The choice of fire bombs was a recommendation from Col. Paul Tibbets to Gen.Lemay at a bbq stateside in the early spring of 1945. Col. Tibbets had seen a exercise with fire bombs at Eglin field and told Lemay, Japan is made of wood, I'd send in the B-29s at low altitude and just area bomb those city's! The fire bomb raids on Japan still did NOT end the war and I quote Col. Tibbets: Our job was to bring the Emperor to his knees and we didn't very much care how we did it.
