If i'm not mistaken, the E60 M5 had almost 300 ft lbs of torque at 1500 RPM. At only 1500 RPM, it had more torque than 4 out of 5 trucks and S.U.V.'s being produced today.
And you complain about the sound? Youre a part of the minority. Everybody loved the wail of that V10. It was never meant to out sing a Ferrari since its still a family sedan...and theres exhaust out there that rivals GT3 cars if you want it.
@medz91xc I drive a 2006. I admit “torqueless” is strong, but not far off. The E60’s first sign of life is actually ~240 lbs-ft, and not until ~2,500rpm. Add a small tank (ergo horrible range), MPG that constantly misses the teens in town and a dated SMG, and you get an less than endearing *urban* driving experience – regardless of the V10's glory on highways. Frustrating. Agreed, the E60’s note is way sweeter than the F10’s; but compared to the the Carrera GT & Lexus LFA, BMW missed the mark.

I'll take a neutral standpoint, the CTS-V is without a doubt a behemoth and really unexpected to perform as well as it does, especially from GM. Yes there pushrod V8 is prehistoric but Im sure if you putting that throttle to the ground listening to that BIg bore V8 howl you wouldnt give a damn who or what made it. BMW makes cars that can drive well in all the best aspects, of driving, steering feel, throttle response, handling, and car balance. Wins nothing outright but perfectly balanced.

I'll take a neutral standpoint, the CTS-V is without a doubt a behemoth and really unexpected to perform as well as it does, especially from GM. Yes there pushrod V8 is prehistoric but Im sure if you putting that throttle to the ground listening to that BIg bore V8 howl you wouldnt give a damn who or what made it. BMW makes cars that can drive well in all the best aspects, of driving, steering feel, throttle response, handling, and car balance. Wins nothing outright but perfectly balanced.

This is gay. I always liked M cars for their naturally aspirated high revving engines. Now it's just like all other new cars coming out with turbos. Not especial in the engine no more. Nothing beats the sound of a high revving engine going to redline

And sure, the 2nd gen is slightly faster than the E60. Yippie, good for it. I would expect the V to be faster after the E60 beat the living piss out of the 1st gen. CTS V back in 04'...it took GM about 5 years to barely pass the 5 year old E60 M5. Thats pathetic.

2) It took GM 5 years to barely beat the E60 M5 and then V fanboys came out of the shadow and jumped on the Vs dick.

Really? That surprises me. Here in America, theyre everywhere. Not as much as the big 3 from German (BMW, Merc, and Audi) but theyre plentiful.
I actually dont mind the CTS itself or the V, since they have numbers to back up their claims and reputation. But when people start blindly talking about the M5 as if its a peice of shit to the "almighty" CTS V, then that's when I have a say in it because 9 out of 10 times they have no knowledge of cars.

@medz91xc Ive driven the F10 and the steering is lifeless, Ive driven econoboxes with more steering feel. Sure, putting the car into Sport+ gives it more weight, but it doesn't make up for the fact it's numbtastic.

@medz91xc The E60 M5 was launched in 2005, the 2nd gen V was launched in 2008, so technically 3 years.
I guess I'm the minority that still prefers a car that I control. But hell, Ive actually driven these cars before.
And Fiat owns GM? At this point you have just about zero creditability. But honestly, I love the new M5 and want one bad, but to talk badly about the V, or any of the M5's other competitors (E63, XFR, etc.) is just bullshit.

I only hope when I get a chance to ride in the new M5 that it isn't as lifeless as the F10's. They just don't have the sort of driver involvement of older BMW's.

Every time there is a German car review, the ignorant rednecks start comparing it to CTS. They probably have never been in a BMW, for them CTS-V and Camaro are the world beaters. & still for a fact the E60 ///M5 was way more luxurious w/ way more gizmos than a top of the line caddy had! Sure the CTS-V is cheaper but thats cause luxury wise it was only @ best 1 series level! Try to claim the CTS-V is luxurious but if you wanna compete w/ the 3 giants in Germany you have to go over the top on every engineering standpoint & make something so simple into an highly engineered item!

@Behindthepaper i personally have driven a 2nd gen CTS-V & a E60 ///M5 & yes the E60 ///M5 is my ultimate dream & Favorite car of all time due to the fact its a sedan with a monster V10, & yes i felt the difference in the two but my main flaw of the E60 was torque! i my self own a STS-V only cause of overall price, & modd cost & since i am still going to college the E60 was out of my league! but i felt the difference in the CTS-V yet i enjoyed & felt like a kid more in the E60

@Behindthepaper & the fact when i sat in the E60 i felt special & i felt i was in a true luxury car with all the Gizmos, & the fact that the CTS-V was fun to drive there wasnt enough specialties in it! i mean i saw so much GM Bin parts in it it wasnt even funny! & you can tell the CTS-V was built with a very limited budget thats why the low price yet thats why the E60 was more cause it was more pationate in creation more thought was put in throughout the whole car!

@ratmtbola LMAO! You have no idea what you're talking about at all. The CTS-V absolutely smoked the last-gen M5, and the next gen CTS-V will do the same thing again. The E63 is also a hugely competent contender against both the CTS-V and the F10 M5, especially now with the 5.5 Biturbo. We'll have to wait and see.

The CTS-V did NOT 'smoke' the last-gen M5, it was just slightly faster. And that's no wonder as the CTS-V got 556HP while the old M5 only had 500HP. And for a power advantage of almost 60HP, the CTS-V actually didn't look all too bright compared to the M5. Not to talk about handling, where the M5 has ALWAYS outhandled its competitors.
