sources of heat. Clean the cpu & gpu chips & heat sinks & apply new Arctic Silver thermal paste.

(clean them first) If it still freezes, your fans are not doing the job. Hook them to a 12 v DC external power source.

had same problem twice. on both occasions it was after a few weeks of disuse. i also discovered your solution (i.e. leaving it on frozen screen to warm up). this little trick works a treat. nothing else had worked (even taking it apart to airdust the CPU and fan). Can't understand why this happens.....and why hasn't Microsoft posted this soution on their website?

Its The Mother board if you play on it for say 2/1 hr streak the mother board over heats not as much as it would for the RROD but iv got The Fucking RROD

I just bought a used original 360, it starts up to the user screen? it even plays for a breif minute or two.... what is the problem? I took it apart, clean all the dust out, got the mother board out and cleaned it.... help please

Mines freezes everytime i log on to XBL dashboard,like if i try to access anything at the dashboard while im online it freezes and i need help.but when im playin a game i can log onto XBL just fine

Mine too, have you tried unplugging the cable (to TV) and plug it back? Yea, that machine may need to warm up. Sometimes, I have to let it warm up for few minutes or retry, having frozen few times before I can actually play a game. Yes, it is frustrating. It has no ring of death, I am afraid if I send to Microsoft, they will send it back to me as if it's the same.

Alright...I don't have a fix YET. Me and my brother have been working on an xbox we got from a friend that would freeze at the same screen as you, and before anyone screams X-CLAMP FIX, the guy before us ALREADY did it. Guess what, it really isn't a fix, the x-clamp is not always the culprit. We took the heat sinks off and repasted em and all that jazz, and now we can get into and use dashboard, and get 3 min into a game before a freeze. So RROD or not, its still a heat problem...

@pikagod x-clamp is a fix, that works, But only for some errors, anyone with an old xbox should buy the x-clamp fix, it does wonders. the reason for the x clamp fix, is because the standard heatsink got to hot. when it gets too hot it cooks the gpu and the solder heats up and after time becomes lose, with the fix it basicly keeping the gpu in place so when the solder heats up it doesn't move or become lose. Try looking Airflow xbox mod.also new fan or 12v mod.airflow is just cardboard and tape

At first it was one red ring, then I turned off the xbox, disconnect all cables,HD ..

tried to start again...no signals or lights from the xbox,

can not hear anything, everything is plugged in properly...

Xbox360 is dead! Nothing happens.

@mw2nigz2 sorry but this surely means that RROD is closely... it firstly freezed-up when i was on the dashboard! i didn't turned on my xbox for 2 days, the 3rd day nothing happened so i played halo 3, but i took a break, and when i came back to play i booted it and freezes again, but now at the startup and the screen was "checkerboarded" i shut it down, again turned it on and PLOP! the fucking 3 red lights appeared! now my xbox is being fixed by microsoft :( sorry

everybody... check this, plug out the internet cable. Then it works fine for me, only when Im online. Also, after clearing the system cache of xbox, it doesnt go loud anymore but it freezes.

i inspected the mother board i pushed each connection. (putting pressure on transistor and diode for an attempt to reconnect any inconsistant circuits) and cleaned the cpu and now it works fine.

just got that today no rrod. ihavent palyed my xbox 360 for like 2 months and turned it on today it starts up then makes a funny noise then freezes and the screens all fuzzie. i heard its signs of the rrod they said ill eventually get it.. easy fix though didnt try it on this xbox yet but did it in the past to others
