In the comment below you said stetson was a puppyintraing aswell if they are going to disabled people why do you have him? Will you get to keep dublin?
@carlie9115 I'm sorry for any confusion. Stetson was a puppy in training, but he was dropped from the program a few months before he was to graduate. Since I was his puppy raiser I had the first option to adopt him. If I didn't adopt him then he would have entered the guide dog adoption program.
Dubiln has about 3 more months of intense training at the school and hopefully he will graduate and become a working guide dog. If he gets dropped then I will most likely adopt him as well.
Helo, Colby .. unfortunately my older beagle Maza is...died. I said never again DOG! I only lasted three weeks and took the puppy JRT. It is quite something else than beagle and Labrador Retriever;-), sorrow and pain for Mazom is still too strong, but the puppy Eliza gives me strength. It has everything that you Colby offer an in your video, advise. Super did you do that. Thank you for learning.
@espeonxXxjolteon you can adopt a career changed guide dog. However, at our school there's currently a six year waiting list and they aren't accepting new applications. You might try checking one of the other guide dogs schools across the country if you're interested in adopting a career changed guide dog.
@GuideDogsForever yes we get to name our pups. However, there are a few rules. Each litter is assigned a letter and your pups name has to start with that letter. Dublin is in the "D" litter. You can't choose a name that's already in use by a working guide, puppy in training, or breeder in the program. That's about it...as soon as we find out our litter letter we send our list of potential names to the puppy department and they tell us which names are available.
@GuideDogGrownUp What litter letter did you get? Did you choose a name for your new puppy yet? We have a couple of puppy raisers from our Orange County group picking up puppies at the end of the month.
Thanks everyone for stopping by and checking out our first Puppy In Training TV video. We're doing our best to get our second video up on the site (probably early next week). If you have any questions or specific things you'd like to see in our videos please don't hesitate to leave us a comment and we'll do our best to try and accommodate your request.
We picked up 2 yr. old Maffy at the City Shelter in 1986. Colby,Miko, Gerry said he was so smart, cute etc...he did all these tricks. We brought him home...what a surprise, he couldn't recall any of the tricks! Guess he wanted out fast! Note: We were 3rd on the waiting list for Maf...never thought we'd get him. 2 weeks later Gerry went to the shelter to see if anyone adopted him. They were ready to euthanize Maf that day! No one called us. He was a wonderful pet for 20 years!

I love the tip about rubbing a stuffed animal on the litter mates! I will keep that in mind for when I get another puppy at some point!

@wmlgts Thanks! Our guide dog group leader gave us that tip right before we picked up our first guide dog puppy in training, Stetson.

Do you get to name the puppies from Guide Dogs of America? I raise for GDB, and the puppies names are already assigned.
